Lateral ankle instability is one of the most common and well-recognized conditions presenting to foot and ankle *** may exist as an isolated entity or in conjunction with other concomitant pathology,making it important to appropriately diagnose and identify other conditions that may need to be addressed as part of *** associated conditions may be a source of chronic pain,even when the instability has been appropriately treated,or may lead to failure of treatment by predisposing the patient to ankle inversion *** primary goal of this editorial is to provide a brief summary of the common techniques used in the delayed reconstruction of lateral ankle ligamentous injuries and present a method we have successfully employed for over 15 *** will also briefly discuss the diagnosis and treatment of the more common associated conditions,which are important to identify to achieve satisfactory results for the *** present the outcomes of 250 consecutive reconstructions performed over the last 10 years and describe our operative technique for addressing lateral ankle ligamentous injuries.

Due to the high cost of adsorbents and their thermal regeneration in recent years, much research has fo- cused on the search for cheaper adsorbents for treating wastewater from textile industry. The single component ad-sorption of an acidic dye, Acid Yellow 117, and a basic dye, Methylene Blue, onto several adsoroents-bamooo, waste wood, bamboo char, waste wood char, bamboo activated carbon, wood activated carbon and active carbon F400 were conducted. Based on a Langmuir analysis, the monolayer adsorption capacities were determined. Three of the adsorbents were selected for binary layer adsorption to check the multilayer concept and the potential application for better adsorbent usage. The two cheapest adsorbents, bamboo and wood are compared with the commer-cial activated carbon F400, and all three systems were successful.

In this paper, we demonstrate six types of metamaterial absorbers （MMAs） by measuring their absorptivities in an X-band （8 12 GHz） rectangular waveguide. Some of the MMAs have been demonstrated previously by using the free space measurement method, and the others are proposed firstly in this paper. The measured results show that all of the six MMAs exhibit high absorptivities above 98%, which have similar absorbing characteristics to those measured in the free space. The numerically obtained surface current densities for each MMA show that the absorbing mechanism is the same as that under the free space conditions. Such a demonstration method is superior to the conventional free space measurement method due to the small-scale test samples required, the simple measure device, and its low cost. Most importantly, the proposed method opens a way to enable MMAs to be used in microwave applications such as matched terminations.

Cyber security breaches inflict costs to consumers and businesses. The possibility also exists that a cyber security breach may shut down an entire critical infrastructure industry, putting a nation’s whole economy and national defense at risk. Hence, the issue of cyber security investment has risen to the top of the agenda of business and government executives. This paper examines how the existence of well-recognized externalities changes the maximum a firm should, from a social welfare perspective, invest in cyber security activities. By extending the cyber security investment model of gordon and Loeb [1] to incorporate externalities, we show that the firm’s social optimal investment in cyber security increases by no more than 37% of the expected externality loss.

Review of the optimal timing and technique for extensor tendon reconstruction in composite dorsal hand wounds

Aim: The management of complex dorsal hand wounds with extensor tendon loss is controversial. Treatment has focused on soft tissue coverage, but there is limited evidence comparing immediate vs. staged tendon reconstruction. This review evaluates existing literature to determine the optimal management of composite hand defects. Methods: A MEDLINE database review was performed including objective measurements such as number of operations, total active motion, grip strength, days to maximum range of motion (ROM), and return to work. Data extraction included demographics, surgical techniques, complications, and relative outcome. We compared primary and secondary staged reconstruction to correlate any significant differences in outcome and determine optimal timing and technique for extensor tendon reconstruction. We extracted information on flap types including regional and free tissue transfer with tendinous components vs. staged tendon grafts. Results: Comparison of outcomes showed that patients with immediate reconstruction had fewer operations, faster return to maximum ROM, and greater chance of returning to work. The most successful single stage flaps include the radial forearm, suitable for reconstructing one to three tendons and the dorsalis pedis for three or four tendons;however, there were significantly more complications in immediate reconstruction particularly regarding donor site morbidity. Pedicled flaps had better total active motion. The two-stage approach resulted in acceptable functional outcomes without significant complications. ;Conclusion: Immediate cutaneous tendinous flaps have clear advantages over staged approaches for reconstruction ofcomposite dorsal hand wounds. Benefits include less operations, faster time to maximum ROM, and higher percent of patients returning to work;however, significantly more flap related complications were seen.
