Classical and Non-Classical Celiac Disease Comparison: Ten Years of Study

Objective: Celiac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated systemic disorder triggered by gluten. It has a variable combination of clinical manifestations and changes that have been occurring in recent decades however they are not known in detail. The purpose of the article is to compare Classical and Non-Classical CD cases in terms of demographic characteristics, duodenal biopsy, extraintestinal manifestations, and associated comorbidities. Materials and Methods: A comparative retrospective cohort study from January 2008 to December 2018. Results: A total of 128 cases were included: 84 Classical (66%) and 44 Non-Classical CD (34%). The family history of CD was identified in 14% of cases without differences between groups. The age at diagnosis was distinct for Classical and Non-Classical CD (4.9 ± 4 and 8.3 ± 4 years old;p 0.001), respectively. Important changes were found within the classical presentation, including mono symptoms and a significantly higher rate of intestinal atrophy;p = 0.04. The main Non-Classical CD symptom was recurrent abdominal pain. The extraintestinal manifestations (EIM) were identified in 42% and occurred in both groups. The comparison between groups showed differences in rates of migraine and vitamin D deficiency and was higher for Non-Classical CD (p 0.05). Associated diseases occurred in 10.9%, and type 1 diabetes was significant for the Non-Classical CD group (p = 0.04). Conclusion: The classical CD was the most prevalent profile and presented a decrease in the severity of symptoms however remain a higher rate of intestinal atrophy. Recurrent abdominal pain was the main symptom of Non-Classical CD. Extraintestinal manifestations and associated diseases presented an increasing trend of occurrence among cases of Non-Classical CD.

This work presents a numerical methodology for modeling the Winkler supports and nonlinear conditions by proposing new boundary conditions. For the boundary conditions of Winkler support model, the surface tractions and the displacements normal to the surface of the solid are unknown, but their relationship is known by means of the ballast coefficient, whereas for nonlinear boundary conditions, the displacements normal to the boundary of the solid are zero in the positive direction but are allowed in the negative direction. In those zones, detachments of nodes might appear, leading to a nonlinearity, because the number of nodes that remain fixed or of the detached ones (under tensile tractions) is unknown. The proposed methodology is applied to the 3D elastic receding contact problem using the boundary element method. The surface t r actions and the displacements of the common int erface bet ween the two solids in contac t under the influence of different supports are calculated as well as the boundary zone of the solid where the new boundary conditions are applied. The problem is solved by a double-iterative met hod, so in the final solut ion, t here are no t r act ions or pene trations between the two solids or at the boundary of the solid where the nonlinear boundary conditions are Simula ted. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by examples.

Variation in offspring sex ratios is a central topic in animal demography and population *** studies have focused on bird species with marked sexual dimorphism and multiple-nestling broods,where the offspring sex ratio is often biased due to different individual or environmental ***,biases in offspring sex ratios have been far less investigated in monomorphic and single-egg laying species,and few studies have evaluated long-term and large-scale variations in the sex ratio of nestling ***,we explore individual and environmental factors potentially affecting the secondary sex ratio of the monomorphic griffon vulture Gyps *** used information collected at three breeding nuclei from central Spain over a 30-year period(1990–2020)to analyse the effects of nestling age,parental age,breeding phenology,conspecific density,population reproductive parameters,and spatial and temporal variability on nestling *** ratio did not differ from parity either at the population or the nuclei *** significant between-year differences were detected,even under highly changing conditions of food availability associated with the mad-cow *** found that tree nesting breeders tend to have more sons than daughters,but as this nesting behavior is rare and we consequently have a small sample size,this issue would require additional *** further research is needed to assess the potential effect of breeder identity on nestling sex ratio,this study contributes to understanding the basic ecology and population dynamics of Griffon Vultures,a long-lived species with deferred maturity and low fecundity,whose minor deviations in the offspring sex ratio might imply major changes at the population level.

This paper presents an eutrophication diagnosis for the San Pedro-Mezquital basin at Mexico;procedure accounted to set up 10 sampling points distributed along the river pathway, sample collection was done at two extreme conditions: rainy season and dry season. Five parameters were analyzed in this work: pH, % Dissolved Oxygen, reactive phosphorus, and nitrogen species as nitrate and ammonia compounds. Obtained concentrations were statistically analyzed to establish if there were significant differences among sites and between seasons;being the dry season the one with higher nutrient content, ammonia can be considered statistical significance due to the total values found for each season. Calculation of the Karydis eutrophication index for each parameter showed that more damaged sites were those nearby the cities, and most of the sampled sites belonged to the eutrophic category.

The genetically heterogeneous NIH-HS rat stock has been characterized by its response to anxiety- and fear-inducing situations, thus leading to the conclusion that they are a rather anxious and passive coping type of rats. Taking advantage of these profiles, and knowing that they show very poor performance in the two-way active (shuttle box) escape/avoidance task, we have tested NIH-HS rats (n = 80) in the forced swimming test (FST) as well as we have studied escape response deficits (i.e. response failures) of the same animals in the two-way shuttle box task. They were also tested for anxiety in the elevated zero-maze. The goal of such a study was that of investigating whether there are associations or relationships among helplessness-like or passive coping responses between both models of depression, i.e. the FST and the helplessness-like escape deficits in the shuttle box task. The results for the first time show associations among responses from both depression models and that selecting rats for displaying extreme (active or passive) responses in one of the models predict in a coherent manner (according to the hypothesis) their behaviour in the other model. These findings are discussed in the context of the concurrent validity of both models of depression as well as concerning the possible relevance of NIH-HS rats as a tool for future studies on this field.

The introduction of two-photon polymerization(TPP)into the area of Carbon Micro Electromechanical Systems(CMEMS)has enabled the fabrication of three-dimensional glassy carbon nanostructures with geometries previously unattainable through conventional UV *** of TPP structures conveys a characteristic reduction of feature size—one that should be properly estimated in order to produce carbon microdevices with *** this work,we studied the volumetric shrinkage of TPP-derived microwires upon pyrolysis at 900℃.Through this process,photoresist microwires thermally decompose and shrink by as much as 75%,resulting in glassy carbon nanowires with linewidths between 300 and 550 *** after the thermal decomposition induced by the pyrolysis step,the linewidth of the carbon nanowires was found to be dependent on the TPP exposure *** have also found that the thermal stress induced during the pyrolysis step not only results in axial elongation of the nanowires,but also in buckling in the case of slender carbon nanowires(for aspect ratios greater than 30).Furthermore,we show that the calculated residual mass fraction that remains after pyrolysis depends on the characteristic dimensions of the photoresist microwires,a trend that is consistent with several works found in the *** phenomenon is explained through a semi-empirical model that estimates the feature size of the carbon structures,serving as a simple guideline for shrinkage evaluation in other designs.

The “National Institutes of Health” genetically heterogeneous (NIH-HS) rat stock was created in the 1980s through an eight-way cross of as much as possible separate inbred rat strains (i.e. the MR/N, WN/N, WKY/N, M520/N, F344/N, ACI/N, BN/SsN and BUF/N strains) which were readily available at that time. Hansen and Spuhler [1] developed a more naturalistic, genetically heterogeneous rat stock with the aim of optimizing the distribution of genotypic frequencies and recombination and under the hypothesis that the NIH-HS stock could yield a broad-range distribution of responses (broader than commonly used laboratory rat strains) to experimental conditions, and thus serve as a base population for selection studies. Along the last decade, in a series of studies we have phenotypically characterized the NIH-HS rat stock (a colony exists at our laboratory since 2004) for their anxiety/fearfulness profiles (using a battery of both unconditioned and conditioned tests/tasks), as well as regarding their stress-induced hormonal responses, coping style under inescapable stress and spatial learning ability. We have also compared the phenotypic profiles of NIH-HS rats with those of the low anxious RHA-I and the high anxious RLA-I rat strains. The NIH-HS rat stock is, as a population, a rather anxious type of rat, with predominantly reactive/passive coping style in unlearned and learned anxiety/fear tests, and elevated stress hormone responses (as well as enhanced “depressive” symptoms in the forced swimming test). Genetic studies currently under way have thus far revealed that the genetically heterogeneous NIH-HS rat stock constitutes a unique tool for fine mapping of QTL (for multiple behavioural and biological complex traits) to megabase resolution levels, thus enabling candidate gene identification. Samples of a cobalt-based alloy that underwent a surface treatment were evaluated. The samples, which were obtained by casting alloy ASTM F 75, were ground and polished on one side until a mirror finish was obtained. The samples were encapsulated in wollastonite （W） using uniaxial pressure, treated at 1 220 ~C for 1 h and subsequently tempered in water. The characterisation of the sample indicated that part of the ceramic encapsulating material was mechanically incorporated on the metallic surface by growth of the oxide layer of the alloy. After thermal treatment, a series of specimens were submerged in a solution with 5-fold simulated body fluid （5SBF） for 3, 5 and 21 days. Characterisation by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, energy dispersive spectroscopy （EDS） and X-ray diffraction （XRD） indicated nucleation and growth of a homogenous layer of apatite, beginning on the third day when the sample was submerged.
