Antiviral therapy of hepatitis c as curative treatment of indolent B-cell lymphoma

The association of hepatitis c virus(HcV) and B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas(NHL) has been highlighted by several epidemiological and biological insights; however the most convincing evidence is represented by interventional studies demonstrating the capability of antiviral treatment(AT) with interferon(IFN) with or without ribavirin to induce the regression of indolent lymphomas, especially of marginal-zone origin. In the largest published retrospective study(100 patients) the overall response rate(ORR) after first-line IFN-based AT was 77%(44% complete responses) and responses were sustainable(median duration of response 33 mo). These results were confirmed by a recent metaanalysis on 254 patients, demonstrating an ORR of 73%. Moreover this analysis confirmed the highly significant correlation between the achievement of viral eradication sustained virological response(SVR) and hematological responses. Two large prospective studies demonstrated that AT is associated with improved survival and argue in favor of current guidelines' recommendation of AT as preferential first-line option in asymptomatic patients with HcV-associated indolent NHL. The recently approved direct-acting antiviral agents(DAAs) revolutionized the treatment of HcV infection, leading to SVR approaching 100% in all genotypes. Very preliminary data of IFN-free DAAs therapy in indolent HcV-positive NHL seem to confirm their activity in inducing lymphoma regression.

Tree colonization by the Asian longhorn beetle, Anoplophora glabripennis （coleoptera： cerambycidae）： effect of habitat and tree suitability

Tree colonization and feeding activity of the invasive wood-borer Asian longhorn beetle （Anoplophora glabripennis）, an Asian pest introduced into North America and Europe, was studied in a newly invaded area in Italy. The hypothesis be- ing tested was that the reproductive success of the insect depend on habitat type and tree suitability. Adult beetles were caged on branches of host and nonhost species, in both urban and forest habitats. Two months later, number and size of feeding patches on plant tissues, eggs laid, and surviving larvae were assessed. Bark concentration of c and N was also measured from the same trees. Results indicated that the mean area of plant tissues consumed by adult feeding was significantly larger on trees growing in forest than in urban habitat, although within the same habitat there were no differences between susceptible and nonsusceptible trees. ALB tree colonization, in terms of number of eggs laid and young larvae survival, was not affected by habitat while it was higher on susceptible trees. Although trees growing in forests had a lower nitrogen concentration, they allowed colo- nization rates similar to those of trees growing in the urban habitat. Hence, the amount of carbon and nitrogen did not fully explain tree suitability or habitat selection. We suggest compensatory feeding as a potential mechanism that might explain this peculiar situation, as supported by a more intensive feeding activity recorded on trees in the forest. Suitability of different trees may be due to other factors, such as secondary chemical compounds.

Mulching as best management practice to reduce surface runoff and erosion in steep clayey olive groves

No-tillage and soil mulching with pruning residues,applied in olive groves of the semi-arid Mediter-ranean environment,as erosion control practices still practice not fully *** study has evaluated the saturated hydraulic conductivity(Ksat),surface runoff(SR)and soil erosion(SL)under rainfall at plot scale throughout two years in four different management practices,total soil cover with a net(SP),mechanical tillage(MT)and mulching by vegetal residues at 3,5·10^(3) and 17,5·10^(3) kg ha^(-1) of dry matter(NTR350 and NTR1750),in an olive grove of Southern *** varied between 1.6(MT)and 25.1(NTR1750)mm/h.A clear reduction in runoff and soil losses was detected for the mulch-based practices when compared to MT,from 20 to 32%in the runoff coefficient and 75-80%in SL,with higher reductions in the *** reduction in SL can be mainly explained by the reduction in SR and rain-splash,interrill and rill erosion,due to protection by mulch residues,which increased the vegetal cover and organic matter content of mulched *** vegetal cover was on average higher in SP(33%),NTR1750(25%)and NTR350(22%),and lower in MT(12%).The mean organic matter content of soil was 2.01%,1.69%,1.34%and 0.82%for NTR1750,NTR350,SP and MT ***,the results quantify the impact of soil mulching with pruning residues at different doses,which will provide guidelines to control and mitigate the hydrological response of clayey and steep soils in Mediterranean olive groves,analysing the associated environmental and economic benefits.

Assessment of Potential Nutrient Release from Phosphate Rock and Dolostone for Application in Acid Soils

Finding alternative local sources of plant nutrients is a practical, low-cost, and long-term strategy. In this study, laboratory column experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design to evaluate the feasibility of using phosphate rock and dolostone as fertilizers or acid-neutralizing agents for application in tropical acid soils. The dissolution rates of different particle-size fractions(0.063–0.25, 0.25–0.5, and 0.5–2 mm) of both rocks were studied by citric acid solution at p H 4 and 2 and water, with extraction times of 1, 3, 5, 7, 12, 24, 72, 144, 240, and 360 h. The results showed that the dissolution of both rocks depended on the particle size,leaching solution, and extraction time. The dissolution rate of rock-forming minerals increased as the specific surface area increased,corresponding to a decrease in particle size. In all cases, the release kinetics was characterized by two phases: 1) a first stage of rapid release that lasted 24 h and would ensure short-term nutrient release, and 2) a second stage of slow release after 24 h, representing the long-term nutrient release efficiency. Both rocks were suitable as slow-release fertilizers in strongly acid soils and would ensure the replenishment of P, ca, and Mg. A combination of fine and medium particle-size fractions should be used to ensure high nutrient-release efficiency. Much work could remain to determine the overall impact of considerable amounts of fresh rocks in soils.

随着HY-1c卫星于2018年9月成功发射,中国海洋水色遥感进入业务化全球观测时代。海洋环境观测、生态环境监测以及海洋防灾减灾等都对海洋水色遥感提出了较高的定量化要求。本文基于国际通用的时空匹配方法,利用2018年和2020年海洋卫星在轨测试海上试验以及在中国东海、欧洲亚得里亚海近岸海域部署的自动太阳光度计(SeaPRISM)观测数据,对HY-1c卫星搭载的水色水温扫描仪(cOcTS)的L2A级业务化产品(包括遥感反射率和气溶胶光学厚度)进行了真实性检验。研究发现,SeaPRISM自动测量能够提升数据获取效率和观测数据时间跨度,有助于更好刻画水色遥感产品误差的时间分布规律。检验结果表明,cOcTS的遥感反射率与现场实测数据具有较好的一致性,但匹配数据的离散度较高,其蓝光波段、绿光波段和红光波段的遥感反射率在不同海域与实测数据的平均相对百分比偏差(RPD)和平均绝对百分比偏差(APD)分别为-5.6%和46.8%、11.8%和53.0%、101.4%和173.9%,而其气溶胶光学厚度的在不同海域与实测数据的RPD和APD分别为-14.2%和79.5%;cOcTS遥感反射率光谱形状与实测数据一致性较高,但在不同海域表现出较大差异:中南海海域的谱形一致性非常高,但呈显著高估特点;中国东海海域的谱形相似度高,但存显著的低估;而欧洲亚得里亚海海域的谱形差异较大,即在蓝光波段呈现高估特点,而在绿光和红光波段呈现低估特点。对比同期的HY-1c卫星cOcTS L2A及产品与AQUA卫星MODIS二级产品的检验结果发现,后者在遥感反射率估算精度和光谱谱形相似度方面表现更好,而在气溶胶光学厚度定量反演方面则没有表现出显著优势。本文的研究认为cOcTS数据虽然已经在多个应用领域发挥了重要作用,但其业务化产品的定量化精度和水平仍有较大提升空间,至少L2A级产品是如此。

Light Electrospun Polyvinylpyrrolidone Blanket for Low Frequencies Sound Absorption

Light polymeric soundproofing materials （density = 63 kg/m3） of interest for the transportation industry were fabricated through electrospinning. Blankets of electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone （average fiber diameter = （1.6 ± 0.5） or （2.8 ± 0.5） μm） were obtained by stacking disks of electrospun mats. The sound absorption coefficients were measured using the impedance tube instrument based on ASTM E1050 and ISO 10534-2. For a given set of disks （from a minimum of 6） the sound absorption coefficient changed with the frequency （in the range 200-1600 Hz） following a bell shape curve with a maximum （where the coefficient is greater than 0.9） that shifts to lower frequencies at higher piled disks number and greater fiber diameter. This work showed that electrospinning produced sound absorbers with reduced thickness （2-3 cm） and excellent sound-absorption properties in the low and medium frequency range.

How the optical timing system,the longitudinal diagnostics and the associated feedback systems provide femtosecond stable operation at the FERMI free electron laser

FERMI, the seeded free electron laser(FEL) in operation in Italy, is providing the User community with unique fully coherent radiation, in the wavelength range 100–4 nm. FERMI is the first FEL fully synchronized by means of optical fibers. The optical timing system ensures an ultra-stable phase reference to its distributed clients. Several femtosecond longitudinal diagnostics verify the achieved performance; the bunch length monitor(BLM) and the bunch arrival monitor(BAM) will be presented in this paper. Feedback systems play a crucial role to guarantee the needed longterm electron beam stability. A real-time infrastructure allows shot-to-shot communication between front-end computers and the servers. Orbit feedbacks are useful in machine tuning, whereas longitudinal feedbacks control electron energy,compression and arrival time. A flexible software framework allows a rapid implementation of heterogeneous multiinput–multi-output(MIMO) longitudinal loops simply by selecting the appropriate sensors and actuators.

Transcriptional regulation of adult neural stem/progenitor cells: tales from the subventricular zone

In rodents,well characterized neurogenic niches of the adult brain,such as the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone of the hippocampus,support the maintenance of neural/stem progenitor cells(NSPcs)and the production of new neurons throughout the *** adult neurogenic process is dependent on the intrinsic gene expression signatures of NSPcs that make them competent for self-renewal and neuronal *** the same time,it is receptive to regulation by various extracellular signals that allow the modulation of neuronal production and integration into brain circuitries by various physiological stimuli.A drawback of this plasticity is the sensitivity of adult neurogenesis to alterations of the niche environment that can occur due to aging,injury or *** the core of the molecular mechanisms regulating neurogenesis,several transcription factors have been identified that maintain NSPc identity and mediate NSPc response to extrinsic ***,we focus on REST,Egr1 and Dbx2 and their roles in adult neurogenesis,especially in the subventricular *** review recent work from our and other laboratories implicating these transcription factors in the control of NSPc proliferation and differentiation and in the response of NSPcs to extrinsic influences from the *** also discuss how their altered regulation may affect the neurogenic process in the aged and in the diseased ***,we highlight key open questions that need to be addressed to foster our understanding of the transcriptional mechanisms controlling adult neurogenesis.

Sperm quality improvement after natural anti-oxidant treatment of asthenoteratospermic men with leukocytospermia

Aim： To study the immune-modulating and anti-oxidant effects of beta-glucan, papaya, lactoferrin, and vitamins c and E on sperm characteristics of patients with asthenoteratozoospermia associated with leucocytosis. Methods： Fifty-one patients referred to our Sterility center for semen analysis were selected. Sperm parameters were assessed before and after patient＇s treatment with beta-glucan, lactoferrin, papaya, and vitamins c and E. DNA damage was assessed by the acridine orange test and sperm structural characteristics were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy. Results： After 90 days of treatment, an increase in the percentage of morphologically normal sperm （17.0 ± 5.2 vs. 29.8 ± 6.5） and total progressive motility （19.0± 7.8 vs. 34.8 ± 6.8） were detected. Structural sperm characteristics as well as chromatin integrity were also improved after treatment. In terms of leukocyte concentration in seminal fluid, a significant reduction was recorded （2.2 ± 0.9 vs. 0.9± 0.2）. conclusion： The treatment of an inflammatory process by the synergic action of immune modulators and anti-oxidants could protect sperm during maturation and migration, leading to improved sperm function. （Asian JAndrol 2008 Mar;. 10： 201-206）
