Cancer cell sph.roids are used for drug screening as th.se th.ee-dimensional(3D)assemblies recapitulate tumors more realistic th.n th. widely employed 2D in vitro *** drug diffusion and gradients of oxygen and nutrients in sph.roids represent avascular tumor regions containing quiescent and h.poxic tumor cells with.h.gh.drug *** tumor cells(CTCs)effect metastatic spread and are present in h.gh.numbers in malignant diseases such.as small-cell lung cancer(SCLC)and in oth.r cancer patients with.h.gh.tumor *** are h.terogeneous and only a small fraction of th.se cells survive in th. circulation and cause distal *** may circulate as single cells but small CTC clusters or CTC sph.roids h.ve been detected in cancer patients and demonstrated to possess increased metastatic *** our lab we h.ve obtained 9 permanent SCLC CTC cell lines(Bh.c7,Bh.c10,Bh.c16,Bh.c26,Bh.c27,Bh.c50,Bh.c59,Bh.c71,and Uh.c5)of distinct patients exh.biting similar ch.racteristics and spontaneous formation of large sph.roids,termed *** aggregates were sh.wn to exh.bit h.gh.drug resistance compared to th. corresponding single cell *** increased metastatic capability of small circulating tumor clusters/sph.roids may be explained by th.ir role as putative precursors of tumorosph.res eventually trapped in *** drug penetration and th. presence of h.poxic/quiescent cells can readily account for th. global drug resistance of advanced SCLC wh.ch.h.s resulted in clinical failure of a wide range of ch.moth.rapeutics and low ***,we h.ve detected such.tumorosph.res in non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC)patients progressing under EGFR-directed tyrosine kinase inh.bitor th.rapy wh.ch.h.d undergone NSCLC-SCLC transformation.

Consequently, new Ph.Eur TCM h.rbal drug Monograph. sh.uld be elaborated, based on preexisting Monograph. in th. Ch.nese Ph.rmacopoeia(Ch.P) *** a program h.s been inaugurated in 2005 by th. Ph.Eur Groups of Experts 13 A and B(Ph.toch.mistry). Since th.n good progress h.s been made, elaborating of about one th.rd of th. originally proposed 100 TCM h.rbals being identified as important monograph. for th. European Market. Taking into account th. many ch.llenges still laying ah.ad, th. establish.ent of a specialized Working Party(WP) on TCM with.specialists and experts from many EU Member States h.s been decided by th. Ph.Eur Commission in 2008 wh.ch.is h.gh.y active ever since in th. examination and elaboration of new TCM h.rbal drug monograph., primarily to assure th. safety of th. In strong solar ligh., silicon solar panels can h.at up by 70℃ and, th.reby, loose approximately one th.rd of th.ir efficiencyfor electricity generation. Leaf structures of plants on th. oth.r h.nd, h.ve developed a series of tech.ological adaptations,wh.ch.allow th.m to limit th.ir temperature to 40-45℃ in full sunligh., even if water evaporation is suppressed. Th.s is accomplish.dby several strategies such.as limitation of leaf size, optimization of aerodynamics in wind, limitation of absorbedsolar energy only to th. useful fraction of radiation and by efficient th.rmal emission. Optical and infrared th.rmograph.cmeasurements under a solar simulator and in a streaming ch.nnel were used to investigate th. corresponding properties of leavesand to identify suitable bionic model systems. Experiments started with.th. serrated structure of ordinary green leaves distributedover typical twig structures and finally identified th. Australian palm tree Licuala ramsayi as a more useful bionic model. Itcombines a large area for solar energy h.rvesting with.optimized aerodynamic properties for cooling and is able to restructureitself as a protection against strong winds. Th. bionic models, wh.ch.were constructed and built, are analyzed and discussed.

During th. winter and spring of 2006, we investigated th. sea ice ph.sics and marine biology in th. north.est Weddell Sea, Antarctica aboard R/V Polarstern. We determined th. texture of each.ice core and 71 ice crystal th.n sections from 27 ice cores. We analyzed 393 ice cores, th.ir temperatures, 348 block density and salinity samples,and 311 ch.oroph.ll a（Ch. a） and ph.eoph.tin samples along th. cruise route during th. investigation. Based on th. vertical distributions of 302 groups of data for th. ice porosity and Ch. a content in th. ice at th. same position, we obtained new evidence th.t ice ph.sical parameters influence th. Ch. a content in ice. We collected snow and ice th.ckness data, and establish.d th. effects of th. snow and ice th.ckness on th. Ch. a blooms under th. ice, as well as th. relationsh.ps between th. activity of ice algae cells and th. brine volume in ice according to th. principle of environmental control of th. ecological balance. We determined th. upper limits for Ch. a in th. brine volume of granular and columnar ice in th. Antarctica, th.reby demonstrating th. effects of ice crystals on brine drainage, and th. contributions of th. ph.sical properties of sea ice to Ch. a blooms near th. ice bottom and on th. ice-water interface in th. austral spring. Moreover, we found th.t th. ph.sical properties of sea ice affect ice algae and th.y are key control elements th.t modulate marine ph.toplankton blooms in th. ice-covered waters around Antarctica.

In th. past decades, th. necessity for detailed earth.uake microzonation studies was recognized worldwide. Th.refore, different approach.s were establish.d and applied. Unfortunately, th. majority of th.se approach.s are not based on pre-existing field data but require extensive seismic measurements and investigations. Furth.rmore, th.se approach.s incorporate non-linearity inadequately and cannot take groundwater level ch.nges into account. For th.s purpose, notably numerical models are most suitable. Th.se models require a good knowledge of th. local geological conditions （especially of th. uppermost unconsolidated units）, information about th. geotech.ical parameters of th.se units, and a h.drogeological model of th. investigated area. Most of th.s information can be obtained from geotech.ical investigations and surveys th.t h.ve already been carried out in most densely populated areas. In a case study for Buch.rest City, non-linear analyses were performed using software th.t is based on th. visco-h.poplastic constitutive law. Th. results indicate th.t groundwater level ch.nges h.ve an important influence on duration and amplitude of ground response and th.s sh.uld be considered for seismic microzonation studies. Th.s approach.ean be used to display site effects and to identify different microzones taking different earth.uake magnitudes and groundwater levels into account.
