The belt and Road Initiative in China＇s Emerging Grand Strategy of Connective Leadership

As Chinese leaders endeavor to maintain the international environment aligned withtheir strategic aim of realizing the ＂＇dream of national rejuvenation, ＂＇ the remarkableincrease in China ＂s capabilities, coupled with uncertainty in the global economy and theambivalent attitude of the USA toward the international order, poses fresh challenges tobeijing＇s foreign policy. The present paper argues that a lexicographic preference for themitigation of the risk of pushback against China＇s core interests underpins the belt andRoad Initiative. Pursuing a strategy of credible reassurance commensurate to the shift inthe distribution of power in China＇s neighborhood and globally, President Xi Jinping＇sadministration has been cultivating a form of connective leadership that commits Chinato the encapsulation of the belt and Road Initiative for transregional connectivity intoits own national development strategy, generating an octroye, non-hegemonic, type ofinternational social capital and integrating the existing order without corroborating theposition of its founder.

The belt and Road Initiative （bRI） is increasingly regarded as beijing＇s most ambitiousforeign policy proposition since Deng Xiaoping set China on a path of reform, openingup and maintaining a low profile in international affairs in the early 1980s. While it isstill in the process of being fully articulated, the bRI may be viewed as an overarchingpolitical vision conferring strategic quality to a set of policy streams that aim to advancetransregional multilayered connectivity across Eurasia and Africa, and thereby establisha dynamic of development cross-acceleration between these regions and China.

This paper analyzed the consistency of some parameters of soils in the literature and experimental results from fall cone test and its application to soil plasticity *** 500 data from both literatures and experiments using fall cone and Casagrande methods were compiled to assess the relationships among specified water content,cone penetration index ebT,and plasticity angle eaT of finegrained *** results indicate that no unique correlation exists among b,liquid limit of the fall cone test(LLc)and *** water content at 1 mm cone penetration eC0T correlates well with b,plasticity ratio eRpT(*** ratio of plastic limit to liquid limit),and ***,the potential of using the btan a diagram to classify soil plasticity was also discussed.

Ethylene copolymers with different polar comonomers,such as vinyl acetate,methyl acrylate,glycidyl methacrylate,and maleic anhydride,were used for the preparation of polymer/clay nanocomposites by statically annealing their mechanical mixtures with different commercial or home-made organically modified montmorillonites containing only one long alkyl *** nanostructure of the products was monitored by X-ray diffraction,and the dispersion of the silicate particles within the polymer matrix was qualitatively evaluated through microscopic *** effect of the preparation conditions on the structure and the morphology of the composites was also addressed through the characterization of selected samples with similar composition prepared by melt *** agreement with the findings reported in a previous paper for the composites filled with two-tailed organoclays,intercalation of the copolymer chains within the tighter galleries of the one-tailed clays occurs easily,independent of the application of a mechanical ***,the shear-driven break-up of the intercalated clay particles into smaller platelets(exfoliation)seems more hindered.A collapse of the organoclay interlayer spacing was only observed clearly for a commercial one-tailed organoclay-Cloisite®30b–whereas the same effect was almost negligible for a home-made organoclay with similar structure.

This paper analyzes an open pit gold mine project based on the O'Hara cost model. Hypothetical data is proposed based on different authors that have studied open pit gold projects, and variations are proposed according to the probability distributions associated to key variables affecting the NPV, like production level, ore grade, price of ore, and others, so as to see what if, in a gold open pit mine project of 3000 metric tons per day of ore. Two case scenarios were analyzed to simulate the NPV, one where there is low certainty data available, and the other where the information available is of high certainty. Results based on genetic algorithm metaheuristic simulations, which combine basically Montecarlo simulations provided by the Palisade Risk software, the O'Hara cost model, net smelter return and financial analysis tools offered by Excel are reported, in order to determine to which variables of the project is more sensitive the NPV.

Early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease(PD):how we can improve the therapeutic approach:PD is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor dysfunctions(tremor,rigidity,bradykinesia and impaired posture/balance)elicited by selective depletion of dopaminergic(DA)neurons in substantia nigra pars *** neuron loss is associated with neuronal inclusions of the phosphorylatedα-synuclein protein called Lewy body(Shults,2006).Although the underlying neurodegenerative process is not affected,the management of PD patients has been revolutionized with the introduction of levodopa and DA drugs in the routine therapy,which ensures initial symptomatic relief of motor functions through the DA supply in the nigrostriatal *** drugs are currently the best option for treating PD,although their chronic use is associated with progressive dopamine resistance and loss of effectiveness in the recovery of motor *** therapeutic strategies,including agonists of DA receptors,monoamine oxide b inhibitors,and even deep brain stimulation techniques have been developed to overcome these clinical ***,these therapeutic approaches cannot restore PD-compromised functions,as irreversible DA neurodegeneration has occurred in substantia nigra pars compacta when first motor symptoms *** nigrostriatal system is traditionally considered as the first region affected by neuronal impairment in Parkinsonisms;however,α-synuclein aggregation appears in a pre-motor stage of the disease in the enteric nervous system(ENS).
