The Gd_(60)Co_(30)Fe_(10)alloy ribbons with different solidification cooling rates were prepared by modifying the melt-spinning speed of 6.0,12.5,25.0 and 50.0 m·s^(-1)·With cooling rate decreasing,the(Fe,Co)5 Gd and hcp-Gd nanocrystalline was in situ precipitated among the amorphous matrix,which resulted in the composition change of the amorphous *** of the only slight amount of crystalline phase in Gd_(60)Co_(30)Fe_(10)alloys,the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties mainly depend on the amorphous phase,and all the magnetic entropy change versus temperature(|Δ|SMI-T)curves are table-like,indicating the suitability for Ericsson *** magnetic transition temperature of the Gd_(60)Co_(30)Fe_(10)alloy at a melt-spinning speed of 6.0 m·s^(-1) shifted obviously to the lower value with the applied magnetic fields *** peak value of magnetic entropy change(|ΔSMpk|)is 2.19 j·kg^(-1)·K^(-1)at217 K under the magnetic field change of 0-2 T,and the table-like region is 200-230 *** was proved that the moderate reduction of the cooling rate will not deteriorate the magnetocaloric performance of the Gd_(60)Co_(30)Fe_(10)ribbons seriously.

Uargathy Inlet is a small natural tidal inlet in the northern region ol the Virginia Darner island chain. It is 100 m wide with a throat cross-sectional area of 384m2 and an average tidal prism of 6.47 x 106 m3. The inside drainage system is 7.8 km long and 2.2km wide. The main channels comprise 5.8% of the area, shallow lagoons 19.8%, and Spartina marshes 74.4% in 1970. Over the period 1851 - 1989 the inlet narrowed and migrated northward while maintaining a weakening downdrift offset. The nearby barrier island coastline’s rapid retreat (average rate 4.78m /a, 138 years retreat 660 m) was accompanied by back barrier channel and lagoon filling and a decrease in intertidal water volume which was probably the main reason for the entrance narrowing. The northward migration of the inlet was related to the dredging of the Inside Passage (before 1949) and the breaching of southern Metompkin Island (since 1957) connected with the inlet system. Although it is well known that plants emit acoustic pulses under drought stress,the exact origin of the waveform of these ultrasound pulses has remained ***,we present evidence for a correlation between the characteristics of the waveform of these pulses and the dimensions of xylem conduits in *** a model that relates the resonant vibrations of a vessel to its dimension and viscoelasticity,we extract the xylem radi from the waveforms of ultrasound pulses and show that these are correlated and in good agreement with optical *** demonstrate the versatility of the method by applying it to shoots of ten different vascular plant *** particular,for Hydrangea quercifolia,we further extract vessel element lengths with our model and compare them with scanning electron *** ultrasonic,noninvasive characterization of internal conduit dimensions enables a breakthrough in speed and accuracy in plant phenotyping and stress detection.

Geochemistry of Middle Holocene Sediments from South Yellow Sea: Implications to Provenance and Climate Change

From a large number of case studies on terrestrial deposits we know that Late Holocene climate fluctuations have an important impact on the terrestrial environments. However, it is hitherto not clear how the marine sediments can be used to shed light on the environment and climate change of the catchment. To provide such insight, we used the major element, trace element and rare earth element（REE） compositions in the southern Yellow Sea（SYS） sediments to reconstruct the changes in weathering and erosion of their source regions. The sediments originate predominantly from the upper crust of East China and are transported into the basin especially by the Yellow River（Huanghe） and to a lesser extent by the Yangtze River（Changjiang）. The chemical index of alteration（CIA; 53.7–59.7） suggests low chemical weathering of the source rocks since the Middle Holocene. This is consistent with the relatively cool and arid climate in North China after the Holocene Megathermal. Comparison of element ratios, including Al/Ca, K/Ca, Al/Na, K/Na, Rb/Sr, Li/Ba and the CIA shows that we can use the latter as a robust proxy for climate change. The CIA-based mean annual precipitation and mean annual temperature show a series of climate fluctuations in the catchment. A relatively warm and humid Period I（5.3–2.9 cal. ka BP）, a relatively cool and dry Period II（2.9–0.9 cal. ka BP） and an increasingly cool and dry Period III（0.9–0.3 cal. ka BP）. These periods can be linked to climate intervals recognized elsewhere.
