We report the use of a terahertz(THz)transparent material,cyclic olefin copolymer(COC or TOPAS),for fabricating a hollow-core antiresonant fiber that provides an electromagnetic wave guidance in the THz regime.A novel fabrication technique to realize a hollow-core antiresonant polymer optical fiber(HC-ARPF)for THz guidance is proposed and *** fiber is directly extruded in a single-step procedure using a conventional fused deposition modeling 3 D *** fiber geometry is defined by a structured nozzle manufactured with a metal 3 D printer,which allows tailoring of the nozzle design to the various geometries of microstructured optical *** possibility to use the HC-ARPF made from TOPAS for guiding in the THz region is theoretically and experimentally assessed through the profile of mode simulation and time-frequency diagram(spectrogram)analysis.

A new and easy-to-fabricate strain sensor has been developed,based on fiber Bragg grating(FBG)technology embedded into a thermoplastic polyurethane filament using a 3-dimensional(3D)*** advantage of the flexibility and elastic properties of the thermoplastic polyurethane material,the embedding of the FBG provides durable protection with enhanced flexibility and sensitivity,as compared to the use of a bare *** of an evaluation of its performance have shown that the FBG sensors embedded in this way can be applied effectively in the measurement of strain,with an average wavelength responsivity of 0.0135 nm/cm of displacement for tensile strain and -0.0142 nm/cm for compressive strain,both showing a linearity value of up to 99%.Furthermore,such an embedded FBG-based strain sensor has a sensitivity of~1.74 times greater than that of a bare FBG used for strain measurement and is well protected and suitable for in-the-field *** is also observed that the thermoplastic polyurethane based(TPU-based)FBG strain sensor carries a sensitivity value of~2.05 times higher than that of the polylactic acid based(PLA-based)FBG strain sensor proving that TPU material can be made as the material of choice as a“sensing”pad for the FBG.

Highly porous nanofoam can be fabricated via multiphoton ablation of a material by raster-scanning femtosecond laser pulses over the material surface. Here, we show the fabrication of nanofoam on the inside surface of a hollow silica capillary that has an inner and outer diameter of 640 and 700 μm respectively. A thin layer of nanofoam was fabricated over ~70% of the inner surface of the capillary. Ray-tracing simulations were used to determine the positional corrections required to account for refraction on the curved surface and also to explain the inability to fabricate nanofoam on the side walls of the capillary.

单模-多模-单模光纤结构是一种基于多模光纤内部模式干涉原理的新型光纤结构,通常由一小段多模光纤焊接到两段标准单模光纤中构成。1995年,***等人率先报道了多模光波导内部的模式干涉、自聚焦及传输光场随着传输距离不断增大而变化等重要理论,并对这些现象进行了详细的理论推导和全面的理论分析。为未来出现的单模-多模-单模光纤结构的出现和发展奠定了理论基础[1]。从2003年起,各国学者开始对单模-多模-单模光纤结构及其应用进行了广泛和深入的研究,产出了丰硕的学术成果[2]-[5]。同时在此结构基础上不断创新发展出一系列新的光纤复合结构[6]-[10]。2011年,利用二氧化碳激光聚焦加热法制备的,拉锥型单模-多模-单模光纤结构首次被报道[11],该结构对于周围环境折射率为1.44附近时,其敏感度可以达到1900nm/RIU,大大简化了高敏感度光纤传感器的制备过程。从2011年起,随着对该拉锥特殊光纤结构的研究不断深入,多种新型的光纤结构不断被提出。本报告将论述拉锥型单模-多模-单模光纤结构的模式干涉基本原理,从传感技术领域的应用方面,综述国内外对于该光纤结构的研究进展及取得的成果,证实拉锥型单模-多模-单模光纤结构在传感领域的重要价值和巨大应用潜力,并对其未来的技术发展趋势进行了展望。

Flowering at the most appropriate times of the year requires careful monitoring of environmental conditions and correct integration of such information with an endogenous molecular network. Rice （Oryza sativa） is a facultative short day plant, and flowers quickly under short day lengths, as opposed to Arabidopsis thaliana whose flowering is accelerated by longer days. Despite these physiological differences, several genes controlling flowering in response to day length （or photoperiod） are conserved between rice and Arabidopsis, and the molecular mechanisms involved are similar. Inductive day lengths trigger expression of florigenic proteins in leaves that can move to the shoot apical meristem to induce reproductivedevelopment. As compared to Arabidopsis, rice also possesses unique factors that regulate expression of florigenic genes. Here, we discuss recent advances in understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in day length perception, production of florigenic signals, and molecular responses of the shoot apical meristem to florigenic proteins.
