Comparison of Surgical Techniques Used in Treating Acromioclavicular Dislocation in Patients Participating in Sports: A Systematic Review

Introduction: The acromioclavicular joint is a superficial diarthrodial joint that surrounds the medial articular facet of the acromion and the distal portion of the clavicle. Due to its anatomy and biomechanics, it is highly susceptible to trauma and in young men who play contact sports, acromioclavicular dislocation is common. This article aimed to systematically review the literature and compare the surgical techniques used in the treatment of acromioclavicular dislocation in patients who practice sports. Methods: This systematic review was conducted according to the International Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Eligible studies for this systematic review included articles in English or Spanish published between 2013 and 2023, which mention the occurrence of acromioclavicular dislocation during sports practices. Additionally, only studies that addressed the surgical treatment of acromion-clavicular dislocation and contained original data on the topic were included. Results: We found 144 eligible studies after searching the LILACS and PubMed databases. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and the reviewers’ consensus, we selected four studies for the systematic review. 133 patients with AC joint displacement were evaluated. Mean Age: approximately 31.90 years. 81.92 of these injuries occurred during sports practice. Surgical Procedures Used: titanium plates fixation (49 patients), arthroscopy (24), single tunnel technique (30) and coracoid sling technique (30). The results of the visual analog scale and Constant-Murley scores varied between the techniques used. Twenty-two complications after surgical treatment were identified. Conclusion: A significant variability of operative techniques can be used in the surgical approach of acromioclavicular dislocation, such as arthroscopy, single tunnel, coracoid sling and titanium plates. OI 630.0 nm airglow observations,from a new observatory at Bom Jesus de Lapa,were used to study the interaction between EPBs(Equatorial Plasma Bubbles)and the MSTID(Medium-Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbance)over the Northeast region in *** the night of September 16 to 17,2020,an EPB was observed propagating eastward,in an apparent fossil stage,until it interacted with a dark band electrified MSTID(e MSTID).After the interaction,four EPBs merged,followed by an abrupt southward development and *** of the data suggests that an eastward polarization electric field,induced by the dark band e MSTID,forced the EPB into an upward drift,growing latitudinally along the magnetic field lines and then bifurcating.

The Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is a formula of a traditional Chinese medicine that is used to treat asthma patients and has been shown to have several important properties,such as antioxidant and free radical scavenging *** influence of an extract of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan on the labeling of blood constituents with technetium-99m was *** blood(Wistar rats) was incubated with the extract,stannous chloride and technetium-99m,as sodium *** were centrifuged and aliquots of plasma and blood cells were separated and precipitated with trichloroacetic acid,to obtain soluble and insoluble fractions of the blood *** percentage of radioactivity(%ATI) in all the fractions was *** analysis of the results shows that the extract at the highest concentration used(70 mg/mL) decreased significantly(Pgest that the substances present on this extract can alter this labeling process,probably due to(i) redox properties(antioxidant and chelator activities) and/or(ii) specific actions in the binding sites where the 99mTc would be bound on the blood *** a consequence,precaution is suggested on the interpretation of the nuclear medicine results from performed with blood constituents labeled with 99m Tc in patients that have undertaken LWDHW,although the current findings were obtained in experimental animal models.

A Disruptive Treatment to Prevent Amputation and Enhance Limb Salvage in an Elderly Patient

Background: Chronic wounds are a growing problem internationally, termed a silent epidemic. To combat this epidemic, it is not sufficient to rely on traditional wound care treatments alone, but to look to innovative and alternative therapies. The indispensable role of oxygen in wound healing is well-discussed in the literature, and in the past two decades the topical application of oxygen has shown promising results in the healing of chronic wounds. However, the toxic effects of oxygen are usually not appreciated and can often lead to wound necrosis and gangrene in wounds with compromised blood supply. While wounds with adequate blood supply contain free radical quenchers (catalase, superoxide dismutase and reduced glutathione) which neutralize the free radicals (reactive oxygen species) released as a by-product of the Krebs cycle, wounds with deficient blood supply are deficient in free radical quenchers and are further damaged by exposure to oxygen as a result of reperfusion injury/oxygen toxicity. Topical hyperbaric oxygen (THOT®) uses low oxygen tensions in the hyperbaric range to stimulate angiogenesis, while preventing excessive oxygen toxicity. The result is the induction of marked angiogenesis, with increasing capacity for quenching reactive oxygen species, resulting in wound healing of ischemic wounds. Case Presentation: This case report describes a 95-year-old Caucasian female who presented with a stage IV chronic necrotic ulcer on her lower left leg. Surgical pathology results revealed calcifying vasculopathy, which is thought to be responsible for deficient blood supply to the leg, leading to a necrotic, chronic leg ulcer of her left leg. After traditional wound therapies were unsuccessful, she was considered for leg amputation. The introduction of adjunctive treatment with topical hyperbaric oxygen therapy saw complete healing of the wound within 15 weeks.
