In order to conserve and culture the cichlid fish Archocentrus nigrofasciatus,more information about its reproductive biology and its larval behavior and morphogenesis is ***,temperatures ranging from 21 to 27°C are used in ornamental aquaculture *** temperatures are preferred to reduce the costs of water heating,and 23°C is usually the selected ***,there is limited information on culturing protocols for ornamental species and most of the information generated on this topic remains ***,the present study examines the morphological development of Archocentrus nigrofasciatus during the yolk-sac period up to the age of 100 h post-hatching in relation to 2 temperature regimes used in ornamental aquaculture:a temperature of 27°C(thermal optimum)and a decreased temperature of 23°C(thermal tolerance).The results of this study suggest that the 27°C temperature generates intense morphological changes in yolk-sac development in a shorter *** has advantages as it reduces the time of yolk-sac larval development,and,thus,minimizes the transition phase to exogenous feeding and maximizes the efficiency at which yolk is converted into body *** present paper provides necessary information to produce freshwater ornamental fish with better practices so as to increase larval survival and capitalize on time for growth.

Variations in soil organic matter accumulation across an elevation can be used to explain the control of substrate supply and variability on soil metabolic activity. We investigated geographic changes in soil organic matter and metabolic rates along an elevation gradient（289–2,489 m） in the Santa Rosa Mountains, California, USA from subalpine and montane pine forests through chaparral to desert. From base（289 m） to summit（2,489 m）, 24 sites were established for collecting soil samples under canopies and inter-canopy spaces, at 0–5 and 5–15 cm soil depths increments. Soil organic matter（SOM） content was determined using weight loss on ignition at 550°C and soil CO2 efflux（R） was measured at day 5（R5） and day 20（R20） of incubation. Changes in SOM content along the elevation gradient showed a significant relationship（P〈0.05） but R5 and R20 were not related to either elevation or SOM content. However, the ratio of R and SOM（R5/SOM） showed a strong relationship across the mountains at both soil depths. R5/SOM, as an indicator of carbon use efficiency, may be applicable to other semi-arid transects at larger scale modeling of soil metabolic processes.

Copper-based pesticides and wood preservatives could end up in the environment during production,use,and end-of-life via different pathways that could cause unintended ecolog-ical and adverse health *** paper provides the effect of colloid-size Cu-based pesti-cides(CuPRO and Kocide),micronized Cu azole(MCA-1 and MCA-2)and alkaline Cu quater-nary(ACQ)treated woods,Cu^(2+),Cu^(2+) spiked untreated wood(UTW),and CuCO_(3) solutions against Gram-positive Bacillus species using five-day biochemical oxygen demand(BOD 5)stan-dard *** total Cu leached from MCA-1,MCA-2,and ACQ in Milli-Q water after 5 days were -0.1,-0.11,and -0.64 g/kg of wood,***,the form of Cu leached from MCA woods was mostly ionic(>90%).The total organic carbon(TOC)content of any tested wood(UTW/MCA-1/MCA-2/ACQ)was -99%of its corresponding total carbon(TC)content,whereas the TOC of any tested wood sawdust exceeded that of its corresponding piece/block by>300%.The dissolved oxygen(DO)consumption value in the presence of Cu^(2+),CuCO_(3),CuPRO,and Kocide solutions was significantly influenced by Cu particles/***,the DO consumption value in the presence of UTW/MCA-1/MCA-2/ACQ woods was significantly influenced by organics leached from *** the other hand,the DO consumption of MCA sawdust was greater than(300%)that of MCA pieces/*** findings of this study provide more insight into how organics leached from woods significantly reduce the toxic effects of Cu ions against Gram-positive Bacillus species.

We discuss the shape of threshold signals in production cross sections of the reaction e＋e- → D＊ Dˉ＊, at the opening of the Ds＊ Dˉs＊ and Λc＋ Λ＋c channels. Furthermore, evidence for the ψ（3D）, ψ（5S）, ψ（4D）, ψ（6S）, ψ（5D）, ψ（7S）, ψ（6D）, and ψ（8S） new charmonium vector resonances is presented, on the basis of data recently published by the BABAR Collaboration. Central masses and resonance widths are estimated. Confirmation of these resonances would be a huge step in lifting the precision level of hadron spectroscopy towards that of atomic spectroscopy, with far-reaching consequences for theory.

Regulation of streamflow by a reservoir creates a flow regime much different from the preimpoundment period flow regime. Hydro-Electric Projects(HEPs) commissioned in the Western Ghat regions of the Kerala State, India during the last four decades caused considerable changes in the flow regimes of the rivers of the Kerala State in southwest India. In this paper, the Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration(IHA) approach proposed by Richter et al.(1996) is used to analyze flow regime changes in the Periyar and Muvattupuzha Rivers, due to the construction of the Idukki(1976), Idamalayar(1987) and Lower Periyar(1997) HEPs in the high ranges of the Western Ghats. Normal rainfall years(annual rainfall values within mean ± 0.75 standard deviation limits) are only considered in the analysis to focus on hydrologic alterations due to human activities. The mean hydrologic alteration in the Periyar River(deviation from the pre-development hydrologic indicator values) after commissioning of three HEPs is 35%. Inter-basin water transfer after power generation from the Idukki HEP resulted in a higher discharge in the adjacent Muvattupuzha River, leading to considerable changes in the hydroenvironment(mean hydrologic alterations varying between 57 to 63%). IHA parameters showing hydrologic alterations above the 67 th Percentile werefurther analyzed. For each of the pre-construction hydrologic parameters ± 1 standard deviation from the mean is set as the upper and lower management target limits. The values of each IHA parameter beyond these targets are considered as nonattainment. Considerable hydrologic alterations are observed, especially for low flows in both basins. Inter-basin transfer induced larger changes in flow parameters compared to intra-basin regulations. The study shows that under a proper water release and diversion scheme, the non-attainment of IHA parameters(values fall beyond the target limits) can be reduced. Climate change effects tend to reinforce the frequency and severity of wildfires worldwide,and early detection of wildfire events is considered of crucial *** primary aim of this study was the spatial optimization of fire resources(that is,watchtowers)considering the interplay of geographical features(that is,simulated burn probability to delimit fire vulnerability;topography effects;and accessibility to candidate watchtower locations)and geo-optimization techniques(exact programming methods)to find both an effective and financially feasible solution in terms of visibility coverage in Chalkidiki Prefecture of northern *** integration of all geographical features through the Analytical Hierarchy Process indicated the most appropriate territory for the installment of *** analysis guaranteed the independence and proximity of location options(applying spatial systematic sampling to avoid first order redundancy)across the *** conjunction of the above processes yielded 654 candidate watchtower positions in 151,890 ha of *** algorithm was designed to maximize the joint visible area and simultaneously minimize the number of candidate locations and overlapping effects(avoiding second order redundancy).The results indicate four differentiated location options in the study area:(1)75locations can cover 90%of the forests(maximum visible area);(2)47 locations can cover 85%of the forests;(3)31locations can cover 80.2%of the forests;and(4)16 locations can cover 70.6%of the *** last option is an e fficient solution because it covers about 71%of the forests with just half the number of watchtowers that would be required for the third option with only about 10%additional forest ***,the final choice of any location scheme is subject to agency priorities and their respective financial flexibility.
