Despite the eco.o.ical and eco.o.ic impo.tance o. Acacia senegal, little is kno.n abo.t the effects o. anthro.o.enic disturbances o. its natural regeneratio. patterns and po.ulatio. structure. We investigated the effects o. these facto.s within the Lake Baringo.wo.dland eco.ystem. Data was co.lected fro. 60 plo.s o. 20 m × 20 m systematically distributed in fo.r A. senegal-do.inated po.ulatio.s within the Lake Baringo.wo.dland. Sample po.ulatio.s spanned a degradatio. gradient measured by a po.ulatio. disturbance index (PDI). Trees were measured fo. diameter at breast height (DBH) and catego.ized by gro.th stages: seedling, sapling and adult tree. Higher seedling and sapling densities were reco.ded in lightly than heavily disturbed po.ulatio.s, but o.ly sapling density was significantly different between the two.disturbance levels (P = 0.02). Lightly disturbed po.ulatio.s revealed a reversed J-shape size-class distributio. (SCD) indicative o. stable structure unlike the heavily disturbed po.ulatio.s. The quo.ient and permutatio. indices indicated unstable po.ulatio.s with episo.ic recruitment and mo.tality. o.r study reveals that natural regeneratio. and po.ulatio. structure o. A. senegal were affected majo.ly by selective harvesting and heavy bro.sing. Suitable management strategies to.co.tro. livesto.k grazing and illegal tree harvesting within the wo.dland is required to.pro.o.e co.servatio. o. the species genetic reso.rces
