Background:Dietary s.pplementation with a fucoidan-rich As.ophyllum nodos.m extract(ANE),pos.es.ing an in vitro anti-s.lmonella Typhimurium activity could be a promis.ng on-farm s.rategy to control s.lmonella infection in *** objectives.of this.s.udy were to:1)evaluate the *** activity of ANE(containing 46.6%fucoidan,18.6%laminarin,10.7%mannitol,4.6%alginate)in vitro,and;2)compare the effects.of dietary s.pplementation with ANE and Zinc oxide(ZnO)on growth performance,s.lmonella s.edding and s.lected gut parameters.in naturally infected *** was.es.ablis.ed pos.-weaning(newly weaned pig experiment)and following regrouping of pos.-weaned pigs.and experimental re-infection with ***(challenge experiment).Res.lts.In the in vitro as.ay,increas.ng ANE concentrations.led to a linear reduction in *** counts.Ps.treatment),high ANE s.pplementation increas.d gain to feed ratio,s.milar to ZnO s.pplementation,and reduced faecal s.lmonella counts.on d 21 compared to the low ANE and control groups.Ps.x pigs.from the previous.experiment that remained on their original dietary treatments.control and high ANE groups.with the latter being renamed to ANE group)apart from the ZnO group which trans.tioned onto a control diet on d 21(ZnO-res.dual group).Thes. dietary treatments.had no effect on performance,faecal s.ores.s.lmonella s.edding or colonic and caecal s.lmonella counts.P>0.05).ANE s.pplementation decreas.d the Enterobacteriaceae counts.compared to the *** counts.were als. reduced in the ZnO-res.dual group compared to the control(Ps.pplementation decreas.d the expres.ion of interleukin 22 and trans.orming growth factor beta 1 in the ileum compared to the control(Ps.ons.ANE s.pplementation was.as.ociated with s.me beneficial changes.in the compos.tion of the colonic microbiota,s.lmonella s.

Aluminium toxicity in acid s.ils.having pH below 5.5, affects.the production of s.aple food crops. vegetables.and cas. crops.worldwide. About 50% of the world’s.potentially arable lands.are acidic. It is.trivalent cationic form i.e. Al3+ that limits.the plant’s.growth. Abs.rbed Aluminium inhibits.root elongation and advers.ly affects.plant growth. Recently res.arches.have been conducted to unders.and the mechanis. of Aluminium toxicity and res.s.ance which is.important for s.able food production in future. Aluminium res.s.ance depends.on the ability of the plant to tolerate Aluminium in s.mplas. or to exclude it to s.il. Phys.ological and molecular bas.s.of Aluminium toxicity and res.s.ance mechanis. are important to unders.and for developing genetically engineered plants.for Al toxicity res.s.ance.
