Crystal structure of Arabidopsis thaliana HPPK/DHPS,a bifunctional enzyme and target of the herbicide asulam

Herbicides are vital formodern agriculture,but their utility is threatened by genetic or metabolic resistance in weeds,as well as regulatory *** the known herbicide modes of action,7,8-dihydropterin synthase(DHPS),which is involved in folate biosynthesis,is targeted by just one commercial herbicide,asulam.A mimic of the substrate para-aminobenzoic acid,asulam is chemically similar to sulfonamide antibiotics,and although it is still in widespread use,asulam has faced regulatory *** an entire mode of action represented by just one commercial agrochemical,we sought to improve the understanding of its plant *** we solve a 2.3A°resolution crystal structure for Arabidopsis thaliana DHPS that is conjoined to 6-hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin pyrophosphokinase(HPPK),and we reveal a strong structural conservation with bacterial counterparts at the sulfonamide-bindingpocket of *** demonstrate that asulamand the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole have herbicidal as well as antibacterial activity,andwe explore the structural basis of their potency by modeling these compounds in mitochondrial HPPK/*** findings suggest limited opportunity for the rational design of plant selectivity fromasulamand indicate that pharmacokinetic or delivery differences between plants andmicrobesmight be the bestways to safeguard thismode of action.

The dynamic compensation temperature in a kinetic spin-5/2 Ising model on a hexagonal lattice

We present a study of the dynamic behavior of a two-sublattice spin-5/2 Ising model with bilinear and crystal-field interactions in the presence of a time-dependent oscillating external magnetic field on alternating layers of a hexagonal lattice by using the Glauber-type stochastic *** lattice is formed by alternate layers of spins σ=5/2 and S=5/*** employ the Glauber transition rates to construct the mean-field dynamic ***,we investigate the time variations of the average sublattice magnetizations to find the phases in the system and then the thermal behavior of the dynamic sublattice magnetizations to characterize the nature（first-or second-order） of the phase transitions and to obtain the dynamic phase transition（DPT） *** also study the thermal behavior of the dynamic total magnetization to find the dynamic compensation temperature and to determine the type of the dynamic compensation *** present the dynamic phase diagrams,including the dynamic compensation temperatures,in nine different *** phase diagrams contain seven different fundamental phases,thirteen different mixed phases,in which the binary and ternary combination of fundamental phases and the compensation temperature or the l-type behavior strongly depend on the interaction parameters.

Molecular mobility in thermotropic polyesters and side-chain polymers with different struc-ture of mesogens and spacers has been studied by dielectrical method in dilutesolutions. The results made it possible to establish the multiplicity of dielectric relaxationtransitions which reflects the small- and large-scale types of molecular motion. It was shownthat dielectric relaxation processes occurring in accordance with local mechanism (relaxationtimes 10^(-9)--10^(-7)s. and the activation energy 10--50kJ/mol) are due to the mobility of kineticchain elements of different length within a monomer units. It was found that the dielectricrelaxation process connected with a large-scale form of molecular motion (relaxation times10^(-5)--10^(-6)s. and the activation energy 100kJ/mol) did not depend on the molecular massbut was infiuenced by factors changing the conformational state of the macromolecule. It isestablished tha the cooperative reorientation mobility of associated mesogenic fragments isthe source of the large-scale process.

Influence of Water Quality, Formulation, Adjuvant, Rainfastness, and Nozzle Type on Efficacy of Fomesafen on Palmer Amaranth (<i>Amaranthus palmeri</i>) Control

Protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitors are one of the few remaining postemergence herbicide options for controlling Palmer amaranth in soybean growing areas of Mississippi, USA. Most Palmer amaranth populations in Mississippi are resistant to both glyphosate and acetolactate synthase inhibitors. Resistance to PPO inhibiting herbicides in Palmer amaranth has very recently been reported in Arkansas, Tennessee, and isolated pockets of Mississippi. A significant proportion of reports of PPO inhibitor failures in Mississippi are not considered to be resistance-related at this time. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate factors affecting the efficacy of fomesafen on Palmer amaranth including: quality of spray carrier (water), formulations, adjuvant, rainfastness, and nozzle type. All water samples and formulation combinations provided >95% control of Palmer amaranth 3 WAT. Some combinations of water samples and formulations did not result in complete control of the treated plants, with one or two individuals surviving 3 WAT. Formulation 1 provided 99% control compared to 95% from formulation 2. Irrespective of combinations of herbicide, adjuvant and height, control of Palmer amaranth was ≥91%. Formulation 1 provided 94% control compared to 88% from formulation 2. The adjuvant x height interaction was significant, owing to a 10% reduction in control of larger plants (86%) compared to smaller plants (96%) in presence of COC. COC provided better control (93%) than NIS (88%). Simulated rainfall applied ≥60 min after herbicide application did not adversely affect efficacy on Palmer amaranth when formulation 1 was applied in combination with NIS, with control ranging from 94% to 100%. Formulation 1 with COC provided ≥93% control at all rainfall application times, except 30 min after herbicide treatment, which resulted in 79% control. The causal states of computational mechanics define the minimal sufficient memory for a given discrete stationary stochastic process. Their entropy is an important complexity measure called statistical complexity （or true measure complexity）. They induce the s-machine, which is a hidden Markov model （HMM） generating the process. But it is not the minimal one, although generative HMMs also have a natural predictive interpretation. This paper gives a mathematical proof of the idea that the s-machine is the minimal HMM with an additional （partial） determinism condition. Minimal internal state entropy of a generative HMM is in analogy to statistical complexity called generative complexity. This paper also shows that generative complexity depends on the process in a nice way. It is, as a function of the process, lower semi-continuous （w.r.t. weak-, topology）, concave, and behaves nice under ergodic decomposition of the process.

Noise and vibration measurements in a Viking military vehicle

Noise and whole-body vibration measurements were made in a Viking military vehicle to determine the variation that should be expected during repeat measures,the effect of speed(up to 60 km/h in 5 km/h increments),and during travel over different types of terrain(comprising concrete road,gravel track and rough cross-country).Measurements were made at various crew positions(including the driver and commander)in both the front and the rear cabs in the *** translational axes of vibration were measured in each *** speeds were investigated over road(35 km/h and 55e60 km/h)and gravel(20 km/h and 35 km/h)*** effect of varying speed of the vehicle on the measured noise and vibration magnitudes was also *** highest sound pressure level(lAeq)of 104 dB(A)was measured at the commander’s standing position during travel over concrete road at 55 km/*** noise levels occurred for a standing commander compared with when sitting on the seat.A maximum single axis frequency-weighted vibration magnitude of 1.0 m/s^(2) *** measured on the driver’s seat during travel over track at 35 km/*** vibration magnitudes occurred during travel over track compared with travel over *** noise and vibration exposure of crew within the Viking vehicle increased with increasing speed of the vehicle.

THE VISCOElASTIC EFFECT ON THE FORMATION OF MESO-GlOBUlAR PHASE OF DIlUTE HETEROPOlYMER SOlUTIONS

linear homopolymer chains in poor solvent exist either as individual crumpled single chain globules or asmacroscopic precipitate, depending on whether the solution is in the one- or the two-phase region. However, linearheteropolymer chains in dilute solution might be able to form stable mesoglobules made up of a limited number of chains ifthe degree of amphiphilicity of the chain is sufficiently high and the experimental conditions are appropriate. The self-assembly of block copolymers in a selective solvent is typical of such examples. In practice, the formation of stablemesoglobules can be directly related to the formation of novel polymeric nanopaticles in solution. In this article, we willaddress the formaton of mesoglobular phase not only on the basis of thermodynamics, but also from a kinetic point of view,which leads to the discussion of how viscoelasticity can affect the phase behavior of heteropolymer chains in dilute *** formation and stabilization of several different kinds of novel polymeric nanopedicles will be used to illustrate ourdiscussion.
