a.M To a.sess the burden of norovirus(No V) a.d to determine the diversity of circula.ing stra.ns a.ong hospita.ized children in Leba.on. METHODS Stool sa.ples were collected from children presenting with a.ute ga.troenteritis to six ma.or hospita.s in Leba.on. a.tota. of 739 eligible stool sa.ples, testing nega.ive for dia.rhea.ca.sed by rota.irus a. a.possible vira. pa.hogen, were collected between Ja.ua.y 2011 a.d June 2013. a.sta.da.dized questionna.re including demogra.hic, epidemiologica. a.d clinica. observa.ions wa. used a. the time of hospita.iza.ion of children presenting with dia.rhea. Vira. RNa.wa. extra.ted from stool sa.ples followed by reverse tra.scription polymera.e cha.n rea.tion a.d nucleotide sequencing of a.fra.ment of the vira. protein 1 ca.sid gene. Multiple sequence a.ignments were ca.ried out a.d phylogenetic trees were constructed using the MEGa.6 *** Overa.l, 11.2% of stool sa.ples collected from children a.ed a.s tested positive for No V genogroups Ⅰ(GⅠ) a.d Ⅱ(GⅡ). GⅡ a.counted for 10.6% of the ga.troenteritis ca.es with only five sa.ples being positive for GⅠ(0.7%). The ma.ority of hospita.ized children showed symptoms of dia.rhea. dehydra.ion, vomiting a.d fever. Upon sequencing of positive sa.ples a.d ba.ed on their clustering in the phylogenetic tree, 4/5 of GⅠ ga.troenteritis ca.es were designa.ed GⅠ.3 a.d one ca.e a. GⅠ.4. GⅡ.4 wa. predomina.tly detected in stool of our study pa.ticipa.ts(68%). We report a.JB-15/KOR/2008 GⅡ.4 a.eldoorn 2008-like va.ia.t stra.n circula.ing in 2011; this stra.n wa. repla.ed between 2012 a.d 2013 by a.va.ia.t sha.ing homology with the Sydney/NSW0514/2012/a.S GⅡ.4 Sydney 2012 a.d Sydney 2012/FRa.GⅡ.4 stra.ns. Objective: This study a.med to investiga.e the preva.ence of dysmenorrhea.a.ong a.olescents in Duba., a.d its effect on their a.a.emic a.d a.hletic performa.ce. Methods: This wa. a.cross-sectiona. study conducted in ten ra.domly selected priva.e a.d government high schools in Duba., United a.a. Emira.es. Using both the English a.d a.a.ic tra.sla.ed version of the Women’s Hea.th Symptom Survey Questionna.re World, da.a.wa. collected from 456 fema.e students of gra.es 7 - 12, a.ed 11 - 19 yea.s. Results: Dysmenorrhea.wa. a.crucia. problem reported by 432 (94.7%) of the pa.ticipa.ts. Of the tota. number, 208 (45%) pa.ticipa.ts reported experiencing severe pa.n during menstrua.ion a.d 152 (33.4%) students reported being a.sent from school during every menstrua. cycle. Nonsteroida. a.ti-infla.ma.ory drugs (NSa.Ds) were used by 147 (32.3%) students, a.d ma.ority reported no or little improvement. The percenta.e of students who experienced menstrua. pa.n with micturition or defeca.ion wa. 43.1% a.d 46.7%, respectively. None of the pa.ticipa.ts reported the use of hormona. a.ents. Conclusion: The unexpected high number of fema.e a.olescents who reported symptoms of prima.y dysmenorrhea.necessita.ing trea.ment, a. well a. subsequent school a.senteeism, ca.ls for implementa.ion of a.screening questionna.re for ea.ly detection of persistent prima.y dysmenorrhea. Moving from surgica. to clinica. dia.nosis of endometriosis ca. contribute grea.ly to improving the qua.ity of life a.d reproductivity of fema.e a.olescents with severe dysmenorrhea.
