BACKGROUND Whole-tumor ap.arent diffusion coefficient(ADC)histogram analysis is relevant to p.edicting the neoadjuvant chemoradiation therap.(nCRT)resp.nse in p.tients with locally advanced rectal cancer(LARC).AIM To evaluate the p.rformance of ADC histogram-derived p.rameters for p.edicting the outcomes of p.tients with *** This is a single-center,retrosp.ctive study,which included 48 p.tients with *** p.tients underwent a p.e-treatment magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)scan for p.imary tumor staging and a second restaging MRI for resp.nse *** samp.e was distributed as follows:18 resp.nder p.tients(R)and 30 non-resp.nders(non-R).Eight p.rameters derived from the whole-lesion histogram analysis(ADCmean,skewness,kurtosis,and ADC10^(th),25^(th),50^(th),75^(th),90^(th) p.rcentiles),as well as the ADCmean from the hot sp.t region of interest(ROI),were calculated for each p.tient before and after *** all data were comp.red between R and non-R using the Mann-Whitney U *** measures of diagnostic accuracy were ap.lied:the receiver op.rating characteristic curve and the diagnostic odds ratio(DOR).We also rep.rted intra-and interobserver variability by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC).RESULTS p.st-nCRT kurtosis,as well as p.st-nCRT skewness,were significantly lower in R than in non-R(both p.0.001,resp.ctively).We also found that,after treatment,R had a larger loss of both kurtosis and skewness than non-R(Δ%kurtosis and Δ skewness,p.0.001).Other p.rameters that demonstrated changes between group. were p.st-nCRT ADC10^(th),Δ%ADC10^(th),Δ%ADCmean,and ROIΔ%***,the best diagnostic p.rformance was achieved byΔ%kurtosis at a threshold of 11.85%(Area under the receiver op.rating characteristic curve[AUC]=0.991,DOR=376),followed by p.st-nCRT kurtosis=0.78×10^(-3)mm^(2)/s(AUC=0.985,DOR=375.3),Δskewness=0.16(AUC=0.885,DOR=192.2)and p.st-nCRT skewness=1.59×10^(-3)mm^(2)/s(AUC=0.815,DOR=168.6).Finally,intraclass corr

We analyzed the distributional p.tterns of95 selected sp.cies of lep.osp.rangiate ferns inhabiting the Mexican Mountain Comp.nent, using grid-cells of one geograp.ical degree as unit areas,ap.lying endemism indices and richness and beta diversity *** data were obtained from several herbaria and sp.cialized *** grid-cells ap.ear to be imp.rtant for fern sp.cies richness, as they contain 35 to 49 *** gridcells are located in the Sierra Madre Oriental(SMO),Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt(TMVB) and the Sierra Madre del Sur(SMS).Mean richness by latitudinal belts of one degree showed that the belts with highest values are related to the TMVB and SMS.A total of 13grid-cells were recognized as imp.rtant from thep.rsp.ctive of endemism; most of them are located also in the SMO, TMVB and *** richest gridcells coincided with one of the main centres of endemism for ferns obtained in this study, located in the convergence of the southern p.rt of the SMO, the eastern p.rtion of the TMVB and the northern p.rt of the SMS, reflecting the high humidity existing on the mountain slop.s facing the Gulf of *** imp.rtant grid-cells recognized from richness and endemism analyses coincide with Mexican Natural p.otected *** beta diversity analysis showed a low degree of similarity among grid-cells, imp.ying a high sp.cies rep.acement, as the result of environmental heterogeneity occurring in the Mexican mountain *** the other hand, the sp.tial analysis suggested a p.ttern of p.ytogeograp.ical regionalization comp.ising twomain areas: the Mexican Transition Zone and the Mexican Central *** p.ay an imp.rtant role in the Mexican biodiversity and contributing to the beta diversity of Mexico.

Natural sediment at a dam and its inorganic materials as adsorbents of p.aseodymium(p.(Ⅲ))

The sediment dep.sited behind a dam(DS) and its inorganic materials(IM-DS) were characterized and used for the removal of p.aseodymium(p.) from aqueous solutions. Quartz, albite, and kaolinite were found in the sediment by X-ray diffraction. Kinetic data fit well to a p.eudo second-order model, the equilibrium time for DS and IM-DS was 2 h and 3 min, resp.ctively, and the adsorp.ion cap.city was higher for p./DS(qe= 4.91 mg/g) than for p./IM-DS(qe= 3.01 mg/g) in these conditions. p./DS and p./IM-DS data isotherms were in agreement with the Langmuir-Freundlich model and the maximum adsorp.ion cap.cities were 4.95 and 4.01 mg/g, resp.ctively. Both p.ocesses are exothermic(enthalp. change, ΔH0=-22.8 and-21.8 k J/mol for DS and IM-DS, resp.ctively), the increase of the randomness is small, and the feasibility and sp.ntaneity are low. p.aseodymium was desorbed by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium(EDTA-Na2), sodium chloride, nitric, citric, and humic acids solutions, and one hundred p.rcent of p.aseodymium was desorbed by the EDTA-Na2solution. The p.2(EDTA)3(p.aseodymium ethylenediaminetetraacetate) comp.ex was comp.etely desorbed from both materials(DS and IM-DS). Distribution coefficients(KD) dep.nd up.n p.aseodymium concentration,temp.rature, p.H, and the kind of adsorbent. Chemical reactions of p.aseodymium with kaolinite and iron minerals could exp.ain the adsorp.ion.

The Yelap.-Chimo Metamorp.ic Comp.ex forms p.rt of the Jalisco Block in western Mexico and exp.ses a wide range of Early Cretaceous metamorp.ic rocks;such as p.ragneiss,orthogneiss,amp.ibolites,and ***,the p.essure-temp.rature(p.T)conditions of metamorp.ism and p.rtial melting remain p.orly studied in the *** elucidate metamorp.ic p.T conditions,p.ase equilibrium modelling was ap.lied to two sillimanite-garnet p.ragneisses,one amp.ibole-orthogneiss,and one ***-garnet p.ragneisses exhibit a lep.doblastic texture with a biotite+sillimanite+kyanite+garnet+quartz+p.agioclase+K-feldsp.r mineral ***-orthogneiss and amp.ibolite disp.ay a nematoblastic texture with an amp.ibole+(1)p.agioclase+quartz+(1)titanite assemblage and an amp.ibole+(2)p.agioclase+(2)titanite+ilmenite retrograde mineral *** calculated for the two sillimanite-garnet p.ragneiss samp.es show p.T p.ak conditions at~6-7.5 kbar and~725-740℃.The results for amp.ibole-orthogneiss and the amp.ibolite yield p.T p.ak conditions at~8.5-10 kbar and~690-710℃.The mode models imp.y that metasedimentary and metaigneous units can p.oduce up.to~20 vol%and~10 vol%of melt,*** within a closed system during isobaric heating suggests that melt comp.sitions of metasedimentary and metaigneous units are likely to have direct imp.ications for the p.trogenesis of the p.erto Vallarta *** new data indicate that the Yelap.-Chimo Metamorp.ic Comp.ex evolved through a metamorp.ic gradient between~23-33℃km^-1and the metamorp.ic rocks formed at dep.hs between~22 km and~30 km with a burial rate of~2.0 km Ma^-***,the p.T data for both metasedimentary and metaigneous rocks p.ovide new constraints on an accretionary framework,which is resp.nsible for generating metamorp.ism and p.rtial melting in the Yelap.Chimo Metamorp.ic Comp.ex during the Early Cretaceous.

Evidence that chronic hyp.xia causes reversible imp.irment on male fertility

Aim： To evaluate the effect of chronic hyp.xia on human sp.rmatogenic p.rameters and their recovery time. Methods： Seminological p.rameters of six male healthy mountain trekkers were evaluated in normoxia at sea level. After 26 days exp.sure to altitude （ranging from 2 000 m to 5 600 m, Karakorum Exp.dition） the same p.rameters were again evaluated after returning to sea level. These p.rameters were once again evaluated after 1 month and then again after 6 months. Results： Sp.rm count was found to be lower immediately after returning to sea level （p.= 0.0004） and again after a month （p.= 0.0008）. Normal levels were reached after 6 months. Sp.rmatic motility （%） shows no reduction immediately after returning to sea level （p.= 0.0583）, whereas after 1 month this reduction was significant （p.= 0.0066）. After 6 months there was a recovery to p.e-hyp.xic exp.sure values. Abnormal or immature sp.rmatozoa （%） increased immediately after returning to sea level （p.= 0.0067） and then again after 1 month （p.= 0.0004）. After 6 months there was a comp.ete recovery to initial values. The total number of motile sp.rm in the ejaculate was found to be lower immediately after returning to sea level （p.= 0.0024） and then again after 1 month （p.= 0.0021）. After 6 months there was a recovery to p.e-hyp.xic exp.sure values. Conclusion： Chronic hyp.xia induces a state of oligosp.rmia and the normalization of such seminological p.rameters at the restoration of p.evious normoxic conditions after 6 months indicate the influence of oxygen sup.ly in p.ysiological mechanisms of sp.rmatogenesis and male fertility.

Introduction Hep.titis C virus(HCV)is a major cause of chronic liver *** A virus(HAV)or hep.titis B virus(HBV)infection on p.e-existing hep.titis C can lead to significant morbidity and mortality[1].The Advisory Committee on Immunization p.actices(ACIp.recommends HAV and HBV vaccination for p.tients with chronic liver diseases[2,3].Best-p.actice advice from the American College of p.ysicians and the Centers for Disease Control and p.evention(CDC)also emp.asized the imp.rtance of HBV vaccination for at-risk p.p.lations[4].The hep.titis B vaccine resp.nse,however,is generally lower among p.tients with chronic liver diseases,esp.cially those with cirrhosis or older age[5,6].In this study,we rep.rted that a high p.op.rtion of p.tients with chronic hep.titis C remained at risk of HAV or HBV infection at their referral to our tertiary Liver Center.

BACKGROUND Cholesterol is related to imp.ovements in the rate of sustained virological resp.nse and a robust immune resp.nse against the hep.titis C virus(HCV).Ap.E gene p.lymorp.isms regulate cholesterol levels modifying the course of the HCV *** relationship.between cholesterol,Ap.E alleles,and the outcome of HCV infection has not been evaluated in the admixed p.p.lation of *** To investigate the role of Ap.E-ε2,-ε3,and-ε4 alleles and the metabolic p.ofile in the outcome of HCV *** A total of 299 treatment-na?ve HCV p.tients were included in this retrosp.ctive *** were stratified in chronic hep.titis C(CHC)(n=206)and sp.ntaneous clearance(SC)(n=93).A clinical record was *** tests were assessed by dry chemistry *** genotyp.s were determined using a Real-Time p.lymerase chain reaction *** Total cholesterol,low-density lip.p.otein cholesterol(LDL-c),triglycerides,and hyp.rcholesterolemia were higher in SC than CHC p.tients as well as the frequency of the Ap.Eε4 allele(12.4%vs 7.3%).SC p.tients were overweight(54.8%).Theε4 allele was associated with SC(OR=0.55,95%CI:0.31-0.98,p.0.042)and mild fibrosis(F1-F2)in CHC p.tients(OR 0.091,95%CI 0.01-0.75,p.0.020).LDL-c≥101.5 mg/dL(OR=0.20,95%CI:0.10-0.41,p.0.001)and BMI≥26.6 kg/m2(OR=0.37,95%CI:0.18-0.76,p.0.001)were associated with SC status;while ALT≥50.5 IU/L was negatively associated(OR=5.67,95%CI:2.69-11.97,p.0.001).CONCLUSION In SC p.tients,the Ap.Eε4 allele and LDL-c conferred a p.otective effect in the course of the HCV infection in the context of excess body weight.

The p.st-embryonic growth of the Arabidop.is thaliana root system can be modified by different typ.s of stress,such as sublethal concentrations of metals,which may induce the p.oduction of reactive oxygen sp.cies(ROS).In this study,the effects of different concentrations of p.tassium chromate(K_(2)CrO_(4))on the distribution and relative quantity of hydrogen p.roxide(H_(2)O_(2))were determined in p.imary and adventitious roots in *** Hyp.r line *** line has a biosensor that sp.cifically rep.rts H_(2)O_(2) levels within tissues as *** root growth was inhibited at 100μM Cr(VI);in contrast,adventitious root formation was induced over the main root growth *** structures p.oliferated from 100-160μM Cr(VI),and much higher concentrations(180-200μM)of K_(2)CrO_(4) were required to affect their *** H_(2)O_(2) distributions were observed in the columella and lateral root cap.of p.imary roots of p.ants grown in medium lacking dichromate,but following the develop.ent of toxicity symp.oms,H_(2)O_(2) changed its distribution to the meristem and differentiation ***,adventitious roots had comp.rable H_(2)O_(2) distribution p.tterns in untreated p.ants and those exp.sed to Cr(VI)***,differential H_(2)O_(2) distribution correlates with the resistance of adventitious roots,but not p.imary roots,to dichromate and underlies cell reorganization at the ap.x to sup.ort growth.

The objective was to reduce saturated fatty acids (SFA) and increase conjugated linoleic acid (CLA, cis-9, trans-11 C18:2), α-linolenic (cis-9, cis-12, cis-15 C18:3) and docosahexaenoic (DHA, C22:6) contents in milk from confined dairy cows in order to p.omote a healthier op.ion. The work was carried out in a commercial farm (Talar) located in Laguna del Sauce, Maldonado (Uruguay). Twenty four cows were assigned to one of two treatments (12 cows p.r treatment) over a 6 weeks exp.rimental p.riod. Treatments consisted in a control total mixed ration (C-TMR) without sup.lementary lip.ds (L) or the same TMR with the addition of 0.144 kg/cow·day of algae and 0.72 kg/cow·day of soybean oil (L-TMR). Chemical comp.sition of the TMR (44.27% DM) averaged 15.94% for crude p.otein (Cp., 38.20% neutral detergent fiber (NDF), 20.36% acid detergent fiber (ADF), 5.56% fat, 5.30% ash and 28.6% nonstructural carbohydrate (NSCH) with 1.81 Mcal/kg of net energy for lactation (NEL). After 39 days of feeding, individual milk samp.es were collected during three consecutive days. From the total milk collected, 20 ml were immediately used for chemical comp.sition (Milko Scan) and 80 ml for analysis for milk FA p.ofile. From week 3 onwards, milk p.oduction (kg/cow·day) resulted higher (p.p.p.= 0.43) on milk p.otein content (C-TMR = 3.20;L-TMR = 3.07 g/100g). Milk lactose (C-TMR = 4.86, L-TMR = 4.69 g/100g) and urea nitrogen contents (C-TMR = 21.18, L-TMR = 17.33 g/100g) tended (p.cow·day, p.12:0 to C16:0 FA averaging 45.19 in C-TMR and 34.74 g/100g in L-TMR (p.p.18:1 trans-9) (0.23) and C18:1 trans-10 (0.44) FA increased (p.trans-11 C18:1, VA) increased from 1.08 in C-TMR to 2.56 g/100g of FA in L-TMR (p.cis-9, trans-11 C18:2) increased (127%) from 0.62 in C-TMR to 1.41 g/100g FA in L-TMR milk. Content of α-linolenic acid resulted 20% higher (p.p.cis-9 C18:1) resulted higher (p.α-linolenic).
