The present study deals with the determination of Mount Olympus summit(Mytikas),exploiting modern observations such as Global Navigation satellite systems(GNss)and existing geodetic *** last official Olympus height determination goes back 102 years by the swiss surveyor *** then,only unofficial measurement campaigns have taken *** is a variety of released heights,which range from 2917 to 2919 *** september and October of 2022,we conducted a GNss campaign,focusing on the area of highest Olympus *** precise GNss measurements(accuracy of 1-3 cm),in conjunction with height information from Greece’s National Triangulation Network(5-10 cm accuracy)and an appropriate,recent geoid model(5-6 cm accuracy),we estimate through the so-called GNss-levelling,the height of Olympus to 2917.727 m with respect to Greece’s officially accepted mean sea level and 2918.390 m with respect to the global vertical *** estimation of Olympus highest peak shows remarkable consistency at the level of 12.8 cm to that of *** in 1921.

Fragility assessment of wood sheathing panels and roof-to-wall connections subjected to wind loading

The performance of the wood-frame buildings after tornadoes has shown that the majority of the wind damage resulted from building envelope failure most typically due to the loss of the *** assess the performance and the reliability of low-rise wood-frame residential buildings with a focus on the roofs,fragility analysis can be used to estimate the probability of failure of a roof when constructed with specified nails and sheathing ***,this paper examines the fragility of specific types of nails,roof-to-wall(RW)connection details,and sheathing sizes based on the damaged roofs that were previously assessed in the Dunrobin area in Ottawa(Ontario)that was hit with an Enhanced Fujita(EF3)tornado on september 21,*** presented fragility analysis considers four scenarios,including different sheathing and nail *** loads,wind loads,and resistance on the sheathing panels were compiled and analyzed to determine the failure of the examined *** eight fragility models suggest that the safest roof sheathing(Rs)is the 1.22 m×1.22 m sheathing panel with 8 d nails,and the safest RW connections is achieved by using H2.5 hurricane clips.

A study on Refractive Index sensors Based on Optical Micro-Ring Resonators

In this work, the behavior of refractive index sensors based on optical micro-ring resonators is studied in detail. Using a result of waveguide perturbation theory in combination with numerical simulations, the optimum design parameters of the system, maximizing the sensitivity of the sensor, are determined. It is found that, when optimally designed, the sensor can detect relative refractive index changes of the order of △n/n≈3×10^-4, assuming that the experimental setup can detect relative wavelength shifts of the order of △λ/λ≈3×10^-5. The behavior of the system as bio-sensor has also been examined. It is found that, when optimally designed, the system can detect refractive index changes of the order of △n≈ 10^-3 for a layer thickness of t=- 10 nm, and changes in the layer thickness of the order of △t≈0.24 nm, for a refractive index change of △n=0.05.

Frailty and Liver resection: where do we stand?

As the world population is continuously aging, the number of older patients requiring liver surgery is also on the rise. Data have shown that age should not be a limiting factor for liver resection, as it cannot accurately predict postoperative outcomes. Instead, frailty can serve as a more reliable measure of the patient's overall health and functional reserves. several frailty assessment tools have been implemented for preoperative risk stratification before liver surgery, and higher scores have commonly been associated with postoperative morbidity, mortality, and length of hospital stay. However, no consensus has been reached on the most useful screening tool. Future studies should focus on comparing the currently available assessment tools, constructing a liver resection-specific tool, and assessing the role of frailty assessment tools in preoperative patient optimization.

Model Reference Adaptive Control for Networked Distributed systems with strong Interconnections and Communication Delays

In recent years, networked distributed control systems（NDCs） have received research attention. Two of the main challenges that such systems face are possible delays in the communication network and the effect of strong interconnections between agents. This paper considers an NDCs that has delays in the communication network, as well as strong interconnections between its agents. The control objective is to make each agent track efficiently a reference model by attenuating the effect of strong interconnections via feedback based on the delayed information. First, the authors assume that each agent knows its own dynamics, as well as the interconnection parameters, but receives information about the states of its neighbors with some communication delay. The authors propose a distributed control scheme and prove that if the interconnections can be weakened and if the communication delays are small enough, then the proposed scheme guarantees that the tracking error of each agent is bounded with a bound that depends on the size of the weakened interconnections and delays, and reduces to zero as these uncertainties reduce to zero. The authors then consider a more realistic situation where the interconnections between agents are unknown despite the cooperation and sharing of state information. For this case the authors propose a distributed adaptive control scheme and prove that the proposed scheme guarantees that the tracking errors are bounded and small in the mean square sense with respect to the size of the weakened interconnections and delays, provided the weakened interconnections and time delays are small enough. The authors then consider the case that each agent knows neither its dynamics nor the interconnection matrices. For this case the authors propose a distributed adaptive control scheme and prove that the proposed scheme guarantees that the tracking errors are bounded and small in the mean square sense provided the weakened interconnections and time delays are

Particle Paths of Lagrangian Velocity Distribution simulating the spiral Arms of Galaxy M51

Galaxies are huge families of stars held together by their own gravities. The system M51 is a spiral galaxy. It possesses billions of stars. The range of the spiral arms extends hundred thousand light years. The present study is in an attempt in using the particle paths of the Lagrangian flow field to simulate the spiral arms of Galaxy M51. The Lagrangian flow field is introduced. The initial locations of fluid particles in the space between two concen- tric cylinders are ftrst specified. Then a linear velocity distribution of the fluid particles is used with different an- gle rotations of the particles to obtain the particle paths in the Lagrangian diagram. For simulating the spiral arms of Galaxy M51, the Lagrangian M51 diagram is developed. The particle paths of the Lagrangian M51 diagram agree quite well with the spiral arms of Galaxy M51.

An unusual case of prolonged post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography jaundice

Despite the effectiveness of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography（ERCP） for the treatment of choledocholithiasis, various complications have been described. We herein report the first case of prolonged postERCP jaundice due to toxicity of the contrast agent Iobitridol（~174;XENETIX, Guerbet, Roissy Cd G Cedex, France） in a patient who underwent ERCP with sphincterectomy and common bile duct stone removal. While clinical improvement and normalization of aminotransferases and cholestatic enzymes after the procedure, an unexplained increase of direct bilirubin was noticed. A second ERCP was performed one week later, excluding possible remaining choledocholithiasis. Nevertheless, serum direct bilirubin increased further up to 15 mg/d L. Other potential causes of direct hyperbilirubinemia were ruled out and patient＇s liver biopsy was compatible with drug-induced liver toxicity. Additionally, the cause-result time connection between the use of Iobitridol and bilirubin increase indicated the possibility of a toxic effect related to the repeated use of the particular contrast agent. Iobitridol, a contrast agent, can induce prolonged direct hyperbilirubinemia.

Real-time impact of power balancing on power system operation with large scale integration of wind power

Highly wind power integrated power system requires continuous active power regulation to tackle the power imbalances resulting from the wind power forecast errors. The active power balance is maintained in real-time with the automatic generation control and also from the control room, where regulating power bids are activated manually. In this article, an algorithm is developed to simulate the activation of regulating power bids, as performed in the control room, during power imbalance between generation and load demand. In addition, the active power balance is also controlled through automatic generation control, where coordinated control strategy between combined heat and power plants and wind power plant enhances the secure power system operation. The developed algorithm emulating the control room response,to deal with real-time power imbalance, is applied and investigated on the future Danish power system model. The power system model takes the hour-ahead regulating power plan from power balancing model and the generation and power exchange capacities for the year 2020 into *** real-time impact of power balancing in a highly wind power integrated power system is assessed and discussed by means of simulations for different possible scenarios.

An accurate model for the thin film flow

This paper deals with the linear stability of a liquid film flowing down an inclined plane. The Navier-stokes equations were reduced into four evolution equations that describe the development of the film depth, the flow rate, the free surface velocity, and the wall shear stress, using the Karman-Polhausen boundary layer integral method. Thus, we were able to determine the stability threshold and approach well the critical wave number for long waves. The obtained results were found to be in good agreement with the experiments of Liu et al.

On the refracted patterns produced by liquid vortices

A theoretical analysis of the refracted shadows produced by steady and time-decaying liquid vortices under uniform illumination from above is given in this article. An expression for the induced shadow intensity is derived and found to be a function of the vortex＇s free surface profile, i.e., function of the static pressure distribution. The patterns for different focusing depth are given and compared with previous visualization results from the literature. The phenomenon is examined and illustrated as a bench mark case by using both steady and time-decaying algebraic vortex models. However, this study can be extended to check the feasibility of recovering the main flow properties by analyzing the luminous image intensity of the refracted patterns. The present analysis is valid only when the swirl velocity is order of magnitude higher than the meridional flow components and the vorticity is concentrated within the core region and of intense conditions.
