Hydrochemical and groundwater quality of High Bandama watershed were investigated through thirty-five (35) samples composed of boreholes, hand pump wells and traditional wells. The analysis of physico-chemical parameters shows that groundwater is acidic with pH ranges from 3.2 to 6.9 and mean of 5.4. Electrical conductivity (EC) values were generally low and minimum and maximum were respectively 77 μS/cm and 553 μS/cm with an average of 250.3 μS/cm. Major cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+ and K+) were also generally low. Ca2+ and Mg2+ are being the most dominants cations with concentration values ranges from 4 - 56 mg/l and 0 - 55 mg/l respectively with mean value of 18.11 and 15.31 mg/l. HCO3? is the most dominant anion with minimum and maximum values ranging from 5 to 215 mg/l. According to WHO guidelines, groundwater quality is good for drinking. Piper diagram classified the hydrogeochemical facies into Ca-HCO3 (48.57%), Ca-Mg-HCO3 (31.43%), Ca-Mg-Cl (17.14%) and Na-Cl (2.86%) water type with one sample for Na-Cl. Compositional relation with plot of Ca + Mg versus HCO3 + SO4 and Chloro Alkaline Indice (CAI) confirms that the majority of groundwater samples (66.67%) exchange their ions Ca and Mg with Na and K from aquifer materials. Gibbs diagram showed that the rock-water interaction or weathering is the dominant process responsible of water chemistry.

In the department of Zouan-Hounien, gold mining is booming. This activity, marked by the excavation of rocks and the use of chemicals such as mercury, is likely to contaminate the region’s groundwater resources and expose populations to serious diseases. This study aims to assess the health risks associated with the consumption of this water by the population. To this end, 72 groundwater samples were taken in eight (08) villages of the department at the rate of forty-six (46) well water samples and twenty-six (26) borehole water samples. A total of twenty-twenty-three wells and thirteen boreholes were sampled during two campaigns. An atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS) was used to determine the concentrations of metallic trace elements (MTEs), such as mercury (Hg), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), Arsenic (As), and iron (Fe) in the different samples. The daily exposure doses for oral ingestion (CDIing) and skin contact (Expderm) were calculated. The non-carcinogenic (HQ) and carcinogenic risks (CR) were estimated. The results show that the mean concentrations of Fe, Pb, Hg, As and Cd are respectively 2233.48 > 3.10 > 0.60 > 1.18 > 0.08 μg·l-1 in the wells and 2427.94 > 4.08 > 1.27 > 1.76 > 0.08 μg·l-1 in boreholes. Evaluating the risks to human health reveals that the mean values of hazard quotient (HQ) and cancer risk (CR) for all the elements in the wells and boreholes are lower than 1 and 10-4 respectively in children and adults for oral and dermal exposure. However, at the oral exposure level, 9 wells and 6 boreholes recorded HQ and CR above the defined critical limits. The lack of knowledge about fracture systems in Tanda region has led to an approximative establishment of drilling and so a difficult access to groundwater. Thus, a multidisciplinary approach including satellite imagery and electrical resistivity method was conducted with the main objective to locate productive fractures of water in the study area. Indeed, 195-54, 195-55, 196-54, and 196-55 scenes of landsat 7 ETM+ satellite images were used. Also, sixty-two (62) vertical electrical soundings (VES) of the Schlumberger configuration and hundred twenty-nine (129) electrical trailing (ET) were performed with a resistivity-meter SYSCAl Pro. Thanks to different treatments applied to satellite images, structural lineaments have been extracted whose main directions are N00-10 (N-S), N90-100 (E-W), N70-80 and N100-110. The interpretation of electrical trailing data made it possible to validate the lineament map by the determination of the fracturing directions. Those are NW-SE, N-S, NE-SW and to some extent E-W. The result of the electrical sounding data showed the presence of three geoelectric layers comprising firstly cuirass and lateritic clays and possibly topsoil, secondly sands and/or clay sandstone and firdly either granites or sandstones or schists. The second geoelectrical layer corresponds to the potential aquifer because of its relatively low electrical resistivity values (13 Ω·m to 180 or 240 Ω·m). In addition, drillings established at the right of these geological structures provided an average water yield of 4.22 m3·h-1, sufficient for rural hydraulic. Moreover, these results made it possible to obtain a correlation between drilling productivity and the major directions of fracturing. This indicates that the most productive directions are in order of importance NE-SW, NW-SE, E-W and finally N-S. They also correspond to the major fracturing directions of Tanda region. Sub-Saharan Africa is witnessing a proliferation of photovoltaic(PV)waste due to the increasing number of solar PV power *** waste(panels,batteries,electrical cables,mounting structures,and inverters)consists of elements such as mercury,cadmium,chromium,lead,copper,aluminum,fluorinated compounds,and plastics that are toxic to human health and the environment if a proper management system is not *** many studies worldwide have focused on PV waste management,very few have been conducted in sub-Saharan *** study aims to investigate the current PV waste management system in Burkina Faso,determine stakeholder profiles,and propose strategies to enhance the existing *** research,interviews,questionnaires,and field visits were used in the *** survey showed that young people,mainly under 30 years of age and with a primary education,dominate(70%)in terms of PV waste collection and repair activities,while the more technical recycling and export activities are carried out mainly(88%)by stakeholders older than 40 years and with a secondary education(60%).Among the older stakeholders,100%are aware of the hazardous nature of PV waste,whereas 36%are young *** an environmental perspective,the main source of contamination observed is the release of lead-rich sulfuric acids into water and soil during the collection and repair *** the recycling of batteries and electrical cables,toxic fumes are emitted into the air,and recycling residues rich in toxic substances are *** reduce risks to human health and the environment when managing PV waste,the introduction of legislation,the multiplication of collection points and appropriate infrastructures,the training and awareness-raising of stakeholders,and the extended responsibility of manufacturers are *** on the economic feasibility of setting up formal management structures are needed to complete this work.

Over the last decade, the rapid growth in traffic and the number of network devices has implicitly led to an increase in network energy consumption. In this context, a new paradigm has emerged, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), which is an emerging technique that separates the control plane and the data plane of the deployed network, enabling centralized control of the network, while offering flexibility in data center network management. Some research work is moving in the direction of optimizing the energy consumption of SD-DCN, but still does not guarantee good performance and quality of service for SDN networks. To solve this problem, we propose a new mathematical model based on the principle of combinatorial optimization to dynamically solve the problem of activating and deactivating switches and unused links that consume energy in SDN networks while guaranteeing quality of service (QoS) and ensuring load balancing in the network.

Radiation Dose from CT-Scan of Childhood’s Head: Results of the First Ivorian Survey in a Single Study Site

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the level of X-ray doses used in childhood’s head as local Diagnostic Reference levels (lDRls) in computed tomography (CT) at a university hospital in Côte d’Ivoire. The Diagnostic Reference level (DRl) have been set up and used to prevent unusually high radiation doses used in radiology departments and is therefore an optimization tool for practices and procedures in medical X-ray imaging for the radiation protection of patients. Methods: A prospective study of volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose length product (DlP) was performed on images of childhood’s head obtained from a CT-scanner of 64 bars equipped with the tube current modulation capability and manufactured by Hitachi Medical System. 122 CT-scan data from 55 childhood’s head were analyzed. The scan data were stratified in four age groups: Results: The 75th percentile of CTDIvol and DlP (set as lDRl) obtained with respect to the stratified age groups are: 22.5 mGy and 452.5 mGy∙cm, 27.7 mGy and 690.6 mGy∙cm, 28 mGy and 722.4 mGy∙cm, 33.6 mGy and 736.8 mGy∙cm respectively. These outcome values increase with respect to the age of pediatric patients and are comparable to DRls values obtained internationally. Conclusions: Obtaining good image quality while using low dose in children’s head computed tomography for radiation protection require to setup more surveys in Côte d’Ivoire for regional and national DRl. We proposed through this survey lDRls in terms of CTDIvol and DlP, comparable to international DRls values. This survey will be strengthened by additional surveys in order to obtain national DRls for the radiation protection of the child patient in Côte d’Ivoire.

Corrective Effect of the Angle of Incidence of the Magnetic Field Intensity on the Performance (Series and Shunt Resistances) of a Bifacial Silicon Solar Cell

This article presents a three-dimensional analysis of the impact of the angle of incidence of the magnetic field intensity on the electrical performance (series resistance, shunt resistance) of a bifacial polycrystalline silicon solar cell. The cell is illuminated simultaneously from both sides. The continuity equation for the excess minority carriers is solved at the emitter and at the depth of the base respectively. The analytical expressions for photocurrent density, photovoltage, series resistance and shunt resistance were deduced. Using these expressions, the values of the series and shunt resistances were extracted for different values of the angle of incidence of the magnetic field intensity. The study shows that as the angle of incidence increases, the slopes of the minority carrier density for the two modes of operation of the solar cell decrease. This is explained by a drop in the accumulation of carriers in the area close to the junction due to the fact that the lorentz force is unable to drive the carriers towards the lateral surfaces due to the weak action of the magnetic field, which tends to cancel out as the incidence angle increases, and consequently a drop in the open circuit photovoltage. This, in turn, reduces the lorentz force. These results predict that the p-n junction of the solar cell will not heat up. The study also showed a decrease in series resistance as the incidence angle of the magnetic field intensity increased from 0 rad to π/2 rad and an increase in shunt resistance as the incidence angle increased. His behaviour of the electrical parameters when the angle of incidence of the field from 0 rad to π/2 rad shows that the decreasing magnetic field vector tends to be collinear with the electron trajectory. This allows them to cross the junction and participate in the external current. The best orientation for the lorentz force is zero, in which case the carriers can move easily towards the junction.

The economy of West African countries is mainly based on agriculture. However, the trace metal(loid)s contamination status in rivers is relatively unknown in the region. In this work, 45 surface sediments collected from the Bandama, Comoé, and Bia Rivers in south and south eastern Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa), were analyzed for total metal concentrations and chemical speciation. The results showed that the river sediments were considerably contaminated by Cd and moderately contaminated by As, Cu, Pb, and Zn. Significant spatial variations were observed among the stations but not between the rivers. Metals Cd and Cu were likely to cause more ecological risks. The speciation analysis unravelled that the metal(loid)s partitioned mainly in the residual fraction, with the potential mobile fraction varying from 14% to 28%. The study calls for establishment of strict policies relative to the application of fertilizers and agrochemicals and mining activities to protect the environment and human health risks.

Evaluation of Soil Quality under Cocoa Trees in the Marahoué Region (Central-Western Côte d’Ivoire)

This study, which assesses the quality of soils under cocoa trees in the Marahoué region of Côte d’Ivoire, is being carried out against a backdrop of declining crop yields due to a number of factors, including the loss of soil fertility. The aim was to identify homogeneous groups of soils in terms of fertility and propose sustainable management methods for each group. The study was carried out on twenty-four cocoa orchards belonging to the SCOOP KAPATCHIVA cooperative, spread over eight sectors. A morphological characterisation of the soils was carried out in the field, followed by physico-chemical laboratory analyses of soil samples taken in the field. Soil fertility was analyzed on the basis of these two groups of data. The results showed that soil depths were generally high, except in some high altitude areas, where soils were often enriched in ferromagnesian elements and compacted. The texture of the soils varied between loamy and sandy-loamy, influencing cocoa production. Indeed, the soils of the plots with high production were looser and without ferromagnesian concretions, while those of the plots with low production were more gravelly and compact. Biological activity in the upper soil layer (0 - 30 cm) was notable with an abundance of termites and earthworms. The organic matter and nitrogen content varies considerably between sectors, directly impacting soil fertility. The soils were slightly acidic and showed significant differences in the levels of exchangeable magnesium and potassium, and not at all for phosphorus which appeared at very low doses. Chemical analysis also revealed that nutrient balance was a key factor in orchard productivity, with varying ratios of calcium, magnesium and potassium. Knowledge of these results made it possible to make recommendations for soil management with a view to improving cocoa yields in the study area.

Most motor oils are made from mineral oils derived from petroleum, the reserves of which are limited and exhaustible. The aim of this study is to produce and characterize motor oil formulations based on mixtures of rubber latex cup bottom oil (RlCBO) and used frying oil (UFO). The results show that these formulations have a density between 0.91 and 0.92. These densities evolve linearly with the proportion of cup bottom oil and temperature. Similarly, the kinematic viscosity of the blends follows an exponential relationship with temperature. By plotting the logarithm of these kinematic viscosities against the inverse of the temperature, we were able to determine the activation energy of the various blends and deduce that the formulations behave Newtonian.
