BACKGROUND To achieve the elimination of hepatitis B and C,there is an urgent need to develop alternative strategies to increase the access of diagnosis,particularly among key populations such as people living with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV),individuals with coagulopathies and chronic kidney disease(CKD)*** To evaluate the use of dried blood spot(DBS)in the detection of hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)*** A total of 430 individuals comprised of people living with HIV,coagulopathies and CKD provided paired serum and DBS ***,anti-HBc and anti-HCV were tested in those samples using a commercial *** and selected behavioral variables were evaluated to assess possible association with HBV and HCV *** Using DBS,HBsAg prevalence varied from 3.9%to 22.1%,anti-HBc rates varied from 25.5%to 45.6%and anti-HCV positivity ranged from 15.9%to 41.2%in key *** of HBV and HCV tests using DBS varied from 88.9%to 100%.The HBsAg assay demonstrated the best performance in CKD and coagulopathy individuals and the anti-HCV test had a sensitivity and specificity of 100%in people living with *** of HBV and HCV detection in DBS varied from 90.2%to 100%.In the CKD group,HBsAg positivity was associated with infrequent use of condoms,and anti-HBc positivity was associated with sharing nail cutters/razors/***-HCV reactivity was positively associated with a history of transplantation and length of time using hemodialysis in both *** people living with HIV,only the male gender was associated with anti-HBc positivity in serum and *** DBS with electrochemiluminescence are useful tools for the diagnosis and prevalence studies of hepatitis B and C among key populations and may increase the opportunity to foster prevention and treatment.

Low expression of angiotensinogen and dipeptidyl peptidase 1 in saliva of patients with proliferative verrucous leukoplakia

AIM To elucidate the profile of the salivary *** Unstimulated whole mouth saliva was collected from 30 volunteers [15 proliferative verrucous leukoplakia(PVL) patients and 15 controls] and proteins were submitted for mass spectrometry-based proteomics using the discovery approach,followed by analyses of variance and logistic regression *** A total of two hundred and eighty-three proteins were confidently identified in *** combining two low abundance proteins from the PVL group,angiotensinogen(AGT) and dipeptidyl peptidase 1(DPP1),a model for group differentiation was built with a concordance index of 94.2%,identifying both proteins as potential etiologic biomarkers for *** This study suggests that both AGT and DPP1 may be involved in developmental mechanisms of PVL.

A Tool for the Assessment of the Electromagnetic Forces in Power Distribution Transformers

This paper compares the estimated electromagnetic forces due to short circuits in power transformers using two computational models. The first model is based on approximate analytical expressions of the electromagnetic lbrces as they have been compiled in earlier versions of the IEC standard 60076-5. The second model is based on a finite element model of the transformer using the software FEMM （Finite Element Method Magnetics）. The paper shows how valid the analytical model is for design purposes. Results have been obtained and compared from both models in a number of actual power distribution transformers. It is possible to conclude that the analytical formulation provides satisfactory results for the design of power transformers compared to detailed finite element models. A tool has been designed for this purpose and the main features of it will be described in the paper.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
