We analyzed the distributional patterns of95 selected species of leptosporangiate ferns inhabiting the Mexican Mountain Component, using grid-cells of one geographical degree as unit areas,applying endemism indices and richness and beta diversity *** data were obtained from several herbaria and specialized *** grid-cells appear to be important for fern species richness, as they contain 35 to 49 *** gridcells are located in the Sierra Madre Oriental(SMO),Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt(TMVB) and the Sierra Madre del Sur(SMS).Mean richness by latitudinal belts of one degree showed that the belts with highest values are related to the TMVB and SMS.A total of 13grid-cells were recognized as important from theperspective of endemism; most of them are located also in the SMO, TMVB and *** richest gridcells coincided with one of the main centres of endemism for ferns obtained in this study, located in the convergence of the southern part of the SMO, the eastern portion of the TMVB and the northern part of the SMS, reflecting the high humidity existing on the mountain slopes facing the Gulf of *** important grid-cells recognized from richness and endemism analyses coincide with Mexican Natural Protected *** beta diversity analysis showed a low degree of similarity among grid-cells, implying a high species replacement, as the result of environmental heterogeneity occurring in the Mexican mountain *** the other hand, the spatial analysis suggested a pattern of phytogeographical regionalization comprising twomain areas: the Mexican Transition Zone and the Mexican Central *** play an important role in the Mexican biodiversity and contributing to the beta diversity of Mexico.

Metaphor in Cinema revisited

The theory of rhetorical figures in cinema is highly problematic, besides it can be considered as outdated as the semiotic theory of cinema,1 yet it is convenient to reexamine the idea of＂cinematographic metaphor＂ in order to throw some light on the dominant idea of cinema as narrative medium. In this paper we will examine：（l） the supposedly existing metaphor of urban and industrial man as sheep at the beginn!ng of Chaplin＇s film Modern Times; and （2） the sequence of the awakening stone lion in Eisenstein＇s Battleship Potemkin as metaphor of the proletarian revolt against czarism. We will arrive to the notion of a purely metaphoric film, which together with Zavattini＇s ideal film showing 90 minutes in the life of a man to whom nothing happens, will helps us draw some conclusions about montage and narrativity in cinema. Especially interesting in this connection is the fact that symbolical shots as the mentioned ones are like description in literature, that is, they have nothing to do neither with the time of the story nor with the time of the discourse.

LP-SVr Model Selection Using an Inexact Globalized Quasi-Newton Strategy

In this paper we study the problem of model selection for a linear programming-based support vector machine for regression. We propose generalized method that is based on a quasi-Newton method that uses a globalization strategy and an inexact computation of first order information. We explore the case of two-class, multi-class, and regression problems. Simulation results among standard datasets suggest that the algorithm achieves insignificant variability when measuring residual statistical properties.

Support Vector-based learning methods are an important part of Computational Intelligence techniques. recent efforts have been dealing with the problem of learning from very large datasets. This paper reviews the most commonly used formulations of support vector machines for regression (SVrs) aiming to emphasize its usability on large-scale applications. We review the general concept of support vector machines (SVMs), address the state-of-the-art on training methods SVMs, and explain the fundamental principle of SVrs. The most common learning methods for SVrs are introduced and linear programming-based SVr formulations are explained emphasizing its suitability for large-scale learning. Finally, this paper also discusses some open problems and current trends.

A Systematic review of Cannabidiol Effects in Coronary Syndromes: Challenges to Clinical Translation

Background: Myocardial ischemia in addition to other several cardiac syndromes represent a pathological proinflammatory state alongside a complex cellular microenvironment that can be modified by using cannabinoids. Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound of cannabis has been recently proposed as an immudomodulatory and cardioprotective drug. Objectives: In this systematic review we sought to clarify and summarize the clinical and preclinical evidence of potential benefit of the use of CBD in coronary syndromes. Methods: We conducted a systematic search and review according to the Preferred reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PrISMA) and review of Animal Data from Experimental Studies (CAMArADES) guidelines, in the electronic database from PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus up to April 2022 using predefined search terms. Pre-specified exclusion and inclusion criteria were considered, finally 11 articles were chosen to be included for this peer review. results: Currently there are no good-quality clinical trials with the use of CBD in acute or chronic coronary syndromes. A total of 11 preclinical studies where prescreened and 5 demonstrated reproducible positive cardiovascular outcomes on in-vivo models treated with CBD. Mechanisms of CBD cardioprotection observed: 1) reduction in oxidative stress and inflammation, 2) activation of adenosine receptors and 3) increased expression of angiotensin type 2-receptor. Experimental models included ischemia/reperfusion injury, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, and metabolic syndrome-like conditions. Conclusion: No clinical recommendation can be issued with the current evidence, on the use of CBD in acute and chronic coronary syndromes. Based on preclinical evidence, we considered there is enough evidence to propose the development of well-designed clinical trials that include CBD in the management of coronary syndromes.

Forecasting the Demand of Short-Term Electric Power Load with Large-Scale LP-SVr

This research studies short-term electricity load prediction with a large-scalelinear programming support vector regression (LP-SVr) model. The LP-SVr is compared with other three non-linear regression models: Collobert’s SVr, Feed-Forward Neural Networks (FFNN), and Bagged regression Trees (BrT). The four models are trained to predict hourly day-ahead loads given temperature predictions, holiday information and historical loads. The models are trained on-hourly data from the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL) region from 2004 to 2007 and tested on out-of-sample data from 2008. Experimental results indicate that the proposed LP-SVr method gives the smallest error when compared against the other approaches. The LP-SVr shows a mean absolute percent error of 1.58% while the FFNN approach has a 1.61%. Similarly, the FFNN method shows a 330 MWh (Megawatts-hour) mean absolute error, whereas the LP-SVr approach gives a 238 MWh mean absolute error. This is a significant difference in terms of the extra power that would need to be produced if FFNN was used. The proposed LP-SVr model can be utilized for predicting power loads to a very low error, and it is comparable to FFNN and over-performs other state of the art methods such as: Bagged regression Trees, and Large-Scale SVrs.
