Fresh-cut lettuce is widely used in ready-to-eat salads sold in modified atmosphere packages (MAp).Even in MAp,fresh-cut lettuce has short shelf life that results in loss of *** cultivars exhibit genetic variation for shelf life in MAp,but their variation for nutrient retention is not *** accessions were evaluated for initial content of ascorbic acid (AsA),carotenoids,and sugars and their retention in *** with high content and/or good retention of one or more nutrients were *** romaine accession ‘Floricos’ had high levels of all the three *** with relatively high retention of all the three nutrients were ‘Salinas 88’,‘Siskiyou’,‘Solar’,SM09A,‘Romance’,and ‘Green Towers’.Romaine cultivars,‘Balady Barrage’,‘Green Towers’,and ‘Darkland’ had relatively high initial levels of all tested nutrients and good rate of their *** was no clear correlation between initial AsA/carotene concentrations and their retention rates,suggesting that besides content,retention of nutrients should also be a breeding target in a lettuce nutritional improvement *** analyses with the pearson's correlation coefficient determined a negative relationship between tissue deterioration(AUDepS) and retention of all tested nutrients[r of-0.52 (pppperiments was0.15 for AsA,0.23 for total carotene,and 0.50 for total *** of germplasm with high nutrient content,extended shelf life and good nutrient retention provides valuable information for the lettuce industry and associated breeding programs.

This study aims to systematically evaluate and extend the validity domains of multiple mechanistic models of chemical emissions from building materials. We compare the validity domain of the analytical solution with four numerical solutions for a single layer material with one convective surface and a wide range of chemical properties, material thicknesses, and simulation time. We also develop a parsimonious simplified model, ensuring the widest possible validity domain with minimum simulation time. For diffusion coefficients lower than 10−15 m^(2)/s, accuracy of the analytical solution requires at least 5000 positive roots. The numerical method using uneven discretization and finite difference approximation for the boundary conditions is the best numerical solution. The parsimonious combined D- and K-limited model achieves similar accuracy as the best numerical solution except slight overestimates at the interface between the D- and K-limited zones, while having simpler computations and much shorter simulation time. These models show good agreement against experimental data. This study demonstrates that the complex analytical solution can be well approximated by a simpler model with a wide validity domain, enabling the high-throughput screenings of a large number of chemical-product combinations.

This article reviews the Higgs searches at the Tevatron, as presented over the summer of 2012; both standard model （SM） and beyond the standard model （BSM） results are discussed as detailed （arXiv： 1207.0449; phys. Rev. Lett., 2012, 109： 071804; phys. Rev. D, 2012, 85： 032005）. We discuss the combination of searches by the CDF and DO Collaborations for the standard model Higgs boson in the mass range 100-200 GeV/c2 produced in the the gg →H, WH, ZH, tfH, and vector boson fusion production modes, and decaying in the H → bb, H → W＋W-, H → ZZ, H →π＋π-, and H →γγ modes. The data, collected at the Fermilab Tevatron collider in p/5 collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV, correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 10 fb^-1. In the absence of signal, we expect to exclude the regions 100 〈 mH 〈 120 GeV/c2 and 139 〈 mH 〈 184 GeV/c2. We exclude, at the 95% C.L., two regions： 100 〈 mH 〈 103 GeV/c2, and 147 〈 mH 〈 180 GeV/c2. We observe a significant excess of events in the mass range between 115 and 140 GeV/c2. The local significance corresponds to 3.0 standard deviations at mH = 120 GeV/ce; the global significance （incorporating the lookelsewhere effect） for such an excess anywhere in the full mass range investigated is approximately 2.5 standard deviations. Furthermore, we separately combine searches for H→ bb-, H → W＋W- and H →γγ. We find that the excess is concentrated in the H →bb channel, appearing in the searches over a broad range of raN; the maximum local significance of 3.3 standard deviations corresponds to a global significance of approximately 3.1 standard deviations. The observed signal strengths in all channels are consistent with the expectation for a standard model Higgs boson at mH = 125 GeV/c2. The production of neutral Higgs bosons in association with b-quarks can be significantly enhanced in various beyond the standard model scenarios, including Supersymmetry. The recent combination of such searches from the two collaborations is discussed.

The prediction of a variety of polymer properties from their monomer composition has been a challenge for material informatics,and their development can lead to a more effective exploration of the material *** this work,pOLYMERGNN,a multitask machine learning architecture that relies on polymeric features and graph neural networks has been developed towards this *** provides accurate estimates for polymer properties based on a database of complex and heterogeneous polyesters(linear/branched,homopolymers/copolymers)with experimentally refined *** pOLYMERGNN,each polyester is represented as a set of monomer units,which are introduced as molecular graphs.A virtual screening of a large,computationally generated database with materials of variable composition was performed,a task that demonstrates the applicability of the pOLYMERGNN on future studies that target the exploration of the polymer ***,a discussion on the explainability of the models is provided.

Objectives To determine the relative densities of the GABAergic subpopulation defined by calcium-binding proteins and to further study the importance of changes in GABAergic interneurons on neuropathology in the hippocampus in schizophrenia cases. Methods The relative densities and neuronal body size of cells immunoreactive for the calcium-binding proteins parvalbumin and calretinin as well as the area size of the hippocampal sub-fields were determined from the hippocampal tissue sections taken from schizophrenic patients and well-matched control subjects (15 per group). Results No significant difference in the density of calretinin-immunoreactive neurons and the neuronal body size of calretinin-positive neurons was found between subject groups. Relative to normal controls, schizophrenic patients showed a significant and profound deficit in the relative densities of parvalbumin-immunoreactive neurons in all hippocampal sub-fields. These reductions were more apparent in male schizophrenic patients and were unrelated to antipsychotic drug treatment, age or duration of illness. Conclusion The findings provide further evidence to support a profound and selective abnormality of a sub-population of GABAergic neurons in the hippocampus in schizophrenia cases, and are consistent with the etiological hypothesis of the neurodevelopment of schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: The exact mechanism by which cyclooxy- genase-2 (COX-2) promotes inflammation in pancreatitis in obscure. This study was undertaken to investigate the role of COX-2 inhibition in an animal model of pancreati- tis , a disease process characterized by a systemic inflamma- tory response and ensuing neutrophil-mediated lung injury. METHODS: pancreatitis was induced in 24 Sprague-Daw- ley rats by intraperitoneal injection of 20% L-arginine (500 mg/100 g body weight). The animals were randomized into 3 groups (8 rats in each group); controls and rats with pancreatitis intravenously resuscitated with either normal saline (0.9% NaCl 3 ml/kg) at 24 and 48 hours or COX-2 inhibitor (parecoxib 1 mg/kg). pancreatic and lung inju- ries were assessed histologically. Lung injury was assessed utilizing wet;dry ratio and myeloperoxidase activity to in- dicate pulmonary neutrophil infiltration. A Western blot was used to determine COX-2 protein expression in pancrea- tic tissue. RESULTS: The animals treated with COX-2 inhibitors dis- played significantly less pancreatic and lung injuries than their normal saline counterparts. Histological pancreatic and lung injury scores were significantly reduced (p p. Lung wet: dry ratios were sig- nificantly improved and pulmonary neutrophil infiltration was attenuated in the COX-2 group (pprotein expression. CONCLUSION: This study shows, for the first time in a rat model, that adjuvant COX-2 inhibition significandy attenu- ates the severity of both pancreatitis and its associated sys- temic inflammatory response and end-organ injury.
