Mechanisms of hepatocellular carcinoma progression

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the most common primary malignancy of the liver. It is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with a very poor prognosis. In the United States, there has been only minimal improvement in the prognosis for HCC patients over the past 15 years. Details of the molecular mechanisms and other mechanisms of HCC progression remain unclear. Consequently, there is an urgent need for better understanding of these mechanisms. HCC is often diagnosed at advanced stages, and most patients will therefore need systemic therapy, with sorafenib being the most common at the present time. However, sorafenib therapy only minimally enhances patient survival. This review provides a summary of some of the known mechanisms that either cause HCC or contribute to its progression. Included in this review are the roles of viral hepatitis, non-viral hepatitis, chronic alcohol intake, genetic predisposition and congenital abnormalities, toxic exposures, and autoimmune diseases of the liver. Well-established molecular mechanisms of HCC progression such as epithelial-mesenchymal transition, tumor-stromal interactions and the tumor microenvironment, cancer stem cells, and senescence bypass are also discussed. Additionally, we discuss the roles of circulating tumor cells,immunomodulation, and neural regulation as potential new mechanisms of HCC progression. A better understanding of these mechanisms could have implications for the development of novel and more effective therapeutic and prognostic strategies, which are critically needed.

目的了解江苏省南京市妇女乳腺癌筛查知信行现状并分析其影响因素,为制定合理有效的乳腺癌筛查干预模式提供依据。方法采取随机整群抽样方法抽取南京市418名≥40岁社区妇女为调查对象,采用乳腺癌筛查知信行问卷进行调查。结果调查对象乳腺癌筛查知识总知晓率为32.8%,主要影响因素有文化程度和职业(P<0.05);乳腺钼钯筛查信念得分为(31.94±4.17)分,在不同社会人口学特征对象间差异无统计学意义;曾经做过乳腺自我检查和乳腺临床检查的妇女分别占57.1%和82.3%,其中在最近1年内做过的分别占47.0%和45.7%,年龄和职业是影响自我检查行为的因素(P<0.05);有12.2%的女性曾经接受过乳腺钼钯检查,文化程度是实施乳腺钼钯检查的影响因素(P<0.01)。结论南京市社区妇女乳腺癌筛查知识较为缺乏,筛查率有待提高,年龄、职业、文化程度是筛查行为的影响因素。

Background:Conserving migratory birds is challenging due to their reliance on multiple distant sites at different stages of their annual life *** concept of“flyway”,which refers to all areas covered by the breeding,nonbreeding,and migrating of birds,provides a framework for international cooperation for *** the same flyway,however,the migratory activities of the same species can differ substantially between seasons and *** the seasonal and population differences in migration is helpful for understanding migration ecology and for identifying conservation ***:Using satellite‑tracking we tracked the migration of Whimbrels(Numenius phaeopus variegatus)from nonbreeding sites at Moreton Bay(MB)and Roebuck Bay(RB)in Australia in the East Asian-Australasian *** tests were used to analyze the strength of migration connectivity between the nonbreeding and breeding sites of MB and RB ***’s t test was used to compare the migration activities between the two populations and between northward and southward ***:During northward migration,migration distance and duration were longer for the MB population than for the RB *** distance and duration of the first leg flight during northward migration were longer for the MB population than for the RB population,suggesting that MB individuals deposited more fuel before departing from nonbreeding sites to support their longer nonstop *** RB population exhibited weaker migration connectivity(breeding sites dispersing over a range of 60 longitudes)than the MB population(breeding sites concentrating in a range of 5 longitudes in Far Eastern Russia).Compared with MB population,RB population was more dependent on the stopover sites in the Yellow Sea and the coastal regions in China,where tidal habitat has suffered dramatic ***,RB population increased while MB population decreased over the past decades,suggesting that loss of tidal habit

Effective osteogenesis remains a challenge in the treatment of bone *** emergence of artificial bone scaffolds provides an attractive *** this work,a new biomineralization strategy is proposed to facilitate osteogenesis through sustaining supply of nutrients including phosphorus(P),calcium(Ca),and silicon(Si).We developed black phosphorus(BP)-based,three-dimensional nanocomposite fibrous scaffolds via microfluidic technology to provide a wealth of essential ions for bone defect *** fibrous scaffolds were fabricated from 3D poly(L-lactic acid)(PLLA)nanofibers(3D NFs),BP nanosheets,and hydroxyapatite(HA)-porous SiO2 *** 3D BP@HA NFs possess three advantages:i)stably connected pores allow the easy entrance of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)into the interior of the 3D fibrous scaffolds for bone repair and osteogenesis;ii)plentiful nutrients in the NFs strongly improve osteogenic differentiation in the bone repair area;iii)the photothermal effect of fibrous scaffolds promotes the release of elements necessary for bone formation,thus achieving accelerated *** in vitro and in vivo results demonstrated that the 3D BP@HA NFs,with the assistance of NIR laser,exhibited good performance in promoting bone ***,microfluidic technology makes it possible to obtain high-quality 3D BP@HA NFs with low costs,rapid processing,high throughput and mass production,greatly improving the prospects for clinical *** is also the first BP-based bone scaffold platform that can self-supply Ca^(2+),which may be the blessedness for older patients with bone defects or patients with damaged bones as a result of calcium loss.

Determining the migration routes and connections of migratory birds at the population level helps clarify intraspecific differences in *** subspecies have been recognized in the Whimbrel(Numenius phaeopus)in *** is the most recently described *** breeds in Central Siberia,while its non-breeding region and migration routes are still *** tracked the migration of Eurasian Whimbrels captured at three non-breeding sites(Moreton Bay in east coast of Australia,Roebuck Bay in Northwest Australia and Sungei Buloh Wetland in Singapore)and two migration stopover sites(Chongming Dongtan and mai Po Wetland in China).We determined the breeding sites and inferred the subspecies of the tagged birds in the East Asian–Australasian Flyway(EAAF)based on the known breeding distribution of each *** the 30 tagged birds,6 and 21 birds bred in the breeding range of *** and variegatus,respectively;one bred in the presumed transition area between the breeding range of *** and rogachevae,and two bred in the region between the breeding range of *** and *** birds that bred in the *** breeding range spent their non-breeding season in the northern Sumatra,Singapore,East Java and Northwest Australia and mainly stopped over along China's coasts during *** of our birds bred in the exclusive breeding range of the phaeopus *** studies have predicted that rogachevae whimbrels migrate along the Central Asian Flyway and spend the non-breeding season in West India and East *** found that at least some rogachevae whimbrels migrate along the EAAF and spend the non-breeding season in Southeast Asia and *** *** is at best sparsely distributed in the EAAF in the west region,or possibly does not occur at all.

many migratory birds exhibit interannual consistency in migration schedules,routes and stopover *** the interannual consistency in spatiotemporal characteristics helps understand the maintenance of migration and enables the implementation of targeted conservation *** tracked the migration of Whimbrel(Numenius phaeopus)in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and collected spatiotemporal data from individuals that were tracked for at least two *** non-parametric tests were used to compare the interannual variations in the dates of departure from and arrival at breeding/nonbreeding sites,and the inter-annual variation in the longitudes when the same individual across the same *** exhibited a high degree of consistency in the use of breeding,nonbreeding,and stopover sites between *** variation of arrival dates at nonbreeding sites was significantly larger than that of the departure dates from nonbreeding and breeding *** used stopover sites by the same individuals in multiple years were concentrated in the Yellow Sea coast during northward migration,but were more widespread during southward *** stopover duration at repeatedly used sites was significantly longer than that at sites used only *** flying across the Yellow Sea,Whimbrels breeding in Sakha(Yakutia)exhibited the highest consistency in migration routes in both autumn and ***,the consistency in migration routes of Yakutia breeding birds was generally higher than that of birds breeding in *** results suggest that the northward migration schedule of the Whimbrels is mainly controlled by endogenous factors,while the southward migration schedule is less affected by endogenous *** repeated use of stopover sites in the Yellow Sea coast suggests this region is important for the migration of Whimbrel,and thus has high conservation value.

Dispersion of Titanium（Ⅳ） Oxide Nanoparticles in Mixed matrix Membrane Using Octaisobutyl Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane for Enhanced CO2/CH4 Separation Performance

Titanium(IV) oxide (TiO2) nanoparticles have been incorporated into mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) to improve gas separation performance. However, TiO2 nanoparticles tend to agglomerate due to high surface energy and van der Waals forces. This leads to precipitation which causes the formation of non-homogeneous MMM morphology. In this study, the effect of octaisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) addition on TiO2/polysulfone MMM was investigated. The aims are to enhance gas separation performance whilst preventing agglomeration of TiO2 nanoparticles. The results demonstrated that inclusion of POSS as dispersant increases MMMs’ CO2/CH4 selectivity and permeance, possibly due to less void formation and more evenly distributed pore structure. For example, synergistic addition of 5 wt% TiO2 and 5 wt% POSS increased the CO2/CH4 selectivity up to 390% compared to MMM without POSS. This is supported by elemental mapping of titanium which revealed that POSS successfully dispersed TiO2 nanoparticles and prevented aggregation. TiO2-POSS/PSf MMMs also retained their favorable thermal stability.

Acute myeloid leukemia(AML)is a heterogeneous clonal disorder of myeloid precursors arrested in their matura-tion,creating a diverse disease entity with a wide range of responses to historically standard treatment *** signifi cant progress has been made in character-izing and individualizing the disease at diagnosis to op-timally inform those affected,progress in treatment to reduce relapse and induce remission has been limited thus *** addition to a brief summary of the factors that shape prognostication at diagnosis,this review attempts to expand on the current therapies under investigation that have shown promise in treating AML,including hy-pomethylating agents,gemtuzumab ozogamicin,FLT3 ty-rosine kinase inhibitors,antisense oligonucleotides,and other novel therapies,including aurora kinases,mTOR and PI3 kinase inhibitors,PIM kinase inhibitors,HDAC inhibitors,and IDH targeted *** these,and undoubtedly many others in the future,it is the hope that by combining more accurate prognostication with more effective therapies,patients will begin to have a different,and more complete,outlook on their disease that allows for safer and more successful treatment strategies.

A novel Cooperative Directional inter-cell Handover Scheme(CDHS) for High Altitude Platform(HAP) communications systems is proposed,in which the handover target cell and the two cells adjacent to this handover target cell work cooperatively to exploit the traffic fluctuation to improve handover *** in the overlap area of the overloaded handover target cell will be forced to handover directionally before their optimal handover boundary in order to free up resources for the handover calls which would otherwise be dropped due to the shortage of resources and queue time *** results show that the handover call dropping probability is greatly reduced(at least 60%) compared with the general queue handover scheme,with little performance reduction to the call blocking probability,and the Not in the Best Cell(NBC) average time is only increased ***,an optimal cell radius can be achieved for a specific platform speed by minimizing the unified system performance,which is the linear combination of the handover call dropping probability and the NBC average time.
