Different methods to detect boundary layer transition are investigated within the scope of this paper. Laminar and turbulent boundary layers exhibit a significantly different behavior, not only regarding skin friction but also for heat-transfer which affects the blade cooling design. The present work presents a novel and non-intrusive measurement technique to detect the transition, based on acoustic concepts. The reliability of the technique was investigated by means of boundary layer measurements over a fiat plate in subsonic flow conditions. After a preliminary assessment with a conventional Preston tube, a row of microphones were installed along the plate to correlate transition pressure fluctuations. To provide a comprehensive representation of the experiment, dedicated measurements with a fast response aerodynamic pressure probe were performed to determine the turbulence intensity and the dissipation rate upstream of the flat plate. The experimental results were systematically compared with calculations performed with three different computational fluid dynamics solvers （ANSYS-Fluent, ANSYS-CFX, OpenFOAM） and using both the k-k1-ω and the γ-Reθ transition models. Results show a fair agreement between CFD （computational fluid dynamics） predictions and the acoustic technique, suggesting that this latter might represent an interesting alternative option for transition measurements.

The present study investigated for the first time some physical quality attributes of unripe Citrus x myrtifolia Rafinesque which is the ingredient of the popular soft drink Chinotto. Samples for analysis were processed to better reproduce the crude materials used for industrial chinotto extract, discarding part of the juice. Fruit bioactive compounds such as ascorbic acid, carotenoids, chlorophylls, flavonoids and antioxidant capacity were estimated. An important nutritional aspect arose from the data presented was the high concentration of flavonoids (780 mg/100 g FW) and vitamin C (42 mg/100 g FW). A good antioxidant capacity (5872 μM Trolox equivalents/100 g FW) was estimated by oxygen radical absorbing capacity (ORAC). This matrix could be considered as a good nutraceutical source, giving new opportunity to citrus industry.

AIM:To evaluate the association between liver stiffness(LS) prior to the initiation of dual/triple therapy and viral ***:LS was measured in all patients before treatment was *** therapeutic approach was based on hepatic,virological,and immunological evaluations and considered the fact that patients with severe fibrosis(F3)or compensated cirrhosis(F4)in Child-Pugh class A are the primary candidates for triple *** total,65 hepatitis C virus(HCV)patients were treated with Peg-interferon/ribavirin(Peg-IFN/RBV);24patients were classified as genotypes 1/4(36.92%),and41 patients were classified as genotypes 2/3(63.08%)(dual therapy).In addition,20 HCV treatment-experienced genotype 1 patients were treated with Peg IFN-RBV and boceprevir(triple therapy).Wilcoxon rank-sum tests were used to compare the ***:LS significantly differed between dual therapy and triple therapy(P=0.002).The mean LS value before dual therapy treatment was 8.61±5.79k Pa and was significantly different between patients achieving a sustained virologic response(SVR)24weeks after therapy and those who did not(7.23±5.18 k Pa vs 11.72±5.99 k Pa,respectively,P=0.0003).The relative risk of non-response to therapy was 4.45(95%CI:2.32-8.55).The attributable risk of non-response to therapy was 49%.The mean LSvalue before triple therapy treatment was 13.29±8.57k Pa and was significantly different between patients achieving and not achieving SVR24(9.41±5.05 vs19.11±9.74,respectively;P=0.008).The relative risk of non-response to therapy was 5.57%(95%CI:1.50-20.65).The attributable risk of non-response to therapy(70%)was increased compared with dual therapy ***-treatment stiffness>12 k Pa was significantly associated with non-SVR(P<0.025)in both ***:Pre-treatment liver stiffness may be useful for predicting the response to treatment in patients treated with either dual or triple anti-HCV therapy.

We report a case of isolated gastrointestinal metastasis from breast Iobular carcinoma, which mimicked primary anal cancer. In July 2000, an 88-year-old woman presented with infiltrating Iobular cancer （pT1/G2/N2）. The patient received postoperative radiotherapy and hormonal therapy. Four years later, she presented with an anal polypoid lesion. The mass was removed for biopsy. Immunohistochemical staining suggested a breast origin. Radiotherapy was chosen for this patient, which resulted in complete regression of the lesion. The patient died 3 years after the first manifestation of gastrointestinal metastasis. According to the current literature, we consider the immunohistochemistry features that are essential to support the suspicion of gastrointestinal breast metastasis, and since we consider the gastrointestinal involvement as a sign of systemic disease, the therapy should be less aggressive and systemic.

Atherosclerosis manifests itself clinically at advanced stages when plaques undergo hemorrhage and/or rupture with superimposed thrombosis, thus abruptly stopping blood supply. Identification of markers of plaque destabilization at a pre-clinical stage is, therefore, a major goal of cardiovascular research. Promising results along this line were provided by studies investigating the lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2(Lp-PLA2), a member of phospholipase A2 proteins family that plays a key role in the metabolism of pro-inflammatory phospholipids, as oxidized low-density lipoproteins, and in the generation of pro-atherogenic metabolites, including lysophosphatidylcholine and oxidized free fatty acids. We herein review the experimental and clinical studies supporting use of Lp-PLA2 activity for predicting cardiovascular events. To his end we considered not only Lp-PLA2 activity and mass, but also Lp-PLA2 gene variations and their association with incident coronary artery disease, stroke, and cardiovascular mortality. Based on these evidences the major scientific societies have included in their guidelines the measurement of Lp-PLA2 activity among the biomarkers that are useful in risk stratification of adult asymptomatic patients at intermediate cardiovascular risk. The results of two recently published major clinical trials with the LpPLA2 inhibitor darapladib, which seem to challenge the pathogenic role of Lp-PLA2, will also be discussed.
