Living in a High Mountain Border Region:the Case of the'Bhotiyas'of the Indo-Chinese Border Region

This article introduces one of South Asia's most important border regions into academic discourse, namely, the Central Himalayan mountain rim separating India and the Tibetan Autonomous Region (People's Republic of China). What makes this border region so interesting is a tangled interplay of changing environmental, cultural, and political forms to which the local populations constantly have to adapt in order to make a living there. We focused on the so-called 'Bhotiyas' of Uttarakhand, former trans-Himalayan traders whose ethnicity and livelihood was traditionally associated with the Indo-Chinese border that was sealed as a result of the India-China war in 1962. Drawing on the work of borderland scholarship, we identified the key processes and developments that changed the perspective of this area. Competing political aspirations as well as the 'Bhotiyas' countervailing strategies were considered equally important for understanding local livelihoods and identities within the dynamics of a 'high mountain border region'. Through an exemplary analysis of historical differences of power in one 'Bhotiya' valley, we further explored the ways in which shifting socio-spatial constellations are creatively re-interpreted by the borderlanders.

This paper introduces an AC stochastic optimal power flow(SOPF)for the flexibility management of electric vehicle(EV)charging pools in distribution networks under *** AC SOPF considers discrete utility functions from charging pools as a compensation mechanism for eventual energy not served to their charging *** application of the AC SOPF is described where a distribution system operator(DSO)requires flexibility to each charging pool in a day-ahead time frame,minimizing the cost for flexibility while guaranteeing technical *** areas are defined for each charging pool and calculated as a function of a risk parameter involving the uncertainty of the *** show that all players can benefit from this approach,i.e.,the DSO obtains a riskaware solution,while charging pools/tasks perceive a reduction in the total energy payment due to flexibility services.

Integrating flexible electronics for pulsed electric field delivery in a vascularized 3D glioblastoma model

Glioblastoma is a highly aggressive brain tumor,very invasive and thus difficult to eradicate with standard oncology *** treatments based on pulsed electric fields have proven to be a successful method to treat cancerous ***,they rely on stiff electrodes,which cause acute and chronic injuries,especially in soft tissues like the *** we demonstrate the feasibility of delivering pulsed electric fields with flexible electronics using an in ovo vascularized tumor *** show with fluorescence widefield and multiphoton microscopy that pulsed electric fields induce vasoconstriction of blood vessels and evoke calcium signals in vascularized glioblastoma spheroids stably expressing a genetically encoded fluorescence *** of the electric field delivery are compared with the measured influence of electric field effects on cell membrane integrity in exposed tumor *** results confirm the feasibility of flexible electronics as a means of delivering intense pulsed electric fields to tumors in an intravital 3D vascularized model of human glioblastoma.

Transparent microelectrode arrays enable simultaneous electrical recording and optical imaging of neuronal networks in the *** made of the conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)doped with polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS)are transparent;however,device fabrication necessitates specific processes to avoid deterioration of the organic ***,we present an innovative fabrication scheme for a neural probe that consists of transparent PEDOT:PSS electrodes and demonstrate its compatibility with 2-photon *** electrodes show suitable impedance to record local field potentials from the cortex of mice and sufficient transparency to visualize GCaMP6f-expressing neurons underneath the PEDOT:PSS *** results validate the performance of the neural probe,which paves the way to study the complex dynamics of in vivo neuronal activity with both a high spatial and temporal resolution to better understand the brain.

More Rapid Sleep Onset with Lingual-Spray vs Oral-Tablet Delivery Zolpidem

Insomnia and related sleep disorders (somnipathies) affect a large segment of the population, and result in a significant negative impact on quality of life and reduced or lost productivity. The speed of sleep onset is a critical characteristic of successful pharmacotherapeutic intervention for insomnia. Zolpidem, a non-benzodiazepine benzodiazepine receptor agonist (nBzRA) is widely used to treat insomnia. Although not itself a benzodiazepine (BZD), zolpidem has high binding affinity for the benzodiazepine receptor, which acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABAA receptor complex. It therefore increases the neuronal transmembrane influx of Cl- ions, thereby decreasing neuronal excitability and promoting sleep. In this four-way crossover, dose-ranging, multiple-treatment study, a lingual spray formulation of zolpidem was safe and well-tolerated and yielded more rapid pharmacokinetics (mean plasma concentration) and efficacy (visual analog scale and digit symbol substitution test) compared to oral tablets.

Abdominal metastases of primary extremity soft tissue sarcoma: A systematic review

BACKGROUND Despite the fact that about one third of patients with primary localized extremity soft tissue sarcoma(e STS)will develop metastatic disease,abdominal metastases(AM)and retroperitoneal metastases(RM)constitute rare *** is no clear consensus on how to achieve follow-up on patients with primary localized e STS following curative resection,especially regarding the surveillance of potential AM/*** To systematically analyse incidence,diagnosis,treatment and outcome of AM/RM in e STS *** In this systematic review,899 studies available in Pub Med and published between 2000 and 2018 were screened,identifying 17 original articles focused on AM or RM in e *** selection was based on the PRISMA guidelines,using the search terms(abdominal metastasis AND soft tissue sarcoma)and(soft tissue sarcoma metastasis abdomen).All studies published between January 1,2000 and December 31,2018 were *** articles were identified by crosssearching article references,with the final search date being February 18,*** to limited data and the different reporting techniques used,the present review focused on descriptive analysis of the included *** Of the 17 studies included,six original articles reported on incidence±diagnosis,therapy and outcome in AM and RM,whilst three original and eight case reports focused on diagnostic pathway,therapeutic procedures or outcomes without allowing conclusions regarding incidence of AM and *** to the former six studies,incidence of AM ranged from 0.9%-5.6%in patients with miscellaneous histological subtypes,and up to 12.1%in patients with myxoid *** most common histological subtypes that developed AM or RM were(myxoid)liposarcoma and leiomyosarcoma,but also rare subtypes such asepithelioid sarcoma,myxofibrosarcoma,synovial sarcoma,and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour had been reported to develop AM/*** for AM/RM was performed in five of eight case-reports(
