Background:Invasive micropapillary carcinoma(IMPC)is an uncommon subtype of breast *** studies of this subtype demonstrated a higher propensity for lymph node metastases as compared with invasive ductal carci-noma(IDC).The purpose of the present study was to determine the clinical characteristics,outcomes,and propensity for lymph node metastasis of patients with IMPC of the breast recorded in the National Cancer Database(NCDB).Methods:Records of patients with IMPC diagnosed between 2004 and 2014 were retrieved from the ***-rank test was performed to evaluate associations of clinical characteristics with overall survival(OS).Cox proportional hazards model was used to determine variables associated with ***:Overall,2660 patients with IMPC met the selection criteria;the 5-year OS rate was 87.5%and 24.9%of patients had nodal involvement at *** with≥4 positive lymph nodes had shorter OS than node-negative patients,whereas patients with 1-3 positive nodes had similar OS to node-negative ***ears,receipt of radiotherapy,and estrogen receptor positivity were also associated with prolonged *** benefit of radiotherapy was limited to IMPC patients undergoing lumpectomy;there was no benefit for the patients undergoing mastectomy(regardless of nodal positivity/negativity).Conclusions:Favorable prognostic factors of IMPC patients included ageears,e lymph nodes,receipt of radiotherapy,and estrogen receptor *** results presented herein suggest a survival benefit asso-ciated with radiotherapy in IMPC treatment,though this may be limited to the patients treated with lumpectomy.

Stratification of outcomes for mucinous appendiceal adenocarcinoma with peritoneal metastasis by histological grade

AIM To investigate the importance of a three-tiered histologic grade on outcomes for patients with mucinous appendiceal adenocarcinoma(MAA).MeTHODS Two hundred and sixty-five patients with MAA undergoing cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy were identified from a prospective database from 2004 through 2014. All pathology was reviewed by our gastrointestinal subspecialty pathologists and histological grade was classified as well-differentiated, moderately differentiated, and poorly differentiated. Survival analysis was performed using Cox proportional hazards *** There were 201(75.8%) well-, 45(16.9%) moderatelyand 19(7.2%) poorly-differentiated tumors. Histological grade significantly stratified the 5-year overall survival(OS), 94%, 71% and 30% respectively(P ell as the 5-year disease-free survival(DFS) 66%, 21% and 0%, respectively(P ependent predictors of DFS included tumor grade(HR = 1.78, 95%CI: 1.21-2.63, P = 0.008), lymph node involvement(HR = 0.33, 95%CI: 0.11-0.98, P evious surgical score(HR = 1.31, 95%CI: 1.1-1.65, P = 0.03) and peritoneal carcinomatosis index(PCI)(HR = 1.05, 95%CI: 1.02-1.08, P = 0.002). Independent predictors of OS include tumor grade(HR = 2.79, 95%CI: 1.26-6.21, P = 0.01), PCI(HR = 1.10, 95%CI: 1.03-1.16, P = 0.002), and complete cytoreduction(HR = 0.32, 95%CI: 0.11-0.92, P = 0.03). Tumor grade and PCI were the only independent predictors of both DFS and OS. Furthermore, histological grade and lymphovascular invasion stratified the risk of lymph node metastasis into a low(6%) and high(40%) risk groups. CONCLUSION Our data demonstrates that moderately differentiated MAA have a clinical behavior and outcome that is distinct from well-and poorly-differentiated MAA. The threetier grade classification provides improved prognostic stratification and should be incorporated into patient selection and treatment algorithms.

基于计算试验设计和代理模型的近似优化策略在现代复杂系统工程设计中得到了广泛应用,其中追峰采样方法(Modepursuing sampling, MPS)是一种代表性的近似优化策略。分析并针对MPS处理高维优化问题时效率低下的缺陷,提出了基于重点设计空间的快速追峰采样方法(RMPS-SDS),将重点设计空间的思想引入MPS框架,定制了一套样本点分配策略以增强MPS的局部搜索能力与收敛速度,从而提高求解高维优化问题的效率。采用一系列标准数值测试问题和工程设计问题检验RMPS-SDS方法的性能,并与MPS和GA进行了对比研究。研究结果表明,在相同模型调用次数前提下,RMPS-SDS的优化结果更接近理论全局最优解,且鲁棒性更好。与标准MPS相比,RMPS-SDS方法求解高维优化问题的效率、收敛性和鲁棒性都具有明显优势,更具有工程实用性。

Utilizing Solar Thermal energy for Post-Combustion C02 Capture

Post-combustion amine absorption and stripping can remove 90% of the CO2 from power plant flue gas, but systems can reduce electrical output by approximately 30% due to energy requirements for stripping CO2 from solvent and CO2 compression. The CO2 capture energy penalty can be reduced while developing renewable energy technologies by meeting CO2 capture energy requirements with a solar thermal energy system, particularly when electricity demand and prices are the highest. This study presents an initial review of solar thermal technologies for supplying CO2 capture energy, with a focus on high temperature systems. Parabolic troughs and central receivers are technically able to provide energy for CO2 capture. However, the solar system＇s capital costs would be roughly half that of the base coal-fired plant with CO2 capture, and high electricity prices are required to offset the costs of operating the solar thermal system. For high temperature solar thermal systems, direct electricity generation is likely a more efficient way to use solar energy to replace output lost to CO2 capture energy. However, low temperature solar thermal systems might integrate better with solvent stripping equipment, and more rigorous analysis is required to definitively assess the feasibility of using solar energy for CO2 capture.

Detecting Concentration of Analytes with DeTeCHIP: A Molecular Sensing Array

DeTeCHIP is a detection system made of various sensors that has been shown to detect and discriminate between small molecules of interest, including various illicit and over-the-counter drugs. Previously, detection was normalized to a single concentration of analyte. Now this detection assay can detect concentration differences in analytes via red, green, and blue color value changes and shifts in the UV-Vis spectra of the assay. To determine the concentrations differences, the exposed assays were scanned on a flatbed scanner and the images were analyzed for individual RGB values with a custom macro in ImageJ, an image analysis program. Increasing concentrations of the analyte resulted in greater differences in color values between control and analyte wells. These differences showed a linear relationship to concentration change, some with correlation coefficients greater than 98%. This work expands the capability of DeTeCHIP to give information about the concentration of analyte when the analyte identity is known.

Assessment of Biological Properties of Mouse embryonic Stem Cells Characteristics Prior To Differentiation

Mouse embryonic stem (eS) cells are continuous cell lines derived directly from the fetal founder tissue of the pre-im- plantation embryo and can be expanded in vitro and give rise to cells from ectodermal, mesodermal and endodermal layers. Mouse eS cells can be maintained and their numbers expanded by culture on feeder layer cells with LIF present in the culture medium. This study shows that changes in seeding density can significantly influence cell number expansion rates. Culturing eS cells in the absence of feeder layer cells and LIF stimulates eB formation when cultured in non-adherent culture plates. Formation of eBs particularly numbers, size of eBs formed, rates of cell proliferation within eBs and viability of cells can also be controlled based on seeding density. All these factors are important for optimizing approaches to co-ordinate differentiation towards a specific cell type. A key goal of eS cell research is to develop specific functional cell types which can be potentially used to study mechanisms of tissue development and as a therapy to repair or replace damaged or diseased tissues.

Rice transformation with cell wall degrading enzyme genes from Trichoderma atroviride and its effect on plant growth and resistance to fungal pathogens

Three genes encoding for fungal cell wall degrading enzymes (CWDe), ech42, nag70 and gluc78 from the biocontrol fungus Trichoderma atroviride were inserted into the binary vector pCAMBIA1305.2 singly and in all possible combinations. The coding sequences were placed downstream of the rice actin promoter and all vectors were used to transform rice plants. A total of more than 1,800 independently regenerated plantlets in seven different populations (for each of the three genes and each of the four gene combinations) were obtained. expression in plant was obtained for all the fungal genes used singly or in combinations. The ech42 gene encoding for an endochitinase increased resistance to sheath blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani, while the exochitinase-encoding gene, nag70, had a lesser effect. The expression level of endochitinase but not of the exochitinase was correlated with disease resistance. Nevertheless, exochitinase enhanced the positive effect of endochitinase on disease resistance when two genes were co-expressed in transgenic rice. Improved resistance to Magnaporthe grisea was found in all types of regenerated plants, including those with the gluc78 gene alone, while a few lines expressing either ech42 or nag70 appeared to be immune to this pathogen. Transgenic plants expressing the gluc78 gene alone were stunted and only few of them survived, even though they showed resistance to M. grisea. However, combination with either one of the two other genes (ech42, nag70) as included in the same T-DNA region, reduced the negative effect of gluc78 on plant growth. This is the first report of single or multiple of expression of transgens encoding CWDes that results in resistance to blast and sheath blight in rice.
