Geospatial approach to elucidate anomalies in the hierarchical organization of drainage network in Kuttiyadi River Basin, Southern India

An assessment of anomalies in the hierarchical organization of the drainage network in the Kuttiyadi River Basin(KuRB),Kerala,has been performed by considering various morphometric parameters such as bifurcation index(R),hierarchical anomaly index(Δa),hierarchical anomaly density(ga),and stream gradient index(SL)in a geographical information system(GIS)***,a digital elevation model(DEM)of the area has been generated from Cartosat stereo pair data at 2.5-m *** computed quantitative information about drainage characteristics reveals the highest drainage anomaly is observed in sub-watersheds(SW)III and *** is observed that neo-tectonic activity caused the development of younger stage drainage patterns of structural controls in the sub-watersheds of this river *** tectonic activityinduced diffusion,high energy fluvial erosion,and anthropogenic interferences altered the hierarchical organization of the drainage network of the sub-watersheds in mature to old stages of geomorphic *** results of finding validated with asymmetry factor and ratio of the hierarchical index(Δa)with hierarchical anomaly number(A),bifurcation index(R),direct bifurcation ratio(Rdb),stream gradient index(SL),and denudation index(logTu).From the denudation index analysis,the sediment yield of the river basin is identified as 0.67 t·km^(−2)·yr^(−1).Moreover,the asymmetric factor(AF)in the KuRB shows the imprints of Paleo−Neo Proterozoic crustal tilting toward a NNW−SSE direction.

Hydro-hypsometric analysis of tropical river basins,Southwest Coast of India using geospatial technology

The key aspect in planning and management of water resources is to analyze the runoff potential and erosion status of the river *** the detailed investigation of hydrological response freely available Cartosat-1(IRS-P5) data was used for the preparation of digital elevation model(DEM).The runoff potential and type of erosive process of 22 river basins originating in the global biodiversity hotspot of Western Ghats,was inferred through hypsometric *** parameters like Hypsometric integral(HI),maximum concavity(Eh),coordinates of slope inflection point(I) given by a* and h* and normalized height of hypsometric curve(h) were extracted from the hypsometric curves and used for understanding the hydrological *** the hypsometric curves,the landform evolution processes were *** of diffusive and fluvial processes in slope degradation of the river basins was *** with lesser area(<100 km^2) were found to have a positive correlation between hypsometric integral and basin area,whereas for large basins no such correlation *** on the study,river basins can be prioritized for the appropriate conservation measures.

Machine-learning based landslide susceptibility modelling with emphasis on uncertainty analysis

Landslide susceptibility maps are vital tools used by decision-makers to adopt mitigation strategies for future *** this context,research on landslide susceptibility modelling has become a topic of relevance and is in constant *** various machine-learning techniques(MLTs)have been identified for landslide susceptibility modelling,the uncertainty inherent in the models is rarely *** present study attempts to quantify the uncertainty associated with landslide prediction models by developing a new methodological framework based on the ensembles of the eight *** methodology has been tested at the highlands of the southern Western Ghats region(Kerala,India),where landslides have frequently been *** landslide conditioning factors have been identified as part of this study,and their association was correlated with 671 historic landslides in the study *** study used four ensemble models such as the mean of probabilities,the median of probabilities,the weighted mean of probabilities,and the committee *** weighted mean of probability was proved to be the best model based on the average of 800 standalone MLTs,viz.,receiver operating characteristics,true skill statistics,and area under curve with corresponding validation ***,an uncertainty analysis was carried out on the coefficient of variation.A confident map was generated to represent the distinct zonation of landslide susceptibility areas with definite uncertainty *** 74%of the past landslides fall in the higher susceptibility-low uncertainty *** is also inferred that such micro-level zonation based on MLTs may improve the efficiency of landslide susceptibility maps and may help in accurately identifying landslide-prone areas in the *** confident maps thus generated can be used as a ready reference to the planners for the formulation of landslide adaptation strategies at micro-scales.

Incidence of exclusive extrapelvic skeletal metastasis in prostate carcinoma on bone scintigraphy

BACKGROUND Bone is one of the common sites of metastasis from prostate *** scintigraphy(BS)is one of the most sensitive imaging modalities currently used for bone metastatic *** metastasis in prostate carcinoma commonly involves pelvic bones but rarely involves extrapelvic-extraspinal *** To retrospectively analyze the BS data to determine the pattern of skeletal metastases in the prostate *** This retrospective observational study involves patients with biopsy-proven prostate carcinoma referred for BS for staging *** with abnormal BS were evaluated for the pattern of skeletal involvement and data were pre-sented in descriptive format in the form of *** A total of 150 patients with biopsy-proven prostate cancer who were referred for staging were included in the *** of 150 patients(8.67%)had no abnormal uptake on planar images,ruling out metastatic ***-four patients(16%)had heterogeneous uptake in the spine with distribution charac-teristic of degenerative disease and no scan pattern of metastatic *** patients(20%)had multifocal uptake involving both pelvic and extra pelvic bones on planar images typical for skeletal metastasis and were considered ***-three out of 150 patients(55.3%)had increased tracer uptake,which was indeterminate,thus,single photon emission computed tomography-computed tomography(SPECT-CT)was acquired,which showed 51 with metastatic disease,31 benign lesions,and one indeterminate *** of 150 patients had exclusive pelvic bone uptake,which was found to be metastatic in 4/7 patients in *** six out of 150 patients showed exclusive extrapelvic tracer uptake,of which only 3 had vertebral metastatic *** of the patients with increased uptake exclusively in the extrapelvic-extraspinal location was *** The incidence of exclusive extrapelvic skeletal metastatic disease in prostate carcinom
