Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a progressive and neurodegenerative illness which results in alterations in cognitive *** is characterized by loss/dysfunction of cholinergic neurons,and formation of amyloid plaques,and formation of neurofibrillary tangles,among other changes,due to hyperphosphorylation of *** to pesticides in humans occurs frequently due to contact with contaminated food,water,or ***,organophosphates,carbamates,pyrethroids and neonicotinoids are associated with the most diagnosed incidents of severe cognitive *** aim of this study was to determine the effects of these pesticides on the phosphorylation of tau protein,and its cognitive implications in the development of *** was found that exposure to pesticides increased the phosphorylation of tau protein at sites Ser198,Ser199,Ser202,Thr205,Ser396 and *** with these chemicals altered the enzymatic activities of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 and glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta,and protein ***,it altered the expression of the microtubule associated protein tau gene,and changed levels of intracellular *** changes affected tau protein phosphorylation and neuroinflammation,and also increased oxidative *** addition,the exposed subjects had poor level of performance in tests that involved evaluation of novelty,as test on verbal,non-verbal,spatial memory,attention,and problem-solving skills.

Insulin,a key pleiotropic hormone,regulates metabolism through several signaling pathways in target tissues including skeletal muscle,liver,and *** the brain,insulin modulates learning and memory,and impaired insulin signaling is associated with metabolic dysregulation and neurodegenerative *** the receptor level,in aging and Alzheimer’s disease(AD)models,the amount of insulin receptors and their functions are *** and animal model studies suggest that memory improvements are due to changes in insulin ***,diabetes mellitus(DM)and insulin resistance are associated with age-related cognitive decline,increased levels ofβ-amyloid peptide,phosphorylation of tau protein;oxidative stress,pro-inflammatory cytokine production and dyslipidemia. Recent evidence shows that deleting brain insulin receptors leads to mildobesity and insulin resistance without influencing brain size and apoptosis ***, deleting insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IgF-1R) affects brain size anddevelopment, and contributes to behavior changes. Insulin is synthesized locally in the brain andis released from the neurons. Here, we reviewed proposed pathophysiological hypotheses toexplain increased risk of dementia in the presence of DM. Regardless of the exact sequence ofevents leading to neurodegeneration, there is strong evidence that mitochondrial dysfunctionplays a key role in AD and DM. A triple transgenic mouse model of AD showed mitochondrialdysfunction, oxidative stress, and loss of synaptic integrity. These alterations are comparable tothose induced in wild-type mice treated with sucrose, which is consistent with the proposal thatmitochondrial alterations are associated with DM and contribute to AD development. Alterationsin insulin/IgF-1 signaling in DM could lead to mitochondrial dysfunction and low antioxidantcapacity of the cell. Let B （resp. K, BC,KC） denote the set of all nonempty bounded （resp. compact, bounded convex, compact convex） closed subsets of the Banach space X, endowed with the Hausdorff metric, and let g be a nonempty relatively weakly compact closed subset of X. Let B° stand for the set of all F ∈B such that the problem （F, g） is well-posed. We proved that, if X is strictly convex and Kadec, the set KC ∩ B° is a dense gδ-subset of KC ／ g. Furthermore, if X is a uniformly convex Banach space, we will prove more, namely that the set B ／B° （resp. K ／ B°, BC ／B°, KC ／ B°） is a-porous in B （resp. K,BC, KC）. Moreover, we prove that for most （in the sense of the Baire category） closed bounded subsets g of X, the set K ／ B° is dense and uncountable in K.

Magnesium rechargeable batteries(MRBs)present opportunities for grid-scale energy storage applications as a complement to Li-ion batteries(LIBS).The major challenges are the low reversible capacity,inferior cycling stability and unsatisfactory energy ***_(3)VCr_(0.5)Fe_(0.5)(PO_(4))_(3) with a well-defined NASIONtype structure is used as cathode in Mg ***-electrons reaction(~116 m Ah/g),1.5 V average voltage and 65%of capacity retention over 100 cycles are *** is inserted by a biphasic reaction with the participation of V3+/V4+/V5+redox couples in the electrochemical reaction while the non-active redox couples such as Cr^(3+)/Cr^(4+)and Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)served as stabilizer to buffer the volume variation.A thermal stability up to~412℃ is also ***,incorporating a mixture of three transition metal(V/Cr/Fe)in this type of structures will broaden new perspectives for realizing high performance cathodes for MRBs.

The transforming growth factor-β(TgF-β)family plays major pleiotropic roles by regulating many physiological processes in development and tissue *** TgF-βsignaling pathway outcome relies on the control of the spatial and temporal expression of>500 genes,which depend on the functions of the Smad protein along with those of diverse modulators of this signaling pathway,such as transcriptional factors and ***(Sloan-Kettering Institute)and SnoN(Ski novel)are Smadinteracting proteins that negatively regulate the TgF-βsignaling pathway by disrupting the formation of R-Smad/Smad4 complexes,as well as by inhibiting Smad association with the p300/CBP *** Ski and SnoN transcriptional cofactors recruit diverse corepressors and histone deacetylases to repress gene *** TgF-β/Smad pathway and coregulators Ski and SnoN clearly regulate each other through several positive and negative feedback ***,these cross-regulatory processes finely modify the TgF-βsignaling outcome as they control the magnitude and duration of the TgF-β*** a result,any alteration in these regulatory mechanisms may lead to disease ***,the design of targeted therapies to exert tight control of the levels of negative modulators of the TgF-βpathway,such as Ski and SnoN,is critical to restore cell homeostasis under the specific pathological conditions in which these cofactors are deregulated,such as fibrosis and cancer.

Effects of Different Types of Sludge on Soil Microbial Properties:A Field Experiment on Degraded Mediterranean Soils

The recycling of suitable organic wastes can enhance soil fertility via effects on soil physical, chemical and biological properties. To compare the effects of digested (DS), thermally dried (TDS) and composted dewatered (CDS) sewage sludge on soil microbiological properties, an experiment was conducted at field sites for more than one year (401 d) when applied to two Mediterranean degraded soils (loam and loamy sand soils). All three types of sewage sludge had a significant effect on measured parameters. In a short time, the plots of both loamy sand and loam soils amended with TDS showed the highest microbial basal respiration (loam soil: P ghest microbial metabolic quotient (qCO 2 ) (P ge caused transient non-equilibrium effects on almost all soil microbial properties. However, there were no differences one year later because the remaining organic carbon was stable and quite similar in all treatments. These results may have practical implications for the rehabilitation of degraded soils.

BACKgROUND Blink and masseter reflexes provide reliable,quantifiable data on the function of the central nervous system:Delayed latencies have been found in patients with neurocognitive disorder(ND)and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),but this has not been studied in patients with both *** To investigate if older adults with ND plus T2DM have prolonged latencies of blink and masseter-reflex and if they were associated with disease *** This cross-sectional study included 227 older adults(>60 years)from Colima,*** disorder was identified by a neuropsychological battery test,and T2DM identified by medical history,fasting glucose,and glycosylated *** in the early reflex(R1),ipsilateral late(R2),and contralateral late(R2c)components of the blink reflex were analyzed for all subjects,and 183 subjects were analyzed for latency of the masseter *** In 20.7%of participants,ND was *** 37%,T2DM was *** in R1,R2,and R2c were significantly prolonged for groups with ND plus T2DM,ND,and T2DM,compared with the control group(Pged in older adults(regardless of T2DM status)with ND vs controls(P=0.030).In older adults with ND and without T2DM,the more the cognitive impairment progressed,the more prolonged latencies in R2 and R2c presented(Pgs suggest that blink and masseter reflexes could be used to evaluate possible changes in brainstem circuits in older adults with ND and T2DM.
