Using biopolymers as wall materials in spray drying poses challenges,particularly in attaining flowability and thermal stability among their physicochemical *** paper addresses these challenges by preparing microparticles using a blend of starch–chitosan and a poloxamer,commercially named Pluronic®*** aimed to elucidate the effects of varying poloxamer concentrations on the resulting particles through the spray drying *** with a poloxamer concentration of 3%(w/v)demonstrated a notably higher yield,especially when compared to those with 0%and 1%*** with 3%and 5%(w/v)poloxamer displayed a narrower particle size distribution,with the 3%blend showing a superior yield attributed to arrangements of blend components that improve flowability.X-ray diffraction analysis showcased the characteristic peaks of A-type starch form,with shifts suggesting enhanced interactions between *** with increased poloxamer content showed elevated thermal degradation temperatures,with the 3%blend registering a significant rise,opening avenues for encapsulating heat-sensitive *** study primarily focuses on the preparation and basic characterization of *** underscores the potential of blends with optimal poloxamer concentrations in microencapsulation,emphasizing further research to harness their capabilities thoroughly.

Fe-based materials have received more and more interests in recent years as candidates to fabricate bioresorbable stents due to their appropriate mechanical properties and ***,the low degradation rate of Fe is a serious limitation for such *** overcome this critical issue,many efforts have been devoted to accelerate the corrosion rate of Fe-based stents,through the structural and surface modification of Fe *** stents are implantable devices,the released corrosion products(Fe^(2+)ions)in vessels may alter the metabolism,by generating reactive oxygen species(ROS),which might in turn impact the biosafety of Fe-based *** considerations emphasize the importance of combining knowledge in both materials and biological science for the development of efficient and safe Fe-based stents,although there are still only limited numbers of reviews regarding this interdisciplinary *** review aims to provide a concise overview of the main strategies developed so far to design Fe-based stents with accelerated degradation,highlighting the fundamental mechanisms of corrosion and the methods to study them as well as the reported approaches to accelerate the corrosion *** approaches will be divided into four main sections,focusing on(i)increased active surface areas,(ii)tailored microstructures,(iii)creation of galvanic reactions(by alloying,ion implantation or surface coating of noble metals)and(iv)decreased local pH induced by degradable surface organic *** advances in the evaluation of the in vitro biocompatibility of the final materials and ongoing in vivo tests are also provided.

Streptococcus pyogenes(group A Streptococcus)is frequently involved in a wide range of human *** we evaluated polymorphonuclear neutrophils and mononuclear cells from healthy subjects for their bactericidal function after stimulation with live and inactivated Streptococcus pyogenes(Streptococcus Group A).Mononuclear cells and Neutrophils were isolated from heparinized blood samples(n=18)using a Ficoll-Hypaque gradient and cultured in RPMI 1640 for 18 hours with a suspension of either live or inactivated Streptococcus *** the respiratory burst(flow cytometry)and nitrite,TNF and IL17 production(ELISA)were measured in the cell culture *** increased respiratory burst(expressed as R index)was induced by both live and inactivated ***,increased nitrite,TNF and IL17 concentrations were found in cell culture supernatants in both *** findings may provide some explanation as to the roles played by neutrophils and mononuclear cells in Streptococcus pyogenes immunopathogenicity。

AIM： To study the presence of sustained low diffusing capacity （DLco） after liver transplantation （LT） in patients with hepatopulmonary syndrome （HPS）. METHODS： Six patients with mild-to-severe HPS and 24 without HPS who underwent LT were prospectively followed before and after LT at mid-term （median, 15 mo）. HPS patients were also assessed at Iong-tem （median, 86 mo）. RESULTS： Before LT, HPS patients showed lower PaO2 （71 ± 8 mmHg）, higher AaPO2 （43 ± 10 mmHg） and lower DLco （54% ± 9% predicted）, due to a combination of moderate-to-severe ventilation-perfusion （VA/Q） imbalance, mild shunt and diffusion limitation, than non- HPS patients （94 ± 4 mmHg and 19 ± 3 mmHg, and 85% ± 3% predicted, respectively）（P 〈 0.05 each）. Seven non-HPS patients had also reduced DLco （70% ± 4% predicted）. At mid- and long-term after LT, compared to pre- LT, HPS patients normalized PaO2 （91 ± 3 mmHg and 87 ± 5 mmHg）, AaPO2 （14 ± 3 mmHg and 23 ± 5 mmHg） and all VA/Q descriptors （P 〈 0.05 each） without changes in DLco （53% ± 8% and 56% ± 7% predicted, respectively）. Post-LT DLco in non-HPS patients with pre- LT low DLco was unchanged （75% ± 6% predicted）. CONCLUSION： While complete VA/Q resolution in HPS indicates a reversible functional disturbance, sustained low DLco after LT also present in some non-HPS patients, points to persistence of sub-clinical liver-induced pulmonary vascular changes.
