Circadian variation in expression of G_1 phase cyclins D_1 and E and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors p16 and p21 in human bowel mucosa

AIM： To evaluate whether the cellular proliferation rate in the large bowel epithelial cells is characterized by circadian rhythm. METHODS： Between January 2003 and December 2004, twenty patients who were diagnosed as suffering from primary, resectable, non-metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lower rectum, infiltrating the sphincter mechanism, underwent abdominoperineal resection, total mesorectal excision and permanent left iliac colostomy. In formalinfixed and paraffin-embedded biopsy specimens obtained from the colostomy mucosa every six hours （00：00, 06：00, 12：00, 18：00 and 24：00）, we studied the expression of G1 phase cyclins （D1 and E） as well as the expression of the G1 phase cyclin-dependent kinase （CDK） inhibitors p16 and p21 as indicators of cell cycle progres- sion in colonic epithelial cells using immunohistochemical methods. RESULTS： The expression of both cyclins showed a similar circadian fashion obtaining their lowest and highest values at 00：00 and 18：00, respectively （P〈 0.001）. A circadian rhythm in the expression of CDK inhibitor proteins p16 and p21 was also observed, with the lowest levels obtained at 12：00 and 18：00 （P〈0.001）, respectively. When the complexes cyclins D1-p21 and E-p21 were examined, the expression of the cyclins was adversely correlated to the p21 expression throughout the day. When the complexes the cyclins D1-p16 and E-p16 were examined, high levels of p16 expression were correlated to low levels of cyclin expression at 00：00, 06：00 and 24：00. Meanwhile, the highest expression levels of both cyclins were correlated to high levels of p16 expression at 18：00. CONCLUSION： Colonic epithelial cells seem to enter the G1 phase of the cell cycle during afternoon （between 12：00 and 18：00） with the highest rates obtained at 18：00. From a clinical point of view, the present results suggest that G1-phase specific anticancer therapies in afternoon might maximize their anti-tumor effect while minimizing toxicity.

Permeability in Flysch-Distribution Decrease with Depth and Grout Curtains Under Dams

A considerable number of in situ permeability tests in flysch are processed to a depth of 120m with a good spatial distribution. The distribution of permeability values for the different litho-types of this formation, their comparison and their decrease with depth is discussed. The depth where a permeability of 3 to 5×10-7m/sec can be retained (the limit of a reasonable grouting under a high dam) may be twofold if the geological history of the formation could not contain a compressional tectonic process. This depth may reach 100m in some cases. The differences in the mean values of permeability among the various litho-types are minor, while the presence of siltstones, always present although with varied participation, dramatically controls the global permeability.

The estimated annual incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest(OHCA)is approximately 120 cases per 100000 inhabitants in western *** the rates of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR)and use of automated external defibrillator are increasing,the likelihood of survival to hospital discharge is no more than 8%.To date,various devices and methods have been utilized in the initial CPR approach targeting to improve survival and neurological outcomes in OHCA *** aim of this review is to discuss strategies that facilitate resuscitation,increase the chance to achieve return to spontaneous circulation and improve survival to hospital discharge and neurological outcomes in the prehospital setting.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a promising technique to increase spectral efficiency and support various emerging applications by sharing the spectrum and hardware between these functionalities. However, the traditional ISAC schemes are highly dependent on the accurate mathematical model and suffer from the challenges of high complexity and poor performance in practical scenarios. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a viable technique to address these issues due to its powerful learning capabilities, satisfactory generalization capability, fast inference speed, and high adaptability for dynamic environments, facilitating a system design shift from model-driven to data-driven. Intelligent ISAC, which integrates AI into ISAC, has been a hot topic that has attracted many researchers to investigate. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of intelligent ISAC, including its motivation, typical applications, recent trends, and challenges. In particular, we first introduce the basic principle of ISAC, followed by its key techniques. Then, an overview of AI and a comparison between model-based and AI-based methods for ISAC are provided. Furthermore, the typical applications of AI in ISAC and the recent trends for AI-enabled ISAC are reviewed. Finally, the future research issues and challenges of intelligent ISAC are discussed.

First Search for Pulsed CH Maser Emission Stimulated by a Pulsar

We present the first search for pulsed CH maser emission potentially stimulated by PSR J1644-4559,conducted using the ultra-wide-bandwidth low-frequency receiver on Murriyang,CSIRO's Parkes Radio *** targeted three CHΛ-doublet transitions at 3264,3335,and 3349 MHz,with a variability timescale of78 *** detected ten CH emission features at 3335 and 3349 MHz,and seven features at 3264 MHz,during both pulsar-ON and pulsar-OFF *** observed velocities align with the OH emission and absorption reported by a previous study,suggesting a close spatial association between CH and OH *** derived column densities for CH clouds within the Parkes beam range from 0.05 to 9.8×1013cm-2,indicating that these clouds are likely in diffuse and translucent *** limits for CH column densities within the pulsar beam ranged from 0.3 to 9.8×*** of these column densities suggests that CH clouds may exhibit clumpiness and *** significant stimulated emission feature was detected in the optical depth ***,as part of our search for pulsed stimulated emission,we investigated the potential CH absorption of the pulsar signal and found none,in agreement with astrophysical *** upper limits for the potential maser amplification factors towards PSR J1644-4559 at 3264,3335,and 3349 MHz are 1.014,1.009,and 1.009,*** study demonstrates the feasibility of detecting pulsed CH maser emission in the interstellar medium stimulated by pulsar photons.

Polyethylene glycol fusion repair of severed sciatic nerves accelerates recovery of nociceptive sensory perceptions in male and female rats of different strains

Cybersecurity Guide for SMEs: Protecting Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Digital Era

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are considered the backbone of global economy, but they often face cyberthreats which threaten their financial stability and operational continuity. This work aims to offer a proactive cybersecurity approach to safeguard SMEs against these threats. Furthermore, to mitigate these risks, we propose a comprehensive framework of practical and scalable cybersecurity measurements/protocols specifically for SMEs. These measures encompass a spectrum of solutions, from technological fortifications to employee training initiatives and regulatory compliance strategies, in an effort to cultivate resilience and awareness among SMEs. Additionally, we introduce a specially designed a Java-based questionnaire software tool in order to provide an initial framework for essential cybersecurity measures and evaluation for SMEs. This tool covers crucial topics such as social engineering and phishing attempts, implementing antimalware and ransomware defense mechanisms, secure data management and backup strategies and methods for preventing insider threats. By incorporating globally recognized frameworks and standards like ISO/IEC 27001 and NIST guidelines, this questionnaire offers a roadmap for establishing and enhancing cybersecurity measures.
