Iron homeostasis is a complex process in which iron uptake and use are tightly *** Type 1 or HFE hemochromatosis results from homozygous mutations in the gene that encodes human homeostatic iron regulator(known as human factors engineering,HFE)protein,a regulator of hepcidin,and makes up approximately 90%of all hemochromatosis ***,four types of hemochromatosis do not involve the HFE *** are non-HFE hemochromatosis type 2A(HFE2,encoding HJV),type 2B(HAMP,encoding hepcidin),type 3(TFR2,encoding transferring receptor-2),and types 4A and B(SLc40A1,encoding *** hemochromatosis is extremely *** allele frequencies have been estimated to be 74/100,000 for type 2A,20/100,000 for type 2B,30/100,000 for type 3,and 90/100,000 for type 4 *** guidelines recommend that the diagnosis be made by ruling out HFE mutations,history,physical examination,laboratory values(ferritin and transferrin saturation),magnetic resonance or other imaging,and liver biopsy if *** less common,non-HFE hemochromatosis can cause iron overload as severe as the HFE *** most cases,treatment involves phlebotomy and is successful if started before irreversible damage *** diagnosis and treatment are important because it prevents chronic liver *** review updates the mutations and their pathogenetic consequences,the clinical picture,diagnostic guidelines,and treatment of hemochromatosis.

We report on the use of a fiber-based Mueller-matrix optical coherence tomography(OcT)system with continuous source-polarization modulation for in vivo imaging of early stages of skin cancer in SENcAR mice.A homemade hand-held probe with integrated optical scanning and beam delivering optics was coupled in the sample *** OcT images show the morphological changes in skin resulting from pre-cancerous papilloma formations that are consistent with histology,thus demonstrating the system’s potential for early skin cancer detection.

Small bowel obstructions （SBOs） are primarily caused by adhesions, hernias, neoplasms, or inflammatory strictures. Intraluminal strictures are an uncommon cause of SBO. This report describes our findings in a unique case of sequential, stenotic intraluminal strictures of the small intestine, discusses the differential diagnosis of intraluminal intestinal strictures, and reviews the literature regarding intraluminal pathology.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) sponsored a large,multi-year project conducted by the Multidisciplinary center for Earthquake Engineering Research (McEER) titled'Seismic Vulnerability of New Highway construction'(McEER Project 112),which was completed in *** coordinated the work of many researchers,who performed studies on the seismic design and vulnerability analysis of highway bridges,tunnels,and retaining structures. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal *** originate from the interstitial cells of cajal and are usually found in extrahepatic gastrointestinal ***,a small subset are derived from the liver and are known as primary hepatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors(PHGIST).They have a poor prognosis and are historically difficult to *** objective was to review and update the latest evidence-based knowledge concerning PHGIST,with a focus on epidemiology,etiology,pathophysiology,clinical presentation,histopathology,and *** tumors are usually found incidentally,occur sporadically,and are associated with mutations of KIT and PDGFRA *** is a diagnosis of exclusion,as it has the same molecular,immunochemistry and histological appearance as gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GIST).Thus,imaging,such as positron emission tomography-computed tomography(PET-cT)must be used to rule out metastatic GIST before a diagnosis can be ***,with mutation analysis and pharmacological advances,tyrosine kinase inhibitors are typically pursued with or without surgical *** potential treatments include transcatheter arterial chemoembolization and tumor ***,these are typically considered palliative *** there are only a limited number of publications regarding PHGIST,data concerning morbidity and mortality are not yet *** can help develop screening guidelines and evaluating resistance to treatment.

Zn addition to Mg alloys activates non-basal slip or twinning with solute softening *** the other hand,the effects of the Zn solute on the macroscopic dislocation behavior and dynamic recrystallization are not completely ***,it is unclear ifslip can be affected by changes in the c/a ratio of solute *** study was conducted to understand the solute strengthening of Zn addition and its effects on the dislocation characteristics and dynamic recrystallization.A hot torsion test was performed on both AM30 and AZ31 alloys up to a high strain to investigate the Zn solute effect on the dislocation characteristics and dynamic *** dislocation components of the hot torsioned alloys were evaluated by X-ray line profile analysis and electron backscatter *** results showed that the Zn solutes slightly accelerate strain accumulation at the initial stages of hot deformation,which accelerated recrystallization at high *** dislocation characteristics were changed dynamically by Zn addition:fortified-type slip,dislocation arrangement and strain anisotropy *** most important point was that the dislocation characteristics were changed dramatically at the critical strain for recrystallization and high strain *** addition of Zn also acted greatly in these strain *** indicates that the rapid formation of-type slip at the serrated grain boundaries occurs at the initiation of dynamic recrystallization and the increase in the grain triple junction because grain refinement has a great influence on the dislocation characteristics at high strain.

Enhanced refolding of lysozyme with imidazolium-based room temperature ionic liquids: Effect of hydrophobicity and sulfur residue

The expression of recombinant proteins in microorganism frequently leads to the formation of insoluble aggregates, inclusion bodies （IBs）. Thus, the additional in vitro protein refolding process is required to convert inactive IBs into water-soluble active proteins. This study investigated the effect of sulfur residue and hydrophobicity of imidazolium-based room temperature ionic liquids （RTILs） on the refolding of lysozyme as a model protein in the batch dilution method which is the most commonly used refolding method. When lysozyme was refolded in the refolding buffer containing [BF4]-based RTILs with a systematic variety of alkyl chain on cations varying from two to eight, less hydrophobic imidazolium cations having shorter alkyl chains were effective to facilitate lysozyme refolding. compared to the conventional refolding buffer, 2 times higher lysozyme re- folding yield was obtained in l-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate （[EMIM][BF4]） containing refolding buffer. The refolding yield of lysozyme was even more increased by 2.5 times when 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium methylsulfate （[BMIM][MS]） containing sulfur residue on anion was used. The sulfur residue in [BMIM][MS] is supposed to improve the refolding yield of lysozyme which has 4 intrarnolecular disulfide bonds. For dilution-based refolding of lysozyme, the opti- mum concentrations of RTILs in refolding buffer were found to be 1.0 M [EMIM][BF4] and 0.5 M [PMIM][MS], respectively. The optimum temperate for dilution-based refolding of lysozyme with RTILs was 4 ℃.
