Protective effect of Ocimum sanctum Linn. leaf extract on ethanol withdrawal syndrome in Wistar rats

Objective: To evaluate the effects of Oscimum sanctum L(O. sanctum), an important medicinal herb, on alcohol withdrawal syndrome in Wistar rats. Methods: Liquid diet with 7.2%, v/v ethanol was administered to the rats for 21 d. Control group animals received sucrose as an isocaloric liquid diet. After alcohol withdrawal, rats were examined at 6 th and 24 th hour for major withdrawal signs that included anxiety and hyper locomotor activity. Ethanol withdrawal anxiety was tested using elevated plus maze, light and dark model; the hyper locomotor activity using actophotometer. O. sanctum leaf extract(100, 200 and 300 mg/kg, oral) and diazepam(2 mg/kg, i.p) were administered to the treatment group animals 30 min before alcohol withdrawal estimation. Drug treatment was also given 30 min before the second observation at 24 th hour. On the last day of the protocol, rats were sacrificed by cervical dislocation liver, kidney and brain were isolated and preserved in formalin for further histopathological examination. Results: Findings from the present study revealed that O. Sanctum leaf extract treatment at doses 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg, oral had a significant protective effect on signs and symptoms of ethanol withdrawal in alcohol-dependent rats. However, no remarkable pathological and microscopic alterations were observed in histopathological examination. Conclusions: O. sanctum seems to be an active drug for the treatment of alcohol abstinence syndrome.

The computer aided engineering analysis and design optimization of rotary tillage tool on the basis of finite element method and simulation method is done by using CAD-software for the structural *** different tillage tool parts of rotary tillage tools are geometrically constructed as a solid *** actual field performance rating parameters along with boundary conditions are set in the software for 35 hp and 45 hp *** estimated forces acting on soil-tool interface are fed into software as a loading *** resultant effects of loading condition on tillage blade and whole rotavator assembly were obtained from stress distribution and deformations *** proposed working results in identifying sufficient tolerance in changing the dimensions of rotavator frame sections and side gear box for removing the excess weight in a solid section and also to raise the weight of blade for a reliable *** present working model with tillage blade is analysed to new design constraints with change of its geometry for the maximum weed removal efficiency by presenting its practical results from the field performance.

A new three-dimensional nickel（Ⅱ） hydrogen-bonded molecular self assembly containing [（Ni（nicotinamide）2（thiocyanate）2（H2O）2] complex has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction,FTIR spectroscopy,thermal analysis and magnetic *** analysis reveals that the complex crystallizes in triclinic space group P1（crystal data a = 7.5574,b = 8.2683,c = 9.0056 A,α = 73.010,β = 69.698,γ = 66.51） and exhibits a distorted octahedral coordination *** interesting point in its structure is the involvement of sulphur atom of thiocyanate moiety in the trifurcated hydrogen bonding to build up the hydrogen-bonded self *** magnetic behavior as determined by squid magnetometer（2~300 K ***） reveals dominating antiferromagnetic interaction followed by spin canting behavior below 20 K.

Insulin signal is one of the vital signaling cascade required for Schwann cells to myelinate the axons of peripheral nervous system(PNS).Myelin formation of peripheral nerve is a complex molecular event controlled by different neurotrophic and transcription *** altered or failure in this signaling progression is one of the reasons behind the demyelination of peripheral neurons in diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN).The Schwann cell in PNS includes POU domain transcription factor OCT-6 *** factor is considered as crucial for the initiation and enhancement of myelination during nerve *** know the importance of OCT-6 gene,here we studied the long term expression of OCT-6 nuclear protein in sciatic nerve of normal and diabetic neuropathic *** for the first time we elucidated the role of insulin in controlling the expression of OCT-6 in hyperglycemic Schwann cells and sciatic nerve of diabetic neuropathic *** results shows that,there will be long term OCT-6 expression in sciatic nerve of adult rats and also their significant decrease is observed in the diabetic ***,addition of Insulin for primary Schwann cells and diabetic rats shows the increased OCT-6 expression in both in vivo and in *** these results indicate the failure of OCT-6 support in neuropathy and also the importance of insulin signaling cascade in the expression of OCT-6 transcription factor.

In this study,a total of 1125 actinobacteria were isolated from the selected mangrove species:Avicennia marina,Rhizopora mucronata and Ceriops tagal from three study stations viz.,Minnie Bay,Carbyn’s Cove and *** these three stations,the highest number of actinobacteria was recorded in Carbyn’s Cove(64.97%),followed by(25.51%)at Burmanallah and the minimum of(9.51%)was recorded in Minnie *** number of actinobacteria was recorded from Ceriops tagal(40.44%)than the other selected mangrove species Avicennia marina(34.13%)and Rhizopora mucronata(25.42%).Among the 1,125 mangrove-associated actinobacteria,103 morphologically different isolates from the Minnie Bay station was selected for the further characterization *** antibacterial assay,30.11%of the isolates revealed inhibitory activ-ity against all tested clinical pathogens and 65%isolates displayed inhibitory activity against minimum of 04 tested clinical *** survival studies of the actinobacterial isolates also accomplished to withstand in varied NaCl and pH *** 103 isolates,all were found to synthesize gelatinase enzyme,73 isolates demonstrated amylolytic activity,38 isolates exhibited proteolytic and 63 isolates displayed urease ***,56 isolates exhibited excellent DNase activity and 71 isolates revealed positive for l-asparaginase *** our recognition,11 isolates exhibited constructive results in the production of 06 extracellular enzymes of industrial *** 103 isolates,48 isolates were confirmed by molecular level *** on the phylogenetic analysis,the isolates were categorized under the genera:Strep-tomyces,Nocardiopsis,Salinispora and Actinomadura.

Ferroelectric Rashba semiconductors(FERSCs)have recently emerged as a promising class of spintronics *** peculiar coupling between spin and polar degrees of freedom responsible for several exceptional properties,including ferroelectric switching of Rashba spin texture,suggests that the electron’s spin could be controlled by using only electric *** this regard,recent experimental studies revealing charge-to-spin interconversion phenomena in two prototypical FERSCs,GeTe and SnTe,appear extremely ***,by employing density functional theory calculations,we investigate spin Hall effect(SHE)in these materials and show that it can be large either in ferroelectric or paraelectric *** further explore the compatibility between doping required for the practical realization of SHE in semiconductors and polar distortions which determine Rashba-related phenomena in FERSCs,but which could be suppressed by free charge carriers.

Gap acceptance theory is broadly used for evaluating unsignalized intersections in developed coun tries. Intersections with no specific priority to any move ment, known as uncontrolled intersections, are common in India. Limited priority is observed at a few intersections, where priorities are perceived by drivers based on geom etry, traffic volume, and speed on the approaches of intersection. Analyzing such intersections is complex because the overall traffic behavior is the result of drivers, vehicles, and traffic flow characteristics. Fuzzy theory has been widely used to analyze similar situations. This paper describes the application of adaptive neurofuzzy interface system （ANFIS） to the modeling of gap acceptance behavior of rightturning vehicles at limited priority Tintersections （in India, vehicles are driven on the left side of a road）. Field data are collected using video cameras at four Tintersections having limited priority. The data extracted include gap/lag, subject vehicle type, conflicting vehicle type, and driver＇s decision （accepted/rejected）. ANFIS models are developed by using 80 % of the extracted data （total data observations for major road right turning vehicles are 722 and 1,066 for minor road right turning vehicles） and remaining are used for model vali dation. Four different combinations of input variables are considered for major and minor road right turnings sepa rately. Correct prediction by ANFIS models ranges from 75.17 % to 82.16 % for major road right turning and 87.20 % to 88.62 % for minor road right turning. Themodels developed in this paper can be used in the dynamic estimation of gap acceptance in traffic simulation models.

Response of colloidal liquids containing magnetic holes of different volume densities to magnetic field characterized by transmission measurement

This paper systematically investigates the response of colloidal liquids containing magnetic holes of different volume densities to magnetic field by conventional transmission measurements. It finds that the enhancement in the transmission of such a colloidal liquid under a magnetic field exhibits a strong dependence on the volume density of magnetic holes. A linear increase in the maximum enhancement factor is observed when the volume density of magnetic holes is below a critical level at which a maximum enhancement factor of ~150 is achieved in the near infrared region. Once the volume density of magnetic holes exceeds the critical level, a sharp drop of the maximum enhancement factor to ~2 is observed. After that, the maximum enhancement factor increases gradually till a large volume density of ~9%. By monitoring the arrangement of magnetic holes under a magnetic field, it reveals that the colloidal liquids can be classified into three different phases, i.e., the gas-like, liquid-like and solid-like phases, depending on the volume density of magnetic holes. The response behaviour of colloidal liquids to magnetic field is determined by the interaction between magnetic holes which is governed mainly by their volume density. A phase transition, which is manifested in the dramatic reduction in the maximum enhancement factor, is clearly observed between the liquid-like and solid-like phases. The optical switching operations for colloidal liquids in different phases are compared and the underlying physical mechanisms are discussed.
