An Evolutionary Approach to Improve the Beam Steering Performance over Conventional Approach in CHAA

In this work,evolutionary algorithms are applied for the first time to achieve better radiation characteristics over the conventional beamforming algorithm in the concentric hexagonal antenna array(CHAA),which improves the performance of wireless communication.Multiple signal classification(MUSIC)algorithm is employed for direction of arrival(DoA)estimation.The conventional adaptive beam steering algorithm,least mean-square(LMS)algorithm,is used to steer the beam.Further,the proposed approach is employed by novel particle swarm optimization(NPSO)to reduce sidelobe level(SLL)even further.A six-ring CHAA with 126 elements for DoA estimation and beam steering is simulated.The simulation results of the MUSIC,LMS,NPSO,and particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithms are provided for various DoAs.

本研究进行了微带贴片天线线性阵列的优化设计。通过猫群算法(Cat swarm optimization,CSO)优化天线阵列辐射方向图的各控制参数。通过优化每个单元的激励电流权重和阵元间隙获得各向同性天线单元阵列的最佳辐射方向图。以12、16和20单元的天线阵列为例,运用MATLAB进行阵列优化设计,采用CST-MWS对设计结果进行仿真验证。由仿真结果可见,CSO能给出微带贴片天线线性阵列的最优设计。

Adaptive Cell Segmentation and Tracking for Volumetric Confocal Microscopy Images of a Developing Plant Meristem

Automated segmentation and tracking of cells in actively developing tissues can provide high-throughput and quantitative spatiotemporal measurements of a range of cell behaviors; cell expansion and cell-division kinetics leading to a better understanding of the underlying dynamics of morphogenesis. Here, we have studied the problem of constructing cell lineages in time-lapse volumetric image stacks obtained using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy （CLSM）. The novel contribution of the work lies in its ability to segment and track cells in densely packed tissue, the shoot apical meristem （SAM）, through the use of a close-loop, adaptive segmentation, and tracking approach. The tracking output acts as an indicator of the quality of segmentation and, in turn, the segmentation can be improved to obtain better tracking results. We construct an optimization function that minimizes the segmentation error, which is, in turn, estimated from the tracking results. This adaptive approach significantly improves both tracking and segmentation when compared to an open loop framework in which segmentation and tracking modules operate separately.

Another simple regimen for perioperative management of diabetes mellitus

Persons with diabetes who require surgical procedures are increasing day by day.Many of the regimens available to manage patients with diabetes perioperatively are complex.Hence,the junior doctors and the paramedics(Primary care providers on a 24/7 basis)find it difficult to execute them.We need a simple regimen that can be executed in a primary care setting/general floor as it is becoming difficult to accommodate the patients in a sophisticated setting because of the increasing burden of the disease.We suggest a simple regimen in this article(ram’s regimen)which we believe safer,economical and more effective than few simple regimens available to date.Moreover,this regimen does not require any additional equipment such as syringe pumps,measured-volume set,etc.Hence,this regimen can be implemented in a primary care setting/general floor easily and we hope that it will be useful for doctors of various specialties and their patients.
