Intra-arterial therapy and infarct volumes

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The Endovascular Treatment for Small Core and Anterior Circulation Proximal Occlusion with Emphasis on minimizing CT to Recanalization Times (ESCAPE) is a multicenter, randomized, controlled trial assessing endovascular treatment as compared with guideline based standard of care. Using data from that study, the authors sought to determine the efficacy of endovascular therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke and proximal anterior circulation *** Subjects presenting within 12 hours of stroke onset with pre-specified neurovascular imaging criteria were studied. All underwent follow-up imaging at 24 and 48 hours from stroke symptom onset. The data were reviewed for differences in stroke volume between treatment groups (endovascular and standard of care) and between subjects who did and who did not achieve early *** The median post-treatment infarct volume in all subjects was 21 mL, with the median infarct volume in the endovascular group of 15.5 mL and that in the control of 33.5 mL (Pam Early CT score [ASPECTS], and recanalization status were independently associated with posttreatment infarct volume (Pmparisons).CONCLUSION This study, using data from the ESCAPE trial showed that endovascular treatment among subjects with acute ischemic stroke and proximal anterior circulation occlusion is associated with smaller infarct volumes.

Repetitive Sequences in Plant Nuclear DNA:Types, Distribution, Evolution and Function

Repetitive DNA sequences are a major component of eukaryotic genomes and may account for up to 90% of the genome size. They can be divided into minisatellite, microsatellite and satellite sequences. Satellite DNA sequences are considered to be a liist-evolving component of eukaryotic genomes, comprising tandemly-arrayed, highly-repetitive and highly-conserved monomer sequences. The monomer unit of satellite DNA is 150m00 base pairs （bp） in length. Repetitive sequences may be species- or genus-specific, and may be centromeric or subtelomeric in nature. They exhibit cohesive and concerted evolution caused by molecular drive, leading to high sequence homogeneity. Repetitive sequences accumulate variations in sequence and copy number during evolution, hence they are important tools for taxonomic and phylogenetic studies, and are known as ＂tuning knobs＂ in the evolution. Therefore, knowledge of repetitive sequences assists our understanding of the organization, evolution and behavior of eukaryotic genomes. Repetitive sequences have cytoplasmic, cellular and developmental effects and play a role in chromosomal recombination. In the post-genomics era, with the introduction of next-generation sequencing tech- nology, it is possible to evaluate complex genomes for analyzing repetitive sequences and decipher- ing the yet unknown functional potential of repetitive sequences.

Extreme ultraviolet and x-ray transition wavelengths in Rb XXIV

Energy levels, radiative rates, oscillator strengths and line strengths are reported for transitions among the lowest 97 levels of the（1s22s22p6） 3s23p2, 3s23p3 d, 3s3p3, 3p4, 3s3p23 d, and 3s23d2 configurations of Rb XXIV. A multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock（mCDF） method is adopted for the calculations. Radiative rates, oscillator strengths, and line strengths are provided for all electric dipole（E1）, magnetic dipole（m1）, electric quadrupole（E2）, and magnetic quadrupole（m2）transitions from the ground level to all 97 levels, although calculations are performed for a much larger number of *** achieve the accuracy of the data, comparisons are provided with similar data obtained from the Flexible Atomic Code（FAC） and also with the available theoretical and experimental results. Our energy levels are found to be accurate to better than 1.2%. Wavelengths calculated are found to lie in EUV（extreme ultraviolet） and x-ray regions. Additionally, lifetimes for all 97 levels are obtained for the first time.

Emergence of non-albicans Candida species and antifungal resistance in intensive care unit patients

Objective: To evaluate the epidemiology of candidiasis and the antifungal susceptibility profile of Candida species isolated from the intensive care unit(ICU) ***: The study used a qualitative descriptive design. Relevant samples depending on organ system involvement from 100 ICU patients were collected and *** and speciation of the isolates was conducted by the biochemical *** susceptibility testing was carried out as per CLSI-m27-A3 ***: Ninety Candida isolates were isolated from the different clinical samples: urine(43.3%), tracheal aspirate(31.1%), urinary catheter(12.2%), endotracheal tube(7.8%),abdominal drains(3.3%), sputum(2.2%). The incidence of candidiasis caused by nonalbicans Candida(NAC) species(63.3%) was higher than Candida albicans(36.7%).The various NAC species were isolated as: Candida tropicalis(41.1%), Candida glabrata(10%), Candida parapsilosis(6.7%), Candida krusei(3.3%) and Candida kefyr(2.2%). The overall isolation rate of Candida species from samples was 53.3%. Antifungal susceptibility indicated that 37.8% and 7.8% of the Candida isolates were resistant to fluconazole and amphotericin B, ***: Predominance of NAC species in ICU patients along with the increasing resistance being recorded to fluconazole which has a major bearing on the morbidity and management of these patients and needs to be further worked upon.

CCR5A32 mutation does not influence the susceptibility to HCV infection, severity of liver disease and response to therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C

AIm： To study whether CCR5△32 mutation was associated with viral infection and severity of liver disease. mETHODS： Two hundred and fifty two histologically proven, chronic HCV patients （mean age： 41±14 years; m/F： 164/88） were genotyped. PCR based genotyping of 32 bp deletion at the CCR5 locus was done. Fourhundred and eight matched healthy controls were studied to assess susceptibility to HCV infection. To assess correlation of immune gene polymorphism with severity of HCV related liver disease, patients with chronic HCV infection were divided into those with a fibrosis score of ≤ 2 （mild） or 〉 2 （severe） and histological activity index （HAI） of ≤ 5 or 〉 5. For correlation between CCR5△32 mutations and response to therapy, 129 patients who completed therapy were evaluated. RESULTS： The majority （89.4%） of the patients were infected with genotype 3. The frequency of homozygous CCR5△32 mutants was comparable to HCV patients as compared to the healthy controls （0.7% vs 0%, P = 0.1）. Further more, the frequency of CCR5△32 mutation was comparable in patients with mild or severe liver disease.（P = NS）. There was also no association observed with response to therapy and CCR5△32 mutation. CONCLUSION： CCR5△32 mutation does not have a role in disease susceptibility, severity or response to therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection.

Cardiometabolic risk factors in young Indian men and their association with parameters of insulin resistance and beta-cell function

BACKGROUND There is an unmet need to evaluate the burden of cardiometabolic risk factors in young South Asian adults,who are not preselected for *** To evaluate young North Indian men(aged 20-50 years)for burden of cardiometabolic risk factors,in relation to parameters of homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance(HOmA-IR)and beta-cell function(oral disposition index[oDI]).mETHODS Study participants were invited in a fasting ***,anthropometric,and medical data were collected,and 75 g oral glucose tolerance test was performed with serum insulin and plasma glucose estimation at 0,30,and 120 *** were divided into quartiles for HOmA-IR and oDI(category 1:Best HOmA-IR/oDI quartile;category 3:Worst HOmA-IR/oDI quartile)and composite HOmA-IR/oDI phenotypes(phenotype 1:Best quartile for both HOmA-IR and oDI;phenotype 4:Worst quartile for both HOmA-IR and oDI)were *** We evaluated a total of 635 men at a mean(±SD)age of 33.9±5.1 years and body mass index of 26.0±3.9 kg/m^(2).Diabetes and prediabetes were present in 34(5.4%)and 297(46.8%)participants,***/obesity,metabolic syndrome,and hypertension were present in 388(61.1%),258(40.6%),and 123(19.4%)participants,*** prevalence of dysglycaemia,metabolic syndrome,and hypertension was significantly higher in participants belonging to the worst HOmA-IR and oDI quartiles,either alone(category 3 vs 1)or in combination(phenotype 4 vs 1).The adjusted odds ratios for dysglycaemia(6.5 to 7.0-fold),hypertension(2.9 to 3.6-fold),and metabolic syndrome(4.0 to 12.2-fold)were significantly higher in individuals in the worst quartile of HOmA-IR and oDI(category 3),compared to those in the best quartile(category 1).The adjusted odds ratios further increased to 21.1,5.6,and 13.7,respectively,in individuals with the worst,compared to the best composite HOmA-IR/oDI phenotypes(phenotype 4 vs 1).CONCLUSION The burden of cardiometabolic risk factors is hi
