Radiation-Induced Liposarcoma of the Groin in a Patient with Prior Vulvar Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review

Radiation-induced sarcomas (RIS) are rare but severe long-term complications of radiotherapy (RT). They typically arise years after exposure to ionizing radiation used to treat primary malignancies and complicate patient outcomes. Determining the risk associated with these radiation-induced cancers is challenging due to confounding factors such as lifestyle and genetic predisposition. Liposarcomas, which are the most common type of soft tissue sarcomas, originate from adipose tissue and can develop as a late complication of RT. Although they account for a significant portion of soft tissue sarcomas, radiation-induced liposarcomas are still considered rare, making them a noteworthy diagnostic and therapeutic concern. In this report, we present a rare case of radiation-induced dedifferentiated liposarcoma arising 12 years after RT for vulvar cancer. The patient presented with a mass in the groin, which was initially suspected to be a local recurrence. Imaging studies revealed a suspicious lesion on PET/CT, while MRI showed no significant findings. Histopathological evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of dedifferentiated liposarcoma. Surgical resection was performed with a focus on achieving negative margins. A literature review identified nine similar cases, with five being pleomorphic liposarcomas. The average time to presentation was 15 years (interval 3 - 47 years), with a mean radiation dose of 62 Gy. This case highlights the importance of long-term follow-up for cancer survivors and the need for vigilance in diagnosing secondary malignancies following RT.

＂Not a Club for Ethical Culture＂： The Early Writings of Max Weber, Liang Qichao, and Kang Youwei on the Stock Exchange

This paper examines early discussions of stock exchanges by Max Weber, Liang Qichao, and Kang Youwei and considers their contemporaneity. Despite different contexts, the discussions shared a nineteenth-century preoccupation with global competition and Darwinian struggles for survival. All reveal the attendant anxieties of latecomer nations experiencing belated modernity. Weber, however, wrote from a position that embraced German colonialism, whereas Liang and Kang＇s advocacy of stock exchanges was marked by concerns for the Chinese nation that emerged as a result of the experience of colonialism and economic imperialism.

Adaptive Walking Control of Biped Robots Using Online Trajectory Genera- tion Method Based on Neural Oscillators

This work concerns biped adaptive walking control on irregular terrains with online trajectory generation. A new trajectory generation method is proposed based on two neural networks. One oscillatory network is designed to generate foot trajectory, and another set of neural oscillators can generate the trajectory of Center of Mass （CoM） online. Using a motion engine, the characteristics of the workspace are mapped to the joint space. The entraining property of the neural oscillators is exploited for adaptive walking in the absence of a priori knowledge of walking conditions. Sensory feedback is applied to modify the gen- erated trajectories online to improve the walking quality. Furthermore, a staged evolutionary algorithm is developed to tune system parameters to improve walking performance. The developed control strategy is tested using a humanoid robot on ir- regular terrains. The experiments verify the success of the presented strategy. The biped robot can walk on irregular terrains with varying slopes, unknown bumps and stairs through autonomous adjustment of its walking patterns.

Temperature-induced plasticity at cellular and organismal levels in the lizard Anolis carolinensis

ARCHITECTONIC STUDIES WITH SELECTED REFLECTOR CONCENTRATING SOLAR COLLECTORS

INTRODUCTION Solar concentrating collectors with reflectors are a developing technology for thermal applications that can be useful to avoid fossil fuel greenhouse gas emissions,reduce demand for imported fuels and lessen biomass *** selected reflector concentrators for building integration studies are:fixed nonimaging compound parabolic concentrator(CPC)E-W line troughs,(building interior with evacuated tubes[ET]for the Temperate Zone,and exterior for the Tropics)with N-S involutes and adjustable end“wall”reflector options;and two-axis tracking small heliostats central receiver tower *** these reflector concentrating collector systems are integrated within building form,structure,and site planning,they are one of the main organizing design influences—an essential aspect of conceptual *** architectonic design studies are presented for mid temperature process heat applications beyond temperatures delivered with typical flat-plate thermal collectors(>≈80°C/176°F).Relations between:solar collector technologies,CPC optical characterization,daylighting,building structure,construction,site planning,and interior space usage are discussed for selected building *** include CPC solar community and institutional kitchens for the Tropics,and house-size verification facilities with building interior ET and reflectors for the Temperate Zone.

TRANSFORMATIVE RENEWAL AND URBAN SUSTAINABILITY

A key tenet of sustainable urban development is adaptive reuse, which is the practice of reusing existing infrastructure for a purpose other than for what it was built. Communities have much to gain from the adaptive reuse and transformative renewal of the older built fabric of the city. Retaining older buildings has environmental benefits as it bypasses complete demolition and reconstruction, and conserves the considerable embodied energy stored within the structure. Adaptive reuse is a key environmental factor in land conservation and the reduction of urban sprawl, as it promotes the reuse and revitalization of downtown and inner city sites. Existing buildings highlight the social character and identity of a community through the retention of the irreplaceable historic fabric. Existing buildings promote a strong and vibrant sense of place, leading to increased citizen engagement. Economic benefits can follow as the adaptive reuse and revitalization creates renewal, new uses, and captures the value of the existing building stock, creating a spur to the local economy. For these reasons, the adaptive reuse of existing and historic buildings is an essential component of sustainable urban development. This article will review a case study of the new downtown campus for the University of Windsor and the use of three existing historic buildings as a relevant adaptive reuse strategy toward inner city regeneration and revitalization. The overall strategy for urban sustainability will be reviewed, as well as specific issues and opportunities for each of the three projects.
