Algorithm fusion to improve detection of lung cancer on chest radiographs

Purpose-the purpose of this paper is to show an efficient method for the detection of signs of early lung *** image processing algorithms are presented for different types of lesions,and a scheme is proposed for the combination of ***/methodology/approach-A computer aided detection(CAD)scheme was developed for detection of lung *** enables different lesion enhancer algorithms,sensitive to specific lesion subtypes,to be used *** image processing algorithms are presented for the detection of small nodules,large ones,and infiltrated *** outputs are merged,the false detection rate is reduced with four separated support vector machine(SVM)*** classifier input comes from a feature selection algorithm selecting from various textural and geometric features.A total of 761 images were used for testing,including the database of the Japanese Society of Radiological Technology(JSRT).Findings-the fusion of algorithms reduced false positives on average by 0.6 per image,while the sensitivity remained 80 per *** the JSRT database the system man.ged to find 60.2 per cent of lesions at an average of 2.0 false positives per *** effect of using different result evaluation criteria was tested and a difference as high as 4 percentage points in sensitivity was *** system was compared to other published ***/value-the study described in the paper proves the usefulness of lesion enhancement decomposition,while proposing a scheme for the fusion of ***,a new algorithm is introduced for the detection of infiltrated areas,possible signs of lung cancer,n.glected by previous solutions.

Biological treatment of chicken feather waste for improved biogas production

A two-stage system was developed which combines the biological degradation of keratin-rich waste with the production of biogas. Chicken feather waste was treated biologically with a recombinant Bacillus megaterium strain showing keratinase activity prior to biogas production. Chopped, autoclaved chicken feathers （4%, W/V） were completely degraded, resulting in a yellowish fermentation broth with a level of 0.51 mg/mL soluble proteins after 8 days of cultivation of the recombinant strain. During the subsequent anaerobic batch digestion experiments, methane production of 0.35 nm3/kg dry feathers （i.e., 0.4 nm3/kg volatile solids of feathers）, corresponding to 80% of the theoretical value on proteins, was achieved from the feather hydrolyzates, independently of the pre- hydrolysis time period of 1, 2 or 8 days. Cultivation with a native keratinase producing strain, Bacillus licheniformis resulted in only 0.25 mg/mL soluble proteins in the feather hydrolyzate, which then was digested achieving a maximum accumulated methane production of 0.31 nm3/kg dry feathers. Feather hydrolyzates treated with the wild type B. megaterium produced 0.21 nm3 CH4/kg dry feathers as maximum yield.

·AIM: To review existing data for the prevalence of corrected, uncorrected, and inadequately corrected refractive errors and spectacle wear in Hungary.·MEthODS: Data from two nationwide cross-sectional studies were analysed. the Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness study collected population-based representative national data on the prevalence of visual impairment due to uncorrected refractive errors and spectacle coverage in 3523 people aged ≥50y(group I). the Comprehensive Health Test Program of Hungary provided data on the use of spectacles in 80 290 people aged ≥18y(group Ⅱ).·RESULTS: In.group I, almost half of the survey population showed refractive errors for distant vision, about 10% of which were uncorrected(3.2% of all male participants and 5.0% of females). the distance spectacle coverage was 90.7%(91.9% in males;90.2% in females). the proportion of inadequate distance spectacles was found to be 33.1%. Uncorrected presbyopia was found in 15.7% of participants. In all age groups(group Ⅱ), 65.4% of females and 56.0% of males used distance spectacles,and approximately 28.9% of these spectacles were found to be inappropriate for dioptric power(with 0.5 dioptres or more). the prevalence of inaccurate distance spectacles was significantly higher in older age groups(71y and above) in both sexes.·COnCLUSIOn: According to this population-based data, uncorrected refractive errors are not rare in Hungary. Despite recent national initiatives, fur ther steps are required to reduce uncorrected refractive errors and associated n.gative effects on vision, such as avoidable visual impairment.

Stability of turning processes for periodic chip formation

the prediction of chatter vibration is influencedby many known complex phenomena and is uncertain. Wepresent a new effect that can significantly change the sta-bility properties of cutting processes. It is shown that themicroscopic environment of chip formation can have alarge effect on its macroscopic properties. In this work, acombined model of the surface regeneration effect and chipformation is used to predict the stability of turning pro-cesses. In a chip segmentation sub-model, the primaryshear zone is described with a corresponding materialmodel along layers together with the thermodynamicbehavior. the surface regeneration is modeled by the time-delayed differential equation. numerical simulations showthat the time scale of a chip segmentation model is sig-nificantly smaller than the time scale of the turning process;therefore, averaging methods can be used. Chip segmen-tation can decrease the average shear force leading todecreased cutting coefficients because of the non-lineareffects. A proper linearization of the equation of motionleads to an improved description of the cutting *** is shown that chip segmentation may significantlyincrease the stable domains in the stability charts; fur-thermore, by selecting proper parameters, unbounded sta-bility domains can be reached.

Prevalence of refractive errors in Hungary reveals three-fold increase in myopia

AIM:To examine the prevalence and composition of refractive errors in ***:nationwide cross-sectional data collected between 2014 and 2019 were analysed from the Comprehensive Health Screening Program of Hungary,which provided spectacle dioptric power and autorefractometry data for 68227 people(35850 women and 32377 men).their age distribution,18-99y,was similar to the national demographic ***:Of the total population,16.50%of the refractive errors exhibited hyperopia,40.05%emmetropia,and 43.45%*** was 3 times more frequent(58.7%)in younger ages(18-35y of age)compared to older age groups(19.4%of those 56-70y of age;Pgh myopia showed a low prevalence(0.21%),and an increase parallel with ageing(r=0.716;P=0.009).COnCLUSIOn:Myopia is the most frequent refractive error in *** prevalence of myopia is especially increased,up to 2-3 times,in the younger age *** actions need to be taken to reduce the onset of myopia and its associated consequences.

geomorphic investigations in the Medves Area,north Hungary

the Medves Area lies close to the Hungarian-Slovak boundary in north Hungary. Having 'horst-graben-type' geological structure it can be characterised by steeply emerging horst-like hills and between them narrow trenches and deeply dissected erosional valleys. the recent morphology of the Medves Area is determined by four main elements: the structure, the petrographic setting, the exo-genic processes and the anthropogenic effects. In spite of the domination of the Oligocene-Miocene sedimentary rocks great part of the area is covered by Pliocene basalts having either stratovolcanic structure or consisting of only lavas, forming lavaplateaus, small cones, dykes or necks. In spite of the strong denudation their original form dominates yet. the decrease of the sheet of the Medves Plateau was considerable only on the rims by parallel retreat. In the southern part of the Medves Area the evolution of the landscape was determined mainly by exogenic processes. the great density of the valleys is very significant,
