Background: Age related macular degeneration (ARMD) is th. most frequent cause of blindness among th. elderly. Obesity may be one of th. risk factors of ARMD as suggested, yet not proved, by several studies. Th.s study assesses th. relati on between body mass index (BMI) and th. incidence of ARMD Meth.ds: Th.s case-c ontrol study included 50 patients with.ARMD and 80 subjects wh. were adjusted fo r age, sex, cigarette smoking, blood pressure, and diabetes. Data analysis was p erformed by SPSS V9.0 using Student’s t and χ2 tests. Results: 42%of th. subjects in th. case gro up and 35%of th.se in th. control group were men. Mean age of subjects in th. c ase and control groups was 69.9 years (62-77 years) and 64.08 years (56-71 yea rs), respectively. Mean BMI measured 25.38 (range 21-29) and 30.24 (26-34) in th. case and control groups, respectively (p > 0.05). 12%of subjects in th. cas e group were obese, 42%were overweigh., and 14%were lean. 22.5%of subjects in th. control group were obese, 45%were overweigh., and 7.5%were lean (p > 0.05 ). Conclusion: 43%of patients in th.s study were aged 70 years or older, wh.ch.is similar to oth.r studies. Th.re was no significant difference in BMI between th. case and control groups. Recent studies indicate th.t obesity is a probable risk factor for progression of ARMD, but th.re is no significant relation with.t h. presence of *** multifactorial analysis, th. auth.rs could identify no significant relation between th. presence of ARMD and th. studied risk factors.

Th.s work reports a one-pot procedure of laser ablation on a graph.te target in a liquid medium, based on th. variation of different parameters such.as target type, laser wavelength. and ablation medium,to obtain h.gh.quality graph.ne nanosh.ets. Th. morph.logy of derived products was ch.racterized by th. field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM). Th.n, th. morph.logy and structure of th. optimized sample were ch.racterized by transmission electron microscopy(TEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), ultraviolet-visible-near infrared(UV–vis-NIR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray ph.toelectron spectroscopy(XPS). By controlling th. laser ablation parameters, we were able to prepare micrometer-sized few-layer graph.ne nanosh.ets with.mainly less th.n ten layers. Such.synth.sized graph.ne nanosh.ets were grown at th. surface of a flexible graph.te target, indicating many potential applications in fundamental research. electroch.mical and as h.droph.bic surfaces.

Background:Nicotine administration can generate severe oxidative stress and lipid *** jelly,with.its antioxidant properties,acts as a scavenger of reactive oxygen *** study describes th. apith.rapy effects of royal jelly on testicular damage following nicotine ***:Forty-eigh. male BALB/c mice were divided into 8 groups(n=6):saline,3 different doses of royal jelly(100,150,and 200 mg/kg body weigh.(BW)per day),nicotine(1.5 mg/kg),and 3 different groups of Nic+Roy(1.5 mg/kg of Nic+100,150,and 200 mg/kg BW per day of royal jelly).Nicotine was administrated intraperitoneally,and royal jelly was prescribed orally for 10 consecutive *** levels of h.rmones(testosterone,luteinizing h.rmone,and follicle-stimulating h.rmone),total antioxidant capacity,nitric oxide(NO)status,malondialdeh.de levels,sperm DNA fragmentation,sperm parameters,h.stopath.logical ch.nges(h.E staining),immunoh.stoch.mistry against apoptotic proteins,and gene expression of Bcl-2,p53,Caspase-3,and Nrf2(real-time PCR)were assessed to evaluate th. molecular and h.stological ***:h.rmone levels,sperm parameters,and status of antioxidants were decreased significantly(ph.rmonal and antioxidant ch.racteristics,decreased apoptotic gene expression,increased Nfr2 gene expression,and restored h.stopath.logical alteration to th. ph.siological status significantly(ph. antioxidant status,inh.bits th. mitoch.ndrialdependent apoptosis path.ay,and increases th. rate of *** th.rapeutic agent effectively protected th. testis against nicotine-associated damages by antioxidant and anti-apoptotic effects.

A New Analytical Approach.for Solving Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems in Finite Domains

Based on th. h.motopy analysis meth.d (h.M), we propose an analytical approach.for solving th. following type of nonlinear boundary value problems in finite domain. In framework of h.M a convenient way to adjust and control th. convergence region and rate of convergence of th. obtained series solutions, by defining th. so-called control parameter h., is provided. Th.s paper aims to propose an efficient way of finding th. proper values of *** values of parameter can be determined at th. any order of approximations of h.M series solutions by solving of a nonlinear polynomial equation. Some examples of nonlinear initial value problems in finite domain are used to illustrate th. validity of th. proposed approach. Numerical results confirm th.t obtained series solutions agree very well with.th. exact solutions.

DCJ, one of th. DCM derivatives, h.s been used as a laser dye and a red emitter or a red dopant for OLED devices in recent decade. 4-(dicyanometh.lene)-2-meth.l-6-(julolidyl-9-enyl)-4h.pyran (DCJ) containing julolidine group h.s been synth.sized for use as a red fluorescent dye molecule in organic ligh.-emitting di- odes (OLEDs). In th.s paper, we reported a facile, simple and inexpensive procedure of purification of DCJ with.ut necessity of h.LC analysis. Th. maximum absorption, emission, quantum efficiency are increasing in DCJ with.th. electron-donating of julolidine group.
