Plasma angiopoietin 2 as a novel prognostic biomarker in alcohol- related cirrhosis and hepatitis

Background and aim:Severe alcoholic hepatitis(SAH),the most florid form of alcohol-related liver dis-ease(ALD),has a mortality rate of 16%at 28 *** angiopoietin-Tie 2 system regulates angiogenesis and inflammation,both of which are implicated in the pathogenesis of *** study examined plasma and hepatic gene expression of angiopoietin 1(ANG1)and angiopoietin 2(ANG2)in patients with SAH and ALD and investigated their roles as prognostic ***:A case-control study was performed measuring plasma levels of ANG1 and ANG2 by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)from 30 patients with SAH(Maddrey's discriminant function32),32 patients with ALD cirrhosis and 15 healthy controls(HC).RNA sequencing for ANG1,ANG2,TIE1(codes for Tie1 receptor)and TEK(codes for Tie2 receptor)gene expression from a separate cohort study of 79 patients was also ***:Plasma levels of ANG1 were lower(P=0.010)and ANG2 were higher(P<0.0001)in patients with ALD/SAH compared to *** ANG2:ANG1 ratio was higher in those with ALD/SAH compared to HC(P<0.0001).ANG2 levels were the highest in patients who developed sepsis(P=0.030)and those dying within 90 days(P=0.020).ANG2 levels correlated positively with model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score(r=0.30,P=0.020),Child-Pugh score(r=0.38,P=0.003),international normalized ratio(r=0.41,P=0.001)and white blood cell count(r=0.28,P=0.040)and inversely correlated with albumin(r=0.26,P=0.040).ANG1 gene expression from liver biopsies was higher in SAH than that in HC(P<0.0001),and greater in severe disease(P<0.0001).ANG2 gene expression trended towards being lower in SAH than that in HC(P=0.070)though was upregulated in severe disease(P=0.0003).Conclusions:Plasma ANG2 is raised in SAH and ALD and could be useful as a prognostic biomarker in this patient population.

Effect of calcium lactate on compressive strength and self-healing of cracks in microbial concrete

This paper presents the effect on compressive strength and self-healing capability of bacterial concrete with the addition of calcium *** to normal concrete,bacterial concrete possesses higher durability and engineering concrete *** production of calcium carbonate in bacterial concrete is limited to the calcium content in *** calcium lactate is externally added to be an additional source of calcium in the *** influence of this addition on compressive strength,self-healing capability of cracks is highlighted in this *** bacterium used in the study is bacillus subtilis and was added to both spore powder form and culture form to the *** subtilis spore powder of 2 million cfu/g concentration with 0.5%cement was mixed to *** lactates with concentrations of 0.5%,1.0%,1.5%,2.0%,and 2.5%of cement,was added to the concrete mixes to test the effect on properties of *** other samples,cultured bacillus subtilis with a concentration of 1×10^cells/mL was mixed with concrete,to study the effect of bacteria in the cultured form on the properties of *** of 100 mm×100 mm×100 mm were used for the *** cubes were tested after a curing period of 7,14,and 28 d.A maximum of 12%increase in compressive strength was observed with the addition of 0.5%of calcium lactate in *** electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy examination showed the formation of ettringite in pores;calcium silicate hydrates and calcite which made the concrete denser.A statistical technique was applied to analyze the experimental data of the compressive strengths of cementations *** surface methodology was adopted for optimizing the experimental *** regression equation was yielded by the application of response surface methodology relating response variables to input *** method aids in predicting the experimental results accurately with an acceptable range

Processing and design methodologies for advanced and novel thermal barrier coatings for engineering applications

Thermal barrier coating is a crucial thermal insulation technology that enables the underlying substrate to operate near or above its melting temperature. Such coatings bolster engineers＇ perpetual desire to increase the power and efficiency of gas turbine engines through increasing the turbine inlet tempera- ture. Advances in recent years have made them suitable for wider engineering and defense applications, and hence they are currently attracting considerable attention. A thermal barrier coating system is itself dynamic; its components undergo recurrent changes in their composition, microstructure and crystalline phases during its service life. Nevertheless, the performance of multi-layered and multi-material sys- tems tailored for high temperature applications is closely linked to the deposition process. The process improvements achieved so far are the outcome of increased understanding of the relationship between the coating morphology and the operating service conditions, as well as developments in characterization techniques. This article presents a comprehensive review of various processing techniques and design methodologies for thermal barrier coatings. The emphasis of this review is on the particle technology; the interrelationship between particle preparation, modification and the resulting properties, to assist developments in advanced and novel thermal barrier coatings for engineering applications.

A CFD-DEM model is developed for chemical vapour deposition of silane in a fluidized bed reactor to investigate the effect of polydispersity on local phase dynamics,mass and heat transport,as well as the rate of Si *** gas-phase fines formation and heterogeneous deposition on the seed particle,as well as the scavenging effect for Si particle growth,are *** method is first validated against the experimentally measured Si deposition rate,percentage of fine production and minimum fluidisation ***,the properties,primarily particle intermixing,fluidisation behaviour and bubble dynamics along with the deposition process,are analyzed for several polydisperse beds under various operating *** effect of polydispersity of the bed on a fraction of the bubble size,dense phase expansion and interchange coefficient between various phases is thoroughly investigated to establish a correlation with reactor *** results show that broad-Gaussian particle size distribution(PSD)exhibits excellent improvement in fluidisation behaviour,resulting in a high deposition rate,and minimum formation of Si fines.

Hybrid Image Compression-Encryption Scheme Based on Multilayer Stacked Autoencoder and Logistic Map

Secure transmission of images over a communication channel, with limited data transfer capacity, possesses compression and encryption schemes. A deep learning based hybrid image compression-encryption scheme is proposed by combining stacked auto-encoder with the logistic map. The proposed structure of stacked autoencoder has seven multiple layers, and back propagation algorithm is intended to extend vector portrayal of information into lower vector space. The randomly generated key is used to set initial conditions and control parameters of logistic map. Subsequently, compressed image is encrypted by substituting and scrambling of pixel sequences using key stream sequences generated from logistic *** proposed algorithms are experimentally tested over five standard grayscale images. Compression and encryption efficiency of proposed algorithms are evaluated and analyzed based on peak signal to noise ratio(PSNR), mean square error(MSE), structural similarity index metrics(SSIM) and statistical,differential, entropy analysis respectively. Simulation results show that proposed algorithms provide high quality reconstructed images with excellent levels of security during transmission..

Stability Analysis, Chaos Control of Fractional Order Vallis and El-Nino Systems and Their Synchronization

In this article the authors have studied the stability analysis and chaos control of the fractional order Vallis and El-Nino systems. The chaos control of these systems is studied using nonlinear control method with the help of a new lemma for Caputo derivative and Lyapunov stability *** synchronization between the systems for different fractional order cases and numerical simulation through graphical plots for different particular cases clearly exhibit that the method is easy to implement and reliable for synchronization of fractional order chaotic systems. The comparison of time of synchronization when the systems pair approaches from standard order to fractional order is the key feature of the article.

In-line digital holography for dynamic metrology of MEMS(Invited Paper)

In-line digital holography helps to relax the spatial resolution requirement on charge-coupled device sensors for digital recording of holograms and to utilize the full sensing area for image reconstruction which provides larger field of view and better imaging resolution. In this letter, a lensless in-line digital holographic microscopy is presented for dynamic metrology of micro-electro-mechanical system devices. The methodologies of interferometry and time-averaged in-line digital holography are presented for dynamic measurements, which are also useful for simultaneous suppression of in-line waves from real image wave. The experimental results are presented for dynamic thermal characterization of microheater and vibration analysis of cantilevers.
