Heat shock protein family B(small)member 8(HsPB8)is a 22 kDa ubiquitously expressed protein belonging to the family of small heat shock ***8 is involved in various cellular mechanisms mainly related to proteotoxic stress response and in other processes such as inflammation,cell division,and ***8 binds misfolded clients to prevent their aggregation by assisting protein refolding or degradation through chaperone-assisted selective *** line with this function,the pro-degradative activity of HsPB8 has been found protective in several neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases characterized by protein misfolding and *** cancer,HsPB8 has a dual role being capable of exerting either a pro-or an anti-tumoral activity depending on the pathways and factors expressed by the model of cancer under ***,HsPB8 exerts a protective function in different diseases by modulating the inflammatory response,which characterizes not only neurodegenerative diseases,but also other chronic or acute conditions affecting the nervous system,such as multiple sclerosis and intracerebellar *** note,HsPB8 modulation may represent a therapeutic approach in other neurological conditions that develop as a secondary consequence of other *** is the case of cognitive impairment related to diabetes mellitus,in which HsPB8 exerts a protective activity by assuring mitochondrial *** review aims to summarize the diverse and multiple functions of HsPB8 in different pathological conditions,focusing on the beneficial effects of its ***-based and alternative therapeutic approaches targeting HsPB8 and its regulated pathways will be discussed,emphasizing how new strategies for cell and tissue-specific delivery represent an avenue to advance in disease treatments.

Mutation of a Gene in the Fungus Leptosphaeria maculans Allows Increased Frequency of Penetration of stomatal Apertures of Arabidopsis thaliana

Leptosphaeria maculans, a pathogen of Brassica napus, is unable to invade most wild-type accessions of Arabidopsis thaliana, although several mutants are susceptible. The infection pathway of L. maculans via a non-invasive inoculation method on A. thaliana Imsl （undefined）, pmr4-1 （defective in callose deposition）, and pen1-1 and pen2-1 （defective in non-host responses to several pathogens） mutants is described. On wild types Col-0 and Ler-0, hyphae are generally arrested at stomatal apertures. A T-DNA insertional mutant of L. maculans （A22） that penetrates stomatal apertures of Col-0 and Ler-0 five to seven times more often than the wild-type isolate is described. The higher penetration frequency of isolate A22 is associated with an increased hypersensitive response, which includes callose deposition. Com- plementation analysis showed that the phenotype of this isolate is due to T-DNA insertion in an intronless gene denoted as ipa （increased penetration on A rabidopsis）. This gene is predicted to encode a protein of 702 amino acids with best matches to hypothetical proteins in other filamentous ascomycetes. The ipa gene is expressed in the wild-type isolate at low levels in culture and during infection of A. thaliana and B. napus.

supercurrent decay in ballistic magnetic Josephson junctions

We investigate transport properties of ballistic magnetic Josephson junctions and establish that suppression of supercurrent is an intrinsic property of the junctions,even in absence of *** studying the role of ferromagnet thickness,magnetization,and crystal orientation we show how the supercurrent decays exponentially with thickness and identify two mechanisms responsible for the effect:(i)large exchange splitting may gap out minority or majority carriers leading to the suppression of Andreev reflection in the junction,(ii)loss of synchronization between different modes due to the significant dispersion of the quasiparticle velocity with the transverse *** results for Nb/Ni/Nb junctions are in good agreement with recent experimental *** approach combines density functional theory and the Bogoliubov-de Gennes model and opens a path for material composition optimization in magnetic Josephson junctions and superconducting magnetic spin valves.

A hydrogel based on chitosan,collagen,hydroxypropyl-c-cyclodextrin and polyethylene glycol was developed and *** incorporation of nano-hydroxyapatite and pre-encapsulated hydrophobic/hydrophilic model drugs diminished the porosity of hydrogel from 81.6262.25%to 69.9863.07%.Interactions between components of hydrogel,demonstrated by FTIR spectroscopy and rheology,generated a network that was able to trap bioactive components and delay the burst *** thixotropic behavior of hydrogel provided adaptability to facilitate its implantation in a minimally invasive *** profiles from microspheres included or not in hydrogel revealed a two-phase behavior with a burst-and a controlled-release *** same release rate for microspheres included or not in the hydrogel in the controlled-release period demonstrated that mass transfer process was controlled by internal *** diffusion coefficients,Deff,that describe internal diffusion inside microspheres,and mass transfer coefficients,h,*** contribution of hydrogel to mass transfer,were determined using‘genetic algorithms’,obtaining values between 2.64·10^(-15) and 6.67·10^(-15)m^(2)/s for Deff and 8.50·10^(-10) to 3.04·10^(-9) m/s for *** proposed model fits experimental data,obtaining an R2-value ranged between 95.41 and 98.87%.In vitro culture of mesenchymal stem cells in hydrogel showed no manifestations of intolerance or toxicity,observing an intense proliferation of the cells after 7 days,being most of the scaffold surface occupied by living cells.

Cytosolic Ca^2＋ is an important second messenger in virtually every type of cell. Moreover, Ca^2＋ generally regulates multiple activities within individual cells. This article reviews the cellular machinery that is responsible for Ca^2＋ signaling in cholangiocytes. In addition, two Ca^2＋-mediated events in cholangiocytes are discussed： bicarbonate secretion and apoptosis. Finally, emerging evidence is reviewed that Ca^2＋ signaling is involved in the pathogenesis of diseases affecting the biliary tree and that Ca^2＋ signaling pathways can be manipulated to therapeutic advantage in the treatment of cholestatic disorders.
