Destabilization of HIF-1a by Diabetes, Oxidative Stress, Obesity and Other Related Disorders

One of the most fundamental molecular processes in response to hypoxia is the activation and stabilization of a transcriptional factor called hypoxia induced factor 1a (HIF-1a), which is responsible for the regulation of many downstream effector genes. Multiple key biological pathways such as proliferation, energy metabolism, invasion, and metastasis are governed by these genes. This article discusses the role of hypoxia-inducible factor 1a (HIF-1a) in metabolic and pathological processes, particularly in adipose tissue, oxidative stress, inflammation, diabetes and cancer. HIF1A is a basic helix-loophelix PAS domain containing protein, and is considered as the master transcriptional regulator of cellular and developmental response to hypoxia. HIF-1a regulates the expression of genes involved in angiogenesis, glucose metabolism, inflammation and oxidative stress. In obesity, adipose tissue hypoxia leads to increased expression of HIF-1a, which can lead to chronic inflammation and adipose tissue dysfunction. Another field that HIF-1a is also involved in cancer pathogenesis pathways, such as proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis, and is considered a potential therapeutic target for metabolic/genetic diseases and cancer. Direct and indirect HIF-1 inhibitors have been identified, but only a few have entered clinical trials due to their multiple side effects.

This paper presents the design,calibration,and survey strategy of the Fast Radio Burst (FRB) digital backend and its real-time data processing pipeline employed in the Tianlai Cylinder Pathfinder *** array,consisting of three parallel cylindrical reflectors and equipped with 96 dual-polarization feeds,is a radio interferometer array designed for conducting drift scans of the northern celestial *** FRB digital backend enables the formation of 96 digital beams,effectively covering an area of approximately 40 square degrees with the 3 dB *** pipeline demonstrates the capability to conduct an automatic search of FRBs,detecting at quasi-realtime and classifying FRB candidates *** current FRB searching pipeline has an overall recall rate of88%.During the commissioning phase,we successfully detected signals emitted by four well-known pulsars:PSR B0329+54,B2021+51,B0823+26,and B2020+*** report the first discovery of an FRB by our array,designated as FRB *** also investigate the optimal arrangement for the digitally formed beams to achieve maximum detection rate by numerical simulation.

Total cholesterol (CHOL) levels have been shown in many studies, to be higher in people with several types of cancer. Similar results are observed for both triglycerides (TG) and low-density cholesterol (LDL), as opposed to high-density cholesterol (HDL). Chemotherapy seems to reduce CHOL and LDL, leading to a reduction. Furthermore, the recurrence of high levels of CHOL, TG and LDL, as well as low levels of HDL, after receiving treatment, or when patients appear to have been cured, are signs of a possible recurrence of the disease. Lipoprotein α (Lpa), occurs at higher levels in patients than in healthy people, whereas lipokines resistin and bisfatin, “hormonal” products of adipose tissue exhibited high levels in cancer cases, compared to control groups.

0.3%精甲霜灵·噁霉灵可溶粉剂药肥是集杀菌剂与肥料优势于一体的产品,采用滴灌施药的方式,研究其对辣椒苗期猝倒病的防治效果和植株生长影响。结果表明:在90和75 kg/hm^(2)滴灌施用量下,0.3%精甲霜灵·噁霉灵可溶粉剂药肥均对辣椒生长具有明显促进作用,平均株高、平均茎粗、根鲜质量、根干质量和壮苗指数均显著高于空白对照,而且促生作用优于18.7%吡唑醚菌酯·烯酰吗啉WG 1.5 kg/hm^(2)+水溶肥75 kg/hm^(2)(CK3)。该药肥均对苗期猝倒病具有较好的防治效果,在处理两次后,2个施用量下的防治效果分别达到89.15%(75 kg/hm^(2))和89.68%(90 kg/hm^(2));死苗率分别为4.34%(75 kg/hm^(2))和4.23%(90 kg/hm^(2))。75和90 kg/hm^(2)的施用量相比较效果差异不显著,因此0.3%精甲霜灵·噁霉灵可溶粉剂药肥75 kg/hm^(2)的施用量符合生产上推广应用要求。

Effect of airplane transport of donor livers on post-liver transplantation survival

AIM To evaluate the effect of long haul airplane transport of donor livers on post-transplant outcomes. METHODS A retrospective cohort study of patients who received a liver transplantation was performed in Perth, Australia from 1992 to 2012. Donor and recipient characteristics information were extracted from Western Australian liver transplantation service database. Patients were followed up for a mean of six years. Patient and graft survival were evaluated and compared between patients who received a local donor liver and those who received an airplane transported donor liver. Predictors of survival were determined by univariate and multivariate analysis using cox *** One hundred and ninety-three patients received alocal donor liver and 93 patients received an airplane transported donor liver. Airplane transported livers had a significantly lower alanine transaminase(mean: 45 U/L vs 84 U/L, P = 0.035), higher donor risk index(mean: 1.88 vs 1.42, P < 0.001) and longer cold ischemic time(CIT)(mean: 10.1 h vs 6.4 h, P < 0.001). There was a weak correlation between CIT and transport distance(r2 = 0.29, P < 0.001). Mean follow up was six years and 93 patients had graft failure. Multivariate analysis found only airplane transport retained significance for graft loss(HR = 1.92, 95%CI: 1.16-3.17). One year graft survival was 0.88 for those with a local liver and was 0.71 for those with an airplane transported liver. One year graft loss was due to primary graft non-function or associated with preservation injury in 20.8% of recipients of an airplane transported liver compared with 4.6% in those with a local liver(P = 0.027). CONCLUSION Airplane transport of donor livers was independently associated with reduced graft survival following liver transplantation.

We propose a theoretical model of a nanoemitter for giga- and terahertz-range waves. The model is based on a peapod structure comprising a carbon nanotube with chiral indices （10, 10）. Three encapsulated and partially polymerized fuUerene C60 molecules and a positively charged C60 fullerene are trapped inside the nanotube. The motion of the charged fullerene and the radiation frequency were controlled using an external electric field. Stable terahertz radiation at a frequency of 0.36 THz was produced at 300 K with an external electrical field of 10 V/μm. Stable radiation in the gigahertz range was observed at 50 K with an electric field below 10 V/m. A theoretical simulation was performed using the tight-binding molecular dynamics method with a description of the van der Waals interaction by the Morse potential. The system described by the theoretical model was experimentally observed.

Effects of Fungicide Treatments and Storage Temperatures on Fruit Quality of Two Mango （Mangifera indica） Cultivars

Harvested fruits of mango （Mangifera indica） suffer from both physiological and pathological deterioration in quality during storage which consequently affects their market value. A study was conducted to investigate the effects of fungicide treatments and storage temperatures on fruit quality of two mango cultivars, Keirt and Palmer. Mango fruits were treated with 0.04% or 0.08% v/v Triadimefon at either 53 ℃ （hot） or at room temperature and then either stored under ambient conditions （27-29 ℃） or in a refrigerator at a temperature of 11-12 ℃. Fruits stored under ambient conditions developed external colour faster than those stored at a lower temperature. Brix values for fruits treated with Triadimefon decreased with time. Fruits stored at lower temperatures gave least Brix values as compared with those stored under ambient conditions. Percentage titratable acid （%TA） of fruits stored at low temperatures increased over time. Fruits stored at lower temperatures recorded lower pH compared with fruits stored under ambient conditions. Palmer fruits recorded higher %Brix to %TA ratio, indicating a higher sweetness level. The firmness of Palmer fruits kept at lower temperatures increased with time when compared with Keitt fruit. Fruits treated with hot water at 53 ℃ and/or stored at low temperatures （11-12 ℃） had lower levels of anthracnose infection than other treatments. Keitt fruits were more susceptible to anthracnose infection than Palmer fruits. Mango fruits should therefore be treated with hot water at 53 ℃ and then stored at low temperatures （11-12 ℃） in order to slow down the rate of ripening and to reduce anthracnose infection.

Advanced Endoscopic Palliation of Unresectable Periampullary Carcinoma: A Systematic Review

Background and Aims: Periampullary malignancies often present at an advanced unresectable stage requiring palliation of symptoms for the better quality of life. Though they require multispecialty support;role of endoscopic interventions in palliation is paramount because of the advancement in technology and increase experience of Gastroenterologist. Methods: We did extensive review of articles regarding endoscopic advances in the management of Unresectable Periampullary Malignancies. Several systematic reviews, Meta analysis, and Randomized controlled trials published over the last 2 decades were thoroughly searched on PUBMED and GOOGLE SCHOLAR. Results: Advanced Endoscopic procedures have been emerging as a superior modality than conventional measures because of minimal invasiveness and greater clinical and technical success. Conclusion: Periampullary malignancies often present at an advanced unresectable stage requiring palliation of symptoms for the better quality of life. Several endoscopic interventions have already been established as the standard of care in palliation of symptoms of unresectable periampullary malignancies, we can say with confidence that with growing advances in EUS, advancement in technologies and increasing experiences, the role of gastroenterologist will be pivotal in these groups of patients.
