An invasive population of Burmese pythons(Python molurus bivittatus)is established across several thousand square kilometers of southern Florida and appears to have caused precipitous population declines among several species of native *** has this giant snake had such great success as an invasive species when many established reptiles have failed to spread?We scored the Burmese python for each of 15 literature-based attributes relative to predefined comparison groups from a diverse range of taxa and provide a review of the natural history and ecology of Burmese pythons relevant to each *** focused on attributes linked to spread and magnitude of impacts rather than establishment *** results suggest that attributes related to body size and generalism appeared to be particularly applicable to the Burmese python’s success in *** attributes with the highest scores were:high reproductive potential,low vulnerability to predation,large adult body size,large offspring size and high dietary ***,attributes of ectotherms in general and pythons in particular(including predatory mode,energetic efficiency and social interactions)might have also contributed to invasion *** establishment risk assessments are an important initial step in prevention of new establishments,evaluating species in terms of their potential for spreading widely and negatively impacting ecosystems might become part of the means by which resource managers prioritize control efforts in environments with large numbers of introduced species.

Background and purpose We evaluate whether non-haemorrhagic imaging markers(NHIM)(white matter hyperintensity patterns,lacunes and enlarged perivascular spaces(EPVS))can discriminate cerebral amyloid angiopathy(CAA)from hypertensive cerebral small vessel disease(HTN-cSVD)among patients with isolated lobar intracerebral haemorrhage(isolated-LICH).Methods In patients with isolated-LICH,four cSVD aetiologic groups were created by incorporating the presence/distribution of NHIM:HTN-cSVD pattern,CAA pattern,mixed NHIM and no *** pattern consisted of patients with any combination of severe centrum semiovale EPVS,lobar lacunes or multiple subcortical spots ***-cSVD pattern consisted of any HTN-cSVD markers:severe basal ganglia PVS,deep lacunes or peribasal ganglia white matter hyperintensity *** NHIM consisted of at least one imaging marker from either *** hypothesis was that patients with HTN-cSVD pattern/mixed NHIM would have a higher frequency of left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH),which is associated with *** In 261 patients with isolated-LICH,CAA pattern was diagnosed in 93 patients,HTN-cSVD pattern in 53 patients,mixed NHIM in 19 patients and no NHIM in 96 *** frequency of LVH was similar among those with HTN-cSVD pattern and mixed NHIM(50%vs 39%,p=0.418)but was more frequent in HTN-cSVD pattern compared with CAA pattern(50%vs 20%,p<0.001).In a regression model,HTN-cSVD pattern(OR:7.38;95%CI 2.84 to 19.20)and mixed NHIM(OR:4.45;95%CI 1.25 to 15.90)were found to be independently associated with *** Among patients with isolated-LICH,NHIM may help differentiate HTN-cSVD from CAA,using LVH as a marker for HTN-cSVD.

Asymmetric variability between maximum and minimum temperatures in Northeastern Tibetan Plateau:Evidence from tree rings

Mn Fe As crystallizes in two phases under different synthetic conditions:(i)the tetragonal Cu2Sb-type structure(isostructural to superconductors Li Fe As and Na Fe As)at normal conditions;or(ii)the hexagonal Fe2P-type structure at high pressure and *** both phases,Mn atom is square pyramidally coordinated by As atoms,while Fe atoms occupy half of the tetrahedron holes formed by As *** tetragonal phase is antiferromagnetic(AFM)(TN63 K)with a doubled crystallographic c-axis,whereas the hexagonal phase is ferromagnetic(FM)with TC near 190 *** exchange parameters obtained from SPRKKR calculations indicate that both direct and indirect exchange couplings play essential roles in understanding the magnetic orderings observed in both tetragonal and hexagonal *** nature of nearest-neighbor direct exchange couplings,i.e.,either FM or AFM,were predicted by analyzing the nature of metal-metal orbital interactions,i.e.,bonding,non-bonding,or antibonding,near the Fermi *** indirect exchange couplings were rationalized by both RKKY and superexchange *** addition,the structure change under pressure was studied by examining total energy variation as volume.

Ecological systems in the headwaters of the Yellow River, characterized by hash natural environmental conditions, are very vulnerable to climatic change. In the most recent decades, this area greatly attracted the public's attention for its more and more deteriorating environmental conditions. Based on tree-ring samples from the Xiqing Mountain and A'nyêmagên Mountains at the headwaters of the Yellow River in the Northeastern Tibetan Plateau, we reconstructed the minimum temperatures in the winter half year over the last 425 years and the maximum temperatures in the summer half year over the past 700 years in this region. The variation of minimum temperature in the winter half year during the time span of 1578―1940 was a relatively stable trend, which was followed by an abrupt warming trend since 1941. However, there is no significant warming trend for the maximum temperature in the summer half year over the 20th century. The asymmetric variation patterns between the minimum and maximum temperatures were observed in this study over the past 425 years. During the past 425 years, there are similar variation patterns between the minimum and maximum temperatures; however, the minimum temperatures vary about 25 years earlier compared to the maximum temperatures. If such a trend of variation patterns between the minimum and maximum temperatures over the past 425 years continues in the future 30 years, the maximum temperature in this region will increase significantly.

The fall armyworm(FAW),Spodoptera frugiperda,is a maj.r pest native to the Americas that has recently invaded the Old *** mutations in the target-site proteins acetylcholinesterase-1(ace-1),voltage-gated sodium channel(VGSC)and ryanodine receptor(RyR)have been identified in *** as maj.r resistance mechanisms to organophosphate,pyrethroid and diamide insecticides *** in the adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette transporter C2 gene(ABCC2)have also been identified to confer resistance to Cry IF *** this study,we applied a whole-genome sequencing(WGS)approach to identify point mutations in the target-site genes in 150 FAW individuals collected from China,Malawi,Uganda and *** approach revealed three amino acid substitutions(A201S,G227A and F290V)of *** ace-1,which are known to be associated with organophosphate *** Brazilian population had all three ace-1 point mutations and the 227A allele(mean frequency=0.54)was the most *** from China,Malawi and Uganda harbored two of the three ace-1 point mutations(A201S and F290V)with the 290V allele(0.47-0.58)as the dominant *** mutations in VGSC(T929I,L932F and L1014F)and RyR(I4790M and G4946E)were not detected in any of the 150 individuals.A novel 12-bp insertion mutation in exon 15 of the ABCC2 gene was identified in some of the Brazilian individuals but absent in the invasive *** results not only demonstrate robustness of the WGS-based genomic approach for detection of resistance mutations,but also provide insights for improvement of resistance management tactics in ***.

The dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans is one of the most important and abundant red tide organisms and it is distributed world-wide. It occurs in two forms. Red Noctiluca is heterotrophic and fills the role of one of the microzooplankton grazers in the foodweb. In contrast, green Noctiluca contains a photosynthetic symbiont Pedinomonas noctilucae （a prasinophyte）, but it also feeds on other plankton when the food supply is abundant. In this review, we document the global distribution of these two forms and include the first maps of their global distribution. Red Noctiluca occurs widely in the temperate to sub-tropical coastal regions of the world. It occurs over a wide temperature range of about 10℃ to 25℃ and at higher salinities （generally not in estuaries）. It is particularly abundant in high productivity areas such as upwelling or eutrophic areas where diatoms dominate since they are its preferred food source. Green Noctiluca is much more restricted to a temperature range of 25℃-30℃ and mainly occurs in tropical waters of Southeast Asia, Bay of Bengal （east coast of India）, in the eastern, western and northern Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, and recently it has become very abundant in the Gulf of Oman. Red and green Noctiluca do overlap in their distribution in the eastern, northern and western Arabian Sea with a seasonal shift from green Noctiluca in the cooler winter convective mixing, higher productivity season, to red Noctiluca in the more oligotrophic warmer summer season.
