The belt and Road Initiative （bRI） is increasingly regarded as beijing＇s most ambitiousforeign policy proposition since Deng Xiaoping set China on a path of reform, openingup and maintaining a low profile in international affairs in the early 1980s. While it isstill in the process of being fully articulated, the bRI may be viewed as an overarchingpolitical vision conferring strategic quality to a set of policy streams that aim to advancetransregional multilayered connectivity across Eurasia and Africa, and thereby establisha dynamic of development cross-acceleration between these regions and China.

Aim： To determine whether the surgical straightening of congenital penile curvature can improve intromission comfort, penile features, personal relationships and psychogenic erectile dysfunction （ED）. Methods： Fifty-four patients （mean age 24 years, range 20-31 years） whose congenital penile deviation due to physiological curvature was ≥ 25 degrees, as measured on a graph, and who were experiencing penetration discomfort were assessed specifically for the present study. Of these, 14 patients suffered from psychogenic ED. The assessment included a case history, an objective examination, a pharmacologically-induced erection with prostaglandin E1 10-20 g, a graph taken during erection, a basal and dynamic Duplex ultrasonograph, penile length measurement, nocturnal penile tumescence recording, hormonal profiles and a psychological interview to evaluate the quality of their personal relationships according to Hinde＇s parameters （contents, number, features, frequency, ability to perceive limits of mutuality, subjective perception of the other person[s], and reliability）. All patients underwent the Nesbit procedure. The initial assessment was repeated at 3 and 12 months after surgery. Data analyses were carried out using the z test. Results： Subjective judgement of cosmetic penile features and vaginal intromission comfort improved significantly after surgery whereas the quality of personal relationships and ED did not. Conclusion： The surgical straightening of congenital penile curvature improved intromission comfort and penile features, but it failed to improve interpersonal relationships or psychogenic ED.

The interaction of regular quasi-monochromatic waves with a weakly submerged rectangular shelf is studied by means of CFD simulations. The fundamental incident wave frequency is kept constant for the full set of simulated cases, while the incident wave amplitude is made increase progressively, so that the interaction with the shelf is dominated by almost inviscid non-linear flow for the smallest and by breaking for the highest incident waves. A parameter identification（PI） procedure is used to adapt a reduced model to the highly resolved time-space matrix of wave elevations obtained from the numerical simulations, on the weather and lee side respectively. In particular the wave number and the frequency of the component waves in the reduced model are left uncoupled, thus computed by the PI independently. The comparison of simulated data with experiments generally shows a very good agreement. Free/locked, incident/reflected, first/higher order wave components are quantified accurately by the PI and the energy transfer to super-harmonics is clearly evidenced. Moreover the results of the PI show clearly a very large increase in the phase speed of the higher order free waves on the lee side of the shelf, with increasing deviation from the linear behavior with increasing incident wave amplitude.

In technologies operating at light wavelengths for wireless communication,sensor networks,positioning,and ranging,a dynamic coherent control and manipulation of light fields is an enabling element for properly generating and correctly receiving free-space optical(FSO)beams even in the presence of unpredictable objects and turbulence in the light *** this work,we use a programmable mesh of Mach-Zehnder(MZI)interferometers to automatically control the complex field radiated and captured by an array of optical *** implementation of local feedback control loops in each MZI stage,without global multivariable optimization techniques,enables an unlimited *** functionalities are demonstrated,including the generation of perfectly shaped beams with nonperfect optical antennas,the imaging of a desired field pattern through an obstacle or a diffusive medium,and the identification of an unknown obstacle inserted in the FSO *** to conventional devices used for the manipulation of FSO beams,such as spatial light modulators,our programmable device can self-configure through automated control strategies and can be integrated with other functionalities implemented onto the same photonic chip.

This paper describes the application of fiber bragg grating （FbG） based sensors for monitoring road pavement strains caused by mining induced ground subsidence as a result of underground longwall coal mining beneath a major highway in New South Wales, Australia. After a lengthy planning period, the risks to the highway pavement were successfully managed by the highway authority and the mining company through a technical committee. The technical committee comprised representatives of the mining company, the highway authority and specialists in the fields of pavement engineering, geotechnical engineering and subsidence. An important component of the management strategy is the installation of a total of 840 strain and temperature sensors in the highway pavement using FbG arrays encapsulated in glass-fiber composite cables. The sensors and associated demodulation equipment provide continuous strain measurements along the pavement, enabling on-going monitoring of the effects of mining subsidence on the pavement and timely implementation of planned mitigation and response measures to ensure the safety and serviceability of the highway throughout the mining period.

The widespread diffusion of renewable energy sources calls for the development of high-capacity energy storage systems as the A-CAES(Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage)*** this framework,low temperature(100℃–200℃)A-CAES(LT-ACAES)systems can assume a key role,avoiding some critical issues connected to the operation of high temperature *** this paper,two different LT-ACAES configurations are *** two configurations are characterized by the same turbomachines and compressed air storage section,while differ in the TES section and its integration with the *** particular,the first configuration includes two separated cycles:the working fluid(air)cycle and the heat transfer fluid(HTF)*** heat exchangers connect the two cycles allowing to recover thermal energy from the compressors and to heat the compressed air at the turbine *** different HTFs were considered:air(case A)and thermal oil(case b).The second configuration is composed of only one cycle,where the operating fluid and the HTF are the same(air)and the TES section is composed of three different packed-bed thermal storage tanks(case C).The tanks directly recover the heat from the compressors and heat the air at each turbine inlet,avoiding the use of heat *** LT-ACAES systems were modelled and simulated using the ASPEN-Plus and the MATLAb-Simulink *** main aim of this study was the detailed analysis of the reciprocal influence between the turbomachinery and the TES system;furthermore,the performance evaluation of each plant was carried out assuming both on-design and off-design operating ***,the different configurations were compared through the main performance parameters,such as the round-trip efficiency.A total power output of around 10 MW was set,leading to a TES tank volume ranging between 500 and 700 m^(3).The second configuration with three TES systems appears to be the most promising in terms of round-trip efficiency

It is generally admitted that experimental data obtained in“laboratory-scale”bubble columns are representative of“industrial-scale”reactors if the well-known three“Wilkinson et ***-up criteria”are satisfied:(a)the diameter of the bubble column is larger than 0.15 m,(b)the sparger openings are larger than 1e2mm and(c)the aspect ratio is larger than *** aim of this communication is to contribute to the existing *** this end,this communication collects relevant experimental investigation and include new experimental data:in particular,we have experimentally studied the combined effect of the aspect ratio(within the range of 1e15)and the sparger design(considering both“coarse”and“fine”spargers)on the gas holdup in a large-diameter and large-scale gas-liquid bubble *** bubble column has been operated both in the batch mode and in the counter-current *** air has been used as the gaseous phase in all the experiments,while the liquid phase has included deionized water and different aqueous solutions of organic(i.e.,ethanol)and inorganic(i.e.,sodium chloride,NaCl)active *** is found that the“Wilkinson et ***-up criteria”are valid for the air-water case in the batch mode for“very-coarse”***,they are no more valid when considering different liquid velocity,and/or aqueous solutions of active agents,and other sparger openings.

In this paper,a new method of dynamic mesh based on two functional controls is used in the continuous guide vane closure,and the three-dimensional numerical simulation is carried out to investigate the transient flow characteristics for a Francis-type reversible pump-turbine in the turbine mode in the load regulation scenario,with the detached eddy simulation(DES)turbulent *** transient flow characteristics during the closure of the guide vanes are illustrated by analyzing the signals of the mass flow,the torque and the pressure fluctuations in the frequency and time-frequency *** is shown by the simulated results that a continuous assessment of the transient flow characteristics during the guide vane closure may be made by using the new method of the dynamic ***,the flow field analysis involves both the onset and the development of the unsteady phenomena progressively based on an organized guide vane closure *** flow pattern in the return channel maintains a relatively stable flow field before the last stage of the closure,as compared with the unstable flow field in other *** identify the unit variation under the fluid-dynamical conditions,the influence of the three-dimensional unsteady flow structures in the passage is analyzed and its evolution during this transient process is characterized by the fluid-dynamics and the spectral analysis.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) includes a variety of histological conditions (ranging from liver steatosis and steatohepatitis, to fibrosis and hepatocarcinoma) that are characterized by an increased fat content within the liver. The accumulation/deposition of fat within the liver is essential for diagnosis of NAFLD and might be associated with alterations in the hepatic and systemic inflammatory state. Although it is still unclear if each histological entity represents a different disease or rather steps of the same disease, inflammatory processes in NAFLD might influence its pathophysiology and prognosis. In particular, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (the most inflamed condition in NAFLDs, which more frequently evolves towards chronic and serious liver diseases) is characterized by a marked activation of inflammatory cells and the upregulation of several soluble inflammatory mediators. Among several mediators, cytokines and chemokines might play a pivotal active role in NAFLD and are considered as potential therapeutic targets. In this review, we will update evidence from both basic research and clinical studies on the potential role of cytokines and chemokines in the pathophysiology of NAFLD.
