Artificial neural network analysis of the day of the week anomaly in cryptocurrencies

Anomalies,which are incompatible with the efficient market hypothesis and mean a deviation from normality,have attracted the attention of both financial investors and researchers.A salient research topic is the existence of anomalies in cryptocurrencies,which have a different financial structure from that of traditional financial markets.This study expands the literature by focusing on artificial neural networks to compare different currencies of the cryptocurrency market,which is hard to predict.It aims to investigate the existence of the day-of-the-week anomaly in cryptocurrencies with feedforward artificial neural networks as an alternative to traditional methods.An artificial neural network is an effective approach that can model the nonlinear and complex behavior of cryptocurrencies.On October 6,2021,Bitcoin(BTC),Ethereum(ETH),and Cardano(ADA),which are the top three cryptocurrencies in terms of market value,were selected for this study.The data for the analysis,consisting of the daily closing prices for BTC,ETH,and ADA,were obtained from the *** website from January 1,2018 to May 31,2022.The effectiveness of the established models was tested with mean squared error,root mean squared error,mean absolute error,and Theil’s U1,and R2 OOS was used for out-of-sample.The Diebold–Mariano test was used to statistically reveal the difference between the out-of-sample prediction accuracies of the models.When the models created with feedforward artificial neural networks are examined,the existence of the day-of-the-week anomaly is established for BTC,but no day-of-the-week anomaly for ETH and ADA was found.

Investigation of effects of Cocamide Diethanolamide chemical on physical and rheological properties of bituminous binder

In this study,bituminous binder was modified with Cocamide Diethanolamide chemical,a non-ionic surfactant,and the physical and rheological properties of modified binders were investigated.In addition,Cocamide Diethanolamide has been used for the first time to modify bituminous binder,and this situation makes the study distinctive.Bituminous binder was modified more than once with the chemical by changing modification parameters and using certain additive ratios(1%,3%,and 5%).The effects of different modification parameters and chemical additive on modified samples were investigated with conventional bitumen tests(softening point,penetration,ductility)and Superpave tests(rotational viscometer,rolling thin film oven test,pressure aging vessel,dynamic shear rheometer,bending beam rheometer).In addition,the structural characteristics of the reference binder and modified samples were examined by X-ray diffraction,Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.The examinations showed that Cocamide Diethanolamide softens bituminous binder and lowers processing temperatures.In addition,compared to reference binder,rutting resistances of modified bituminous binders decreased with the increase of additive ratio.However,modification with Cocamide Diethanolamide increased the resistance to fatigue cracks and thermal cracks.

The geomechanical properties of soils treated with nanosilica particles

This study examines the effect of nanosilica(NS)additive to improve the mechanical properties of clay,clayey sand,and sand.The engineering properties of the soils were investigated through Atterberg limits,compaction,unconfined compression,ultrasonic pulse velocity(UPV),freeze-thaw,and direct shear tests.The NS content varied from 0%to 0.7%and cement content was 5%and 10%by the dry weight of the soil.The curing period varied from 7 d to 150 d.The consistency,compaction,and strength properties of the soils were affected by the presence of NS and cement.The optimum NS contents in clay specimens with 5%and 10%cement were 0.5%and 0.7%,respectively.It was 0.7%in sand specimens with both cement ratios,as well as 0.3%and 0.7%in clayey sand specimens with 5%and 10%cement,respectively.In terms of freeze-thaw resistance,clayey sand specimens containing 0.5%NS and 10%cement had the minimum strength loss.Exponential relationships existed between the ultrasonic pulse velocity(UPV)and the unconfined compressive strength(UCS)of soil specimens having the same curing period.The shear strength parameters of the soils also improved with the addition of NS.Scanning electron microscope(SEM)images demonstrated that cement and NS contributed to the improvement of the soils by producing a denser and more uniform structure.It was concluded that the minor addition of NS could potentially improve the geomechanical properties of the soils.

A Hybrid Multi-Hazard Susceptibility Assessment Model for a Basin in Elazig Province,Türkiye

Preparation of accurate and up-to-date susceptibility maps at the regional scale is mandatory for disaster mitigation,site selection,and planning in areas prone to multiple natural hazards.In this study,we proposed a novel multi-hazard susceptibility assessment approach that combines expert-based and supervised machine learning methods for landslide,flood,and earthquake hazard assessments for a basin in Elazig Province,Türkiye.To produce the landslide susceptibility map,an ensemble machine learning algorithm,random forest,was chosen because of its known performance in similar studies.The modified analytical hierarchical process method was used to produce the flood susceptibility map by using factor scores that were defined specifically for the area in the study.The seismic hazard was assessed using ground motion parameters based on Arias intensity values.The univariate maps were synthesized with a Mamdani fuzzy inference system using membership functions designated by expert.The results show that the random forest provided an overall accuracy of 92.3%for landslide susceptibility mapping.Of the study area,41.24%were found prone to multi-hazards(probability value>50%),but the southern parts of the study area are more susceptible.The proposed model is suitable for multi-hazard susceptibility assessment at a regional scale although expert intervention may be required for optimizing the algorithms.

A novel Fe/HNT visible light-driven heterogeneous photocatalyst:Development as a semiconductor and photocatalytic application

Fe/HNT(Iron/Halloysite-nanotube) heterogeneous semiconductor catalysts operating effectively under visible light were developed by using FeCl3, FeSO4and Fe(OH)3sludge precipitated after electro-Fenton process and named as Fe/HNT-I, Fe/HNT-II and Fe/HNT-III, respectively. Chemical configuration and particle morphology of the catalysts were characterized with XRD, SEM-EDS and UV–vis DRS. Effect of the developed Fe/HNT photocatalysts was investigated for the degradation of Reactive Orange 16(RO16) textile dye under visible light. The photocatalytic decolorization of RO16 was 95.6%, 99.3% and 96.6%, respectively. It was found that the photocatalytic performance of Fe/HNT-III catalyst under visible light was effective compared to Fe/HNT-I and Fe/HNTII. The iron ratio in the catalyst’s structure(Fe:HNT ratio 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75(w/w)) and p H value(4, 7 and 9) in production phase were also changed to investigate the photocatalytic effect of Fe/HNT-III. An Fe:HNT ratio of 0.25 and a p H of 4 were determined as the optimum conditions for catalyst production. Optimum H2O2dosage value was also investigated for photocatalytic oxidation process and determined to be 10 m M. Finally, the optimum conditions were further used for the degradation of Terbinafine hydrochloride(Ter HCl) active drug and the treatment of wastewater from the textile and pharmaceutical industries.

Determination of the mesenchymal stem cells is one of the greatest and most exciting achievements that tissue engineering and regenerative medicine have achieved.Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(AD-MSC)are easily isolated and cultured for a long time before losing their stem cell characteristics,which are self-renewal and pluripotency.AD-MSC are mesenchymal stem cells that have pluripotent lineage characteristics.They are easily accessible,and the fraction of stem cells in the adipose tissue lysates is highest among all other sources of mesenchymal stem cells.It is also HLA-DR negative and can be transplanted allogenically without the need for immunosuppression.These advantages have popularized its use in many fields including plastic reconstructive surgery.However,in the field of hepatology and liver transplantation,the progress is slower.AD-MSC have the potential to modulate inflammation,ameliorate ischemia-reperfusion injury,and support liver and biliary tract regeneration.These are very important for the treatment of various hepatobiliary diseases.Furthermore,the anti-inflammatory potential of these cells has paramount importance in the treatment of sepsis.We need alternative therapeutic approaches to treat end-stage liver failure.AD-MSC can provide a means of therapy to bridge to definitive therapeutic alternatives such as liver transplantation.Here we propose to review theoretic applications of AD-MSC in the treatment of hepatobiliary diseases and sepsis.

BACKGROUND Pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis(PLCH)is a rare cystic lung disease usually affecting young adults.It is predicted that PLCH is a lung tumor precursor associated with dysfunction of the myeloid dendritic cells in the lung.CASE SUMMARY A 70-year-old male patient presented with chronic cough and sputum.He had symptoms for 5 years and described shortness of breath on exertion for the previous 3 years.He had a 60 packs/year smoking history.Computerized tomography of the thorax revealed an 11-mm nodule in the right lung lower lobe superior segment and a 7-mm nodule in the right lung lower lobe poster basal segment.Those two nodules were resected by means of right thoracoscopic surgery.Pathological evaluation revealed a squamous cell carcinoma and PLCH.CONCLUSION Coexistent squamous cell carcinoma and PLCH suggest possible association between PLCH and lung cancer.

Patterns in the relationship between acute COVID-19/long COVID-19 and quality of life:A cross-sectional study of patients attending a tertiary care hospital in Turkey

Objective:To determine the change in the quality of life(QoL)of patients who applied to a tertiary outpatient clinic according to their COVID-19 status.Methods:This cross-sectional study comprised 1370 participants.Short form-12(SF-12),which includes Physical Component Summary(PCS)and Mental Component Summary(MCS)domains,was used to evaluate the QoL.Different linear regression models created using PCS-12 and MCS-12 were dependent variables.Results:A total of 19.2% of participants had acute COVID-19,and 8.4%had long COVID-19.The most common sypmtoms were fatigue(72.6%),headache(42.5%),and joint pain(39.8%)in patients with long COVID-19.The model including all participants showed that long COVID-19 reduced the QoL in multivariate analysis for both MCS and PCS,while acute COVID-19 had no significant effect on the QoL comparing with those without COVID-19.Model that included participants with COVID-19 showed that long COVID-19 negatively affected the QoL in the multivariate model for PCS-12 and MCS-12.Variables that were significant in the multivariate model for those who had long COVID-19 were having a chronic disease and presence of ongoing symptoms.Females were disadvantaged for PCS-12 and MCS-12 in the multivariate models including all participants,and models including participants who have had COVID-19.Low educational group were disadvantaged for PCS-12 in the multivariate model including all participants.This group were also disadvantaged for PCS-12 and MCS-12 in the multivariate models including participants who had COVID-19.Conclusions:In studies,acute COVID-19 and long COVID-19 should be treated as separate categories.The effects of long COVID-19 should be considered when providing and planning health services.The effect of gender,and education,on QoL shows that health inequalities continue to be effective during the pandemic period.

Host genetic factors affecting hepatitis B infection outcomes:Insights from genome-wide association studies

The clinical outcome of hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection depends on the success or failure of the immune responses to HBV,and varies widely among individuals,ranging from asymptomatic self-limited infection,inactive carrier state,chronic hepatitis,cirrhosis,hepatocellular carcinoma,to liver failure,depending on the success or failure of immune response to HBV.Genome-wide association studies(GWAS) identified key genetic factors influencing the pathogenesis of HBV-related traits.In this review,we discuss GWAS for persistence of HBV infection,antibody response to hepatitis B vaccine,and HBV-related advanced liver diseases.HBV persistence is associated with multiple genes with diverse roles in immune mechanisms.The strongest associations are found within the classical human leukocyte antigen(HLA) genes,highlighting the central role of antigen presentation in the immune response to HBV.Associated variants affect both epitope binding specificities and expression levels of HLA molecules.Several other susceptibility genes regulate the magnitude of adaptive immune responses,determining immunity vs tolerance.HBV persistence and nonresponse to vaccine share the same risk variants,implying overlapping genetic bases.On the other hand,the risk variants for HBV-related advanced liver diseases are largely different,suggesting different host-virus dynamics in acute vs chronic HBV infections.The findings of these GWAS are likely to pave the way for developing more effective preventive and therapeutic interventions by personalizing the management of HBV infection.

Effect of asymmetric rolling process on the microstructure,mechanical properties and texture of AZ31 magnesium alloys sheets produced by twin roll casting technique

Symmetric rolling(SR)and asymmetric rolling(ASR)processes were carried out on 6 mm thick AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets that were produced by twin roll casting(TRC)technique.Before rolling processes,sheets were heat treated in order to obtain a homogenized microstructure.In this study,for the ASR process the rolling speed ratio between upper roller and lower was selected as 1.25.Both SR and ASR processes were utilized with 40%reduction per passes using 2 pass schedule for a total reduction ratio of 0.67.Symmetric and asymmetric rolled sheets were characterized using optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)techniques.Texture measurements were performed by using X-ray diffraction(XRD)technique and mechanical properties were investigated by tensile tests and also hardness measurements.
