Specimens regarded as Thelonectria discophora(Thelonectria,Nectriaceae,Hypocreales)constitute a conspicuous group of saprobic fungi on decaying plant material,characterized by red perithecia each with a broad mammiform(nipple-like)*** asexual state is characterized by a cylindrocarpon-like morphology,with 3–5 septate macroconidia,unicellular microconidia and chlamydospores that are rarely produced in *** the past,*** was regarded as one species with a wide geographic ***,a recent study rejected the monophyly and cosmopolitan distribution of this species,and showed the existence of at least 16 cryptic species distributed in three main *** combining the results of phylogenetic analyses of six nuclear loci and morphological studies,we revised the taxonomy of the *** species complex,resulting in the description of 12 new species and four new combinations based on historic *** though molecular phylogenetic analyses strongly support the segregation of these species,and are in agreement with previous studies,individual diagnostic morphological characters for each species could not be ***,discrete morphological traits corresponding to each of the three main groups of species were *** could be differentiated based on the average values of morphological traits as well as the presence/absence of characteristic asexual propagules and colony growth at ***,illustrations are provided for the recognized species.

Objective: To study the frequency of interstitial 7q deletions in b-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (b-LPDs). Methods: Cases were collected from the clinical laboratory diagnosis database at USLabs/LabCorp over the past two years (2002 to 2004). Cases that showed deletions in the long arm of chromosome 7 were then reviewed. Interstitial deletions in the long arm of chromosome 7 were further investigated according to the indications for clinical laboratory studies and flow cytometry findings. The final clinical diagnosis for each case was obtained from the referring physician. Results: A total of 19 483 cases were included in this series. Eighty-five cases were observed to have either terminal or interstitial deletion in the long arm of chromosome 7. Of the 85 cases, 46 had interstitial deletions accounting for 54.1% of the 7q deletions combined. b-LPDs were found in 10 of the 46 cases, accounting for 21.7%. The b-LPDs associated with 7q interstitial deletions were diverse, including b-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (b-CLL) in five cases. The deleted region in the long arm of chromosome 7 in the 10 cases associated with b-LPDs was solely confined to the 7q22-q32 region. Conclusion: (1) The frequency of 7q interstitial deletions associated with b-LPDs is substantially high; (2) 7q interstitial deletions are not uncommon in b-CLL.

Objective To determine the risk factors for thromboembolism in lower risk patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation(AF)and low CHA2DS2-VASc scores,which remain *** We retrospectively analyzed the baseline clinical characteristics,routine laboratory parameters,and echocardiographic measurements of 705 patients(71.1%male;mean age:52.10±9.64 years)with low CHA2DS2-VASc score(0 or 1;1 point for female sex)out of 1346 consecutive patients with non-valvular AF who underwent transesophageal echocardiography(TEE)at Guangdong Cardiovascular Institute between January 2013 and December *** Patients with left atrial thrombus(LAT)or spontaneous echo contrast(SEC)on TEE(24/705,4%)showed a higher incidence rate of vascular disease(54.2%vs.32.9%,P=0.045)and non-paroxysmal AF(79.2%vs.29.4%,P<0.001),larger left atrial diameter(43.08±4.59 vs.36.02±5.53 mm,P<0.001),and lower left ventricular ejection fraction(58.23±8.82%vs.64.15±7.14%,P<0.001)than those *** logistic regression analysis identified left atrial diameter[odds ratio(OR)=1.171,95%confidence interval(CI):1.084–1.265,P<0.001]and non-paroxysmal AF(OR=3.766,95%CI:1.282–11.061,P=0.016)as independent risk factors for LAT/*** ROC curve analysis,a left atrial dimeter cutoff of 37.5 mm yielded 95.0%sensitivity and 62.7%specificity(AUC:0.847,P<0.0001,95%CI:0.793–0.914).Conclusion In patients with non-valvular AF with low CHA2DS2-VASc score,the presence of LAT or SEC was associated with left atrial enlargement,which had moderate predictive value,and non-paroxysmal AF.

Trichoderma spp. have been known for their strong abilities to produce extracellular enzymes, especially cellulases and glucanases by T. reesei, and also for their abilities to control plant pathogens. Most notably, a number of lines of evidence indicate that the agriculturally relevant strains are synergistic plant symbionts. As plant symbionts they possess the following characteristics: (a) they infect plant roots but cause the plant to restrict their growth to outer layers of the plant cortex (an exception is the recent discoveries of plant endophytic strains of Trichoderma and Gliocladium ), (b) they produce bioactive plant molecules in the zone of interaction that (c) induce localized systemic resistance to plant diseases and (d) systemic plant resistance to diseases that in some respects is similar to that induced by rhizobacteria, (e) they induce changes in plant proteomes, (f) increase plant growth and yield at least in part by enhancing root growth, and (g) they increase plant nutrient uptake. The increase in plant growth and yields is strongly interactive with plant genotype, at least in maize. There also are very significant increases in the knowledge of events that occur in mycoparasitism that in many respects have features in common with their interactions with plants. They are highly resistant to toxicants and have recently been shown to degrade cyanide and take up, and then degrade, metallocyanides. These discoveries allow new uses for the organisms in managed plant systems, including agriculture. For example, the induced systemic resistance system allows control of fungi, bacteria, Oomycetes and even one virus at sites temporally and spatially distant from the site of application. The abilities of the fungi to resist/degrade toxicants and increase plant growth indicate they will highly useful components in plant-microbe or microbe-only strategies for remediation of soil and water pollution.
