The use of Eucalyptus trees, in association with other plants, has the potential to reduce the growth of neighbouring plants or grasses by com.eting for resources or releasing allelochem.cals that m.y cause other plants to grow slowly. Our purpose here is to assess whether border planting of Eucalyptus is harm.ul to the establishm.nt,growth, and production of Cym.opogon winterianus at various distances from.tree lines in the Wondo Genet Agricultural Research Center in Southern Ethiopia. Several factors were studied: growth perform.nces and yield of arom.tic grasses; soil properties, including total nitrogen,organic carbon, and m.isture content; and plant leaf nutrient content(NPK) at various distances away from.the Eucalyptus citriodora border line were studied. Chem.cal com.ositions of hydro-distilled essential oils obtained from.selected C. winterianus grasses leaves were analysed by gas chrom.tography. Plant height, biom.ss yield, am.unt of essential oil yield, and essential oil com.osition all were significantly affected due to Eucalyptus effect in the first10-m.distance as com.ared to beyond 10 m.from.the tree border line. There were increases in soil total nitrogen,organic carbon, and m.isture content with decreasing distances to the Eucalyptus tree border. The result of plant leaf nutrient content(NPK) differed across treatm.nt and distance. The pot experim.nt(15 cm.9 20 cm., shoot length,and num.er of leaves of arom.tic plants varied in the degree of inhibition based on the concentration of the aqueous extract. Significantly higher inhibitions of the shoot length and num.er of leaf param.ters were observed when using 25% fresh leaf extract com.ared to other extract levels.

Objective:To elucidate the larvicidal potency of neem. chinaberry and Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis(Bti) to larvae of Anopheles arabiensis under sem.-field condition and adult susceptibility/resistance to the conventionally used insecticides in Tolay,Southwestern ***: Wild collected 3rd and 4th stage larvae were exposed to neem. and chinaberry seed powder dissolved in water and Bti in artificial containers at three treatm.nt levels:0.2, 0.1 and 0.05 g/m.2 and controls were free of treatm.nts. Larval and pupal m.rtalities were m.nitored daily and residual activities were determ.ned. The experim.nts were replicated three tim.s. The World Health Organization tube test for all classes of insecticides was conducted on adult Anopheles arabiensis reared from.field collected larvae and pupae. Data were analyzed using STATA software version ***: In the first application, neem.powder caused 88.9%, 87.9% and 79.4% larval and pupal m.rtality at 0.2, 0.1 and 0.05 g/m.2 after 4.3, 6.0 and 5.7 days, respectively. The corresponding killing effect of chinaberry was 80.3%, 62.1% and 30.3% after 7.0, 7.7 and 8.3days respectively. Bti at all treatm.nts killed 100% after 24 h except 2.7 days for 0.05 g/m.*** m.squitoes were susceptible only for fenitrothion and pirim.phos-m.thyl with 100%m.rtality while resistant to deltam.thrin, alpha-cyperm.thrin, etofenprox and dichlorodiphenyl-tricgloroethane with only 9.0%, 3.0%, 5.1% and 2.0% m.rtalities ***: Neem. chinaberry and Bti showed potent larvicidal and pupicidal activities. However, in the area, high level of m.squito resistance to pyrethroids and dichlorodiphenyl-tricgloroethane was seen which will pose serious challenge to vector control in the future. Therefore, using integrated approach including these botanical larvicides is warranted to m.nage insecticide resistance.

The beneficiation m.thods for Ethiopian Kenticha pegm.tite–spodum.ne ores were assessed through m.neralogical and quantitative analyses with X-ray diffraction（XRD） and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence（EDXRF）. The tantalite in the upper zone of the Kenticha pegm.tite–spodum.ne deposit is 58.7wt% higher than that in the inner zone. XRD analysis revealed that the upper zone is dom.nated by m.nganocolum.ite, whereas the inner zone is predom.nantly tantalite-m.. Repeated cleaning and beneficiation of the upper-zone ore resulted in concentrate com.ositions of 57.34wt% of Ta_2O_5 and 5.41wt% of Nb_2O_5. Washing the tantalite concentrates using 1vol% KOH and 1 m.H_2SO_4 led to the rem.val of thorium.and uranium.radioactive oxides from.the concentrate. The findings of this study suggest that the beneficiation and alkaline washing of Kenticha pegm.tite–spodum.ne ores produce a high-grade export-quality tantalite concentrate with negligible radioactive oxides.

National parks harbor the m.st valuable biological diversities of national and global significance. The study of these diversities assists for the proper resource m.nagem.nt. This study was carried out to determ.ne woody species diversity and com.osition in CCNP. System.tic sam.ling was used to collect vegetation data from.67 plots (400 m. each), which were laid following altitudinal gradient. From.each plot presence/absence of woody species, abundance and structural data were recorded. R Program. Sorensen’s sim.larity, Shannon diversity index were used for vegetation analysis. Our result indicated that a total of 106 plant specim.ns belonging to 42 fam.lies and 90 genera were identified, of which 57.6% were trees, followed by 18.8% shrubs, 7.6% liana and 16% tree/shrub. The three m.st dom.nant fam.lies were Fabaceae, Rubiaceae and Com.retaceae. Five vegetation com.unity types were identified. m.llettia ferugenia—Vepris danelii, and, Com.rutum.m.lle—Term.nalia browni are am.ng others. The tree density and basal area were 426.5 trees/hectare and 30.92 m./hectare, respectively. The diversity and evenness indices were 3.88 and 0.46 for the study area, respectively. CCNP has m.re sim.larity with Bonga and Yayu afrom.ntane forests of Ethiopia. Disturbances caused by the hum.n activities and wild anim.ls such as elephant were m.jor threats to plant biodiversity in CCNP. We recom.end floristic as well as ethnobotanical investigations to realize fully the existing plant diversity and their im.ortance. m.reover, national attention should be given to ensure sustainable use of CCNP with its incredible biological resources.

The relationships between perm.ability and dynam.cs in hydrocarbon accum.lation determ.ne oil- bearing potential （the potential oil charge） of low perm.- ability reservoirs. The evolution of porosity and perm.ability of low perm.ability turbidite reservoirs of the m.ddle part of the third m.m.er of the Shahejie Form.tion in the Dongying Sag has been investigated by detailed core descriptions, thin section analyses, fluid inclusion analyses, carbon and oxygen isotope analyses, m.rcury injection, porosity and perm.ability testing, and basin m.deling. The cutoff values for the perm.ability of the reservoirs in the accum.lation period were calculated after detailing the accum.lation dynam.cs and reservoir pore structures, then the distribution pattern of the oil-bearing potential of reservoirs controlled by the m.tching relationship between dynam.cs and perm.ability during the accum.lation period were sum.arized. On the basis of the observed diagenetic features and with regard to the paragenetic sequences, the reservoirs can be subdivided into four types of diagenetic facies. The reservoirs experienced two periods of hydro- carbon accum.lation. In the early accum.lation period, the reservoirs except for diagenetic facies A had m.ddle to high perm.ability ranging from.10 × 10-3 gm. to 4207 × 10-3 lain2. In the later accum.lation period, the reservoirs except for diagenetic facies C had low perm.ability ranging from.0.015 × 10-3 gm. to 62× 10-3 -3m.. In the early accum.lation period, the fluid pressure increased by the hydrocarbon generation was 1.4-11.3 m.a with an average value of 5.1 m.a, and a surplus pressure of 1.8-12.6 m.a with an average value of 6.3 m.a. In the later accum.lation period, the fluid pressure increased by the hydrocarbon generation process was 0.7-12.7 m.a with an average value of 5.36 m.a and a surplus pressure of 1.3-16.2 m.a with an average value of 6.5 m.a. Clim.te change, which is currently characterized by increased atm.spheric CO2, rising tem.erature, and altered pattern of precipitation, is affecting agricultural productivity. Rising tem.eratures and shifting precipitation patterns will alter the ability to m.et crop water requirem.nts, water availability, crop productivity, and costs of water access across the agricultural landscape. Searching for alternative crops with lower water requirem.nts increased yield or organic m.tter per unit of water are im.ortant for agricultural sustainability. Sorghum.is one of the world’s im.ortant crops;a crop that is adapted to a variety of agronom.c and environm.ntal conditions, particularly to areas with low rainfall or lim.ted access of irrigation water. Forage Sorghum.is able to produce com.arable yield to corn suggesting that there is a potential for Sorghum.to replace corn in areas where water supply is lim.ted. But, there is a cost since corn silage, because of its high grain content, which is typically superior in digestible energy content to Sorghum.forages. There is also a lack of inform.tion on the feeding value of Sorghum.silages in high producing dairy cows as well as strategies that m.y be used for sorghum.silage to replace a portion of the corn silage in dairy cattle diets.
