Tomato leaf Photosynthetic Responses to Humidity andTemperature Under Salinity and Water Deficit

Greenhouse tomato plants (lycopersicon esculentum Mill cv. Capello) were grown on peat-based substrate and treated with high (4.5 mS cm-1) and low (2.3 mS cm-1) nutrient solution electric conductivity(EC) under high and low substrate water contents. FOur weeks after the beginning of the treatments, photosynthesis (Th) was measured under different humidity and temperatures to examine the interactive effectswith rhizosphere salinity and water deficit. A rectangular hyperbolic model fitted the light-photosynthesiscurve. Photosynthetic capacity (PC) was decreased but quantum yield (YQ) was increased by rhizospheresalinity caused by high EC. PN was decreased by low humidity only in high EC- and/or water-stressed *** high photosynthetic photon flux (PPF), low humidity induced PC decline in water-stressed plants andPN oscillation in high-EC-treated plants. PN increased steadily as the leaf temperature changed from 18 Cto 23 and then decreased steadily from 23 to 38 . At 34 , PN decreased significantly in waterstressed plants. Dark respiration (RD) increased in an exponential manner as the leaf temperature changedfrom 18 to 38 to an extent about ten times higher under 38 than under 18 . Our data suggestedthat PN decrease under high temperature was attributed, st least in part, to the increased RD. RD in highEC- and/or water-stressed plants was higher than that in the plants of control under lower temperature butlower than that in the plants of control under high temperature. The analysis of stomatal and mesophyllconductance showed that low humidity effect was mainly through stomatal response while temperature effectwas mainly through biochemical functions. The result showed that environmental stresses affected PN in anadditive or synergistic manner.

Fading indirect effects in a warming arctic tundra

Indirect interactions in food webs can strongly influence the net effect of global change on ecological communities yet they are rarely quantified and hence remain poorly understood. Using a 22-year time series, we investigated climate-induced and predator-mediated indirect effects on grazing intensity in the tundra food web of Bylot Island, which experienced a warming trend over the last two decades. We evaluated the relative effects of environmental parameters on the proportion of plant biomass grazed by geese in wetlands and examined the temporal changes in the strength of these cascading effects. Migrating geese are the dominant herbivores on Bylot Island and can consume up to 60% of the annual production of wetland graminoids. Spring North Atlantic Oscillation, mid-summer temperatures and summer abundance of lemmings （prey sharing predators with geese） best-explained annual variation in grazing intensity. Goose grazing impact increased in years with high temperatures and high lemming abundance. However, the strength of these indirect effects on plants changed over time. Grazing intensity was weakly explained by environmental factors in recent years, which were marked by a sharp increase in plant primary production and steady decrease in grazing pressure. Indirect effects do not seem to be reversing the direct positive effect of warming on wetland plants. We suggest that cascading effects on plants may lag considerably behind direct effects in vertebrate dominated arctic communities, especially where key herbivore populations are strongly affected by factors outside of the Arctic [Current Zoology 60 （2）： 189-202, 2014].

The study presented hereby investigates experimentally and with CFD simulations the gas distribution effect on the hydrodynamic of a Geldart Group A turbulent fluidized bed. Experiments were carried out on a cold flow fluidized bed column with an even and uneven gas distribution. local solid volume fraction profiles were measured using optical probes at different bed heights and along two radial directions. Optical probe measurements allow catching a clear hydrodynamic difference between both even and uneven gas distributions. These results were then used to assess CFD simulations with the code Barracuda^(TM) (MP-PIC approach). It is noteworthy that the choice of drag correlation and boundary conditions strongly influences the agreement between the experimental and CFD results. Once the correct parameters are chosen, CFD simulations captured the effect of gas distribution changes.

Microwave Synthesis of CdTe/TGA Quantum Dots and Their Thermodynamic Interaction with Bovine Serum Albumin

The thioglycollic acid（TGA） as a capping agent, CdTe/TGA quantum dots（QDs） with excellent properties were synthesized under microwave irradiation. The TGA/Cd/Te molar ratios, reaction time, temperature and p H are the crucial factors for properties of QDs. The QDs were characterized by UVvis absorption and fluorescence spectra, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The experimental results show that when the p H value is 11.5 and molar ratio of TGA：Cd：Te is 1.2：1：0.4 at 100 ℃ heating for 15 min, the resulted QDs exhibit a high fluorescence quantum yield of 78%. The fluorescence full width at half maximum（FHMW） of QDs is around 23 nm. The products are spherical with average size of 3-5 nm. There is a strong coordination effect between TGA and Cd2＋. Moreover, the results of interaction between as-made QDs and bovine serum albumin（BSA） suggest that the QDs-BSA binding reaction is a static quenching. The negative values of free energy（△G〈0） suggest that the binding process is spontaneous, △H〈0 and △S〈0 show that hydrogen bonds and van der Waals interactions play a major role in the binding reaction between QDs and BSA.

The nitrogen-doped carbon dots(N-CDs)were prepared by using coke powder as carbon source and one-step hydrothermal *** N-CDs were studied as a fluorescent chemosensor for determining Cr(Ⅵ)in *** selective,sensitive,reproducibility and stability of as-prepared N-CDs were *** morphology,composition and properties of N-CDs were characterized by a series of *** fluorescence quenching of N-CDs by Cr(Ⅵ)was *** experimental results reveal that the obtained N-CDs have great hydrophilicity and strong luminescence properties,which demonstrates the successful doping of nitrogen into the *** surface-active groups and emission wavelength range of CDs increase due to the electronegativity and electron donor effect of doping N ***,the N-CDs exhibit good photochemical properties for the detection of Cr(Ⅵ),including a wide linear range from 0.3 to 200μM(R^(2)=0.9935)and a low detection limit of 0.10μM at the signal-to-noise ratio of 3(S/N=3).Moreover,the N-CDs as a sensor was used successfully for Cr(Ⅵ)detection in real water samples with recovery rates of 99.9%-110.6%.This sensor also shows highly reproducibility and *** N-CDs fluorescent chemical sensor may be a potential candidate for applying in the field of other fluorescent chemical sensing,catalysis,photoelectric devices and other fields.
