Role of copper chelating agents: between old applications and new perspectives in neuroscience

The role of copper element has been an increasingly relevant topic in recent years in the fields of human and animal health, for both the study of new drugs and innovative food and feed supplements. This metal plays an important role in the central nervous system, where it is associated with glutamatergic signaling, and it is widely involved in inflammatory processes. Thus, diseases involving copper(Ⅱ) dyshomeostasis often have neurological symptoms, as exemplified by Alzheimer's and other diseases(such as Parkinson's and Wilson's diseases). Moreover, imbalanced copper ion concentrations have also been associated with diabetes and certain types of cancer, including glioma. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive overview of recent results that show the importance of these metal ions in several pathologies, mainly Alzheimer's disease, through the lens of the development and use of copper chelators as research compounds and potential therapeutics if included in multi-target hybrid drugs. seeing how copper homeostasis is important for the well-being of animals as well as humans, we shortly describe the state of the art regarding the effects of copper and its chelators in agriculture, livestock rearing, and aquaculture, as ingredients for the formulation of feed supplements as well as to prevent the effects of pollution on animal productions.

The colours of metals have attracted the attention of humanity since ancient times,and coloured metals,in particular gold compounds,have been employed for tools and objects symbolizing the aesthetics of *** this work,we develop a comprehensive framework to obtain the reflectivity and colour of metals,and show that the trends in optical properties and the colours can be predicted by straightforward first-principles techniques based on standard *** apply this to predict reflectivity and colour of several elemental metals and of different types of metallic compounds(intermetallics,solid solutions and heterogeneous alloys),considering mainly binary alloys based on noble *** validate the numerical approach through an extensive comparison with experimental data and the photorealistic rendering of known coloured metals.

Materials property prediction for limited datasets enabled by feature selection and joint learning with MODNet

In order to make accurate predictions of material properties,current machine-learning approaches generally require large amounts of data,which are often not available in *** this work,MODNet,an all-round framework,is presented which relies on a feedforward neural network,the selection of physically meaningful features,and when applicable,*** to being faster in terms of training time,this approach is shown to outperform current graph-network models on small *** particular,the vibrational entropy at 305 K of crystals is predicted with a mean absolute test error of 0.009 meV/K/atom(four times lower than previous studies).Furthermore,joint learning reduces the test error compared to single-target learning and enables the prediction of multiple properties at once,such as temperature ***,the selection algorithm highlights the most important features and thus helps to understand the underlying physics.

Diagnostic detection with cardiac tomography and resonance of extremely rare coronary anomaly:A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND The association of two congenital coronary artery anomalies(CAAs) is extremely rare but represents one of the main cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes. Although coronary angiography(CX-A) is still widely used in childhood, cardiac magnetic resonance(C-MRI) and cardiac computed tomography(C-CT) have recently taken on an increasing diagnostic role in early detection of CAAs and concomitant congenital cardiac *** SUMMARY A healthy 10-year-old male patient was referred to the Radiological Department of our Institution due to no evidence of left coronary artery in echocardiographic examination. With C-MRI was detected marked myocardial trabeculation and was suspected anomalous origin and course of left circumflex(lCx) artery and of left anterior descending(lAD) artery. With third generation Dual Source C-CT192x2-sections(SOMATOM Force, Siemens, Germany) was confirmed anomalous origin of lCx artery from right pulmonary artery associated with anomalous origin of lAD artery from right coronary artery with course in front of right ventricular outflow tract. The patient underwent surgical treatment with reimplantation of the anomalous lCX and lAD arteries into the wall of ascending aorta, with no postoperative complications. The patient remained asymptomatic and follow-up C-MRI scan four months after operation showed complete success of surgery *** This case highlights the diagnostic potential of C-CT and C-MRI in evaluation of CAAs and of cardiac morphology and functionality, with very low radiation dose and without the risks related to invasive procedure.

In several applications, such as collision avoidance, it is necessary to have a system able to rapidly detect the simultaneous presence of different obstacles. In general, these applications do not require high resolution performance, but it is necessary to assure high system reliability also within critical scenarios, as in the case of partially transparent atmosphere or environment in presence of multiple objects(implying multiple echoes having different delay times.) This paper describes the algorithm, the architecture and the implementation of a digital light Detection and Ranging(lIDAR) system based on a chirped optical carrier. This technique provides some advantages compared to the pulsed approach, primarily the reduction of the peak power of the laser. In the proposed architecture all the algorithms for signal processing are implemented using digital hardware. In this way, some specific advantages are obtained: improved detection performance(larger dynamics, range and resolution), capability of detecting multiple obstacles having different echoes amplitude, reduction of the noise effects, reduction of the costs, size and weight of the resulting equipment. The improvement provided by this fully digital solution is potentially useful in different applications such as: collision avoidance systems, 3D mapping of environments and, in general, remote sensing systems which need wide distance and dynamics.

Assessment of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth in uncomplicated acute diverticulitis of the colon

AIM: Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) maycontribute to the appearance of several gastrointestinal nonspecific symptoms. Acute diverticulitis is affected by some similar symptoms and bacterial colonic overgrowth. We assessed the prevalence of SIBO in acute uncomplicated diverticulitis and evaluated its influence on the clinical course of the ***: We studied 90 consecutive patients (39 males, 51 females, mean age 67.2 years, range 32-91 years). Sixty-one patients (67.78%) and 29 patients (32.22%) were affected by constipation-or diarrhea-prevalent diverticulitis respectively. All subjects were investigated by lactulose H2-breath test at the entry and at the end of treatment. We also studied a control group of 20 healthy subjects (13 males, 7 females, mean age 53 years, range 22-71 years).ReSUlTS: Oro-cecal transit time (OCTT) was delayed in67/90 patients (74.44%) (range 115-210 min, mean 120 min). Fifty-three of ninety patients (58.88%) showed SIBO, while OCTT was normal in 23/90 patients (25, 56%). In the control group, the mean OCTT was 88.2 min (range 75-135 min). The difference between diverticulitic patients and healthy subjects was statistically significant (P＜0.01). OCTT was longer in constipation-prevalent disease than in diarrheaprevalent disease [180.7 min (range 150-210 min) vs 121 min (range 75-180 min) (P＜0.001)], but no difference in bacterial overgrowth was found between the two forms of *** treatment with rifaximin plus mesalazine for 10 d, followed by mesalazine alone for 8 wk, 70 patients (81.49%) were completely asymptomatic, while 16 patients (18.60%) showed only slight symptoms. Two patients (2.22%) had recurrence of diverticulitis, and two other patients (2.22%) were withdrawn from the study due to side-effects. seventy-nine of eighty-six patients (91.86%) showed normal OCTT (range 75-105 min, mean 83 min), while OCTT was longer, but it was shorter in the remaining seven (8.14%) patients (range 105-115 min

effect of Milling and Parboiling Processes on Arsenic Species Distribution in Rice Grains

This study identified the role of milling and parboiling on arsenic(As)content and its species in large numbers of rice *** As contents were 108±33μg/kg in polished rice grains(PR),159±46μg/kg in unpolished rice grains(UR),145±42μg/kg in parboiled polished rice grains(PPR)and 145±44μg/kg in parboiled unpolished rice grains(PUR).The percentages of inorganic As(iAs)were 66%±8%in PR and from 72%to 77%in other grain *** polishing process reduced the As content in the rice grains,removing outer part of the UR with high amount of As,whereas the parboiling technique transferred the semimetal content within the *** As and iAs contents were not significantly different in UR,PPR and PUR,homogenizing its distribution inside the *** results allowed to understand how different operations affect As fate and its chemical forms in grains.

Is Takotsubo cardiomyopathy still looking for its own nosological identity?
