Polymerization of 1,3-Butadiene with Catalysts Based on Cobalt Dichloride Complexes with Aminophosphines: Switching the Regioselectivity by Varying the MAO/Co Molar Ratio

Several novel cobalt dichloride complexes with amino-phosphine bidentate ligands were synthesized and *** some of them single crystals were obtained and their molecular structure was determined by X-ray diffraction *** the complexes were then used in combination with MAO for the polymerization of 1,3-butadiene,obtaining polymers with different structures(i.e.,predominantly 1,2 or cis-1,4)mainly depending on the type of ligand and on the MAO/Co molar *** behavior of these novel catalysts was compared with that exhibited,in the polymerization of the same monomer,by the systems CoCl_(2)(PR3)2-MAO and CoCl_(2)(PRPh2)2-MAO(R=alkyl or cycloalkyl group),and by the systems based on cobalt dichloride complexes with various bi-and tridentate ligands(e.g.,diphosphines,bis-imines,pyridyl-imines,bis-iminopyridines).The comparison between the different systems allowed us to make some clarity about the actual and effective role played by the various types of ligands in the polymerization of conjugated dienes with catalytic systems CoCl_(2)(L)-MAO,in which L=mono-,bi-,or tri-dentate ligand.

Alcoholic liver disease encompasses a broad spectrum of diseases ranging from steatosis steatohepatitis,fibrosis,and cirrhosis to hepatocellular ***-four per cent of all deaths from cirrhosis are attributed to *** liver disease is the second most common diagnosis among patients undergoing liver transplantation(LT).The vast majority of transplant programmes(85%)require 6 mo of abstinence prior to transplantation;commonly referred to as the"6-mo rule".Both in the case of progressive end-stage liver disease(ESLD)and in the case of severe acute alcoholic hepatitis(AAH),not responding to medical therapy,there is a lack of evidence to support a 6-mo sobriety *** is necessary to identify other risk factors that could be associated with the resumption of alcohol ***"Group of Italian Regions"suggests that:in a case of ESLD with model for end-stage liver disease<19 a 6-mo abstinence period is required;in a case of ESLD,a 3-mo sober period before LT may be more ideal than a 6-mo period,in selected patients;and in a case of severe AAH,not respond-ing to medical therapies(up to 70%of patients die within 6 mo),LT is mandatory,even without achieving *** multidisciplinary transplant team must include an addiction specialist/*** have to participate in self-help groups.

How to impute study-specific standard deviations in metaanalyses of skewed continuous endpoints?

AIM: To compare four methods to approximate mean and standard deviation(SD) when only medians and interquartile ranges are ***: We performed simulated meta-analyses on six datasets of 15, 30, 50, 100, 500, and 1000 trials, respectively. Subjects were iteratively generated from one of the following seven scenarios: five theoretical continuous distributions [Normal, Normal(0, 1), Gamma, Exponential, and Bimodal] and two real-life distributions of intensive care unit stay and hospital stay. For each simulation, we calculated the pooled estimates assembling the study-specific medians and SD approximations: Conservative SD, less conservative SD, mean SD, or interquartile range. We provided a graphical evaluation of the standardized *** show which imputation method produced the best estimate, we ranked those differences and calculated the rate at which each estimate appeared as the best, second-best, third-best, or ***: Our results demonstrated that the best pooled estimate for the overall mean and SD was provided by the median and interquartile range(mean standardized estimates: 4.5 ± 2.2, P = 0.14) or by the median and the SD conservative estimate(mean standardized estimates: 4.5 ± 3.5, P = 0.13). The less conservative approximation of SD appeared to be the worst method, exhibiting a significant difference from the reference method at the 90% confidence level. The method that ranked first most frequently is the interquartile range method(23/42 = 55%), particularly when data were generated according to the Standard Normal, Gamma, and Exponential distributions. The second-best is the conservative SD method(15/42 = 36%), particularly for data from a bimodal distribution and for the intensive care unit stay variable. CONCLUSION: Meta-analytic estimates are not significantly affected by approximating the missing values of mean and SD with the correspondent values for median and interquartile range.

Background:Serotoninergic pathways underlying delusion symptoms in Alzheimer’s disease(AD)have not been fully clarified.5-Hydroxytryptamine transporter gene-linked polymorphic region(5-HTTLPR)is a variable number tandem repeats in the promoter region of serotonin transporter encoding-gene affecting ***:We investigated the association of 5-HTTLPR with delusions in a total of 257 consecutive patients clinically diagnosed as AD according to the National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer’s Association *** participants underwent a comprehensive evaluation with a standardized comprehensive geriatric assessment and Neuropsychiatric ***:Delusion symptoms were observed in 171 patients(66.54%).In respect to AD patients without delusions,AD patients with delusions showed a low prevalence of S-plus carriers(5-HTTLPR-L/S+5-HTTLPR-S/S genotypes)[p<0.001;odds ratio(OR)=0.240,95% confidence interval(CI)=0.121–0.471].Logistic regression analysis adjusted for the apolipoprotein E polymorphism showed that in AD patients with delusions the presence of an 5-HTTLPR-S allele may reduce disease duration(p=0.005;OR=0.680,95% CI=0.522–0.886)and increase aberrant motor activity(p=0.013;OR=2.257,95% CI=1.195–4.260).The present findings suggested that 5-HTTLPR might be associated with delusions in AD.S-plus carriers might be associated with protective effect against delusions in ***:More studies on wider samples of high selected demented patients are needed to confirm our ***,the present findings suggested that a genetic factor related to serotonin metabolism might exert a protective role on the clinical expression of neuropsychiatric clusters in AD with important implications regarding mechanisms underlying delusions and their possible treatment across the AD and dementia spectrum.
