Breast cancer is the num.er one cause of can- cer deaths am.ng Hispanic wom.n in the United States, and in m.xico, it recently becam. the prim.ry cause of cancer deaths. This m.lign- nancy represents a poorly understood and un- derstudied disease in Hispanic wom.n. The ELLA Binational Breast Cancer Study was es- tablished in 2006 as a m.lti-center study to as- sess patterns of breast tum.r m.rkers, clinical characteristics, and their risk factors in wom.n of m.xican descent. We describe the design and im.lem.ntation of the ELLA Study and provide a risk factor com.arison between wom.n in the U.S. and those in m.xico based on a sam.le of 765 patients (364 in the U.S. and 401 in m.xico). Com.ared to wom.n in m.xico, U.S. wom.n had significantly (p m.an live births) and breastfeeding rates (57.5% vs. 80.5%), higher use of oral contraceptives (60.7% vs. 50.1%) and horm.ne replacem.nt therapy (23.3% vs. 7.6%), and higher fam.ly history of breast cancer (15.7% vs. 9.0%). Re- sults show that differences in breast cancer risk factor patterns exist between m.xico and U.S. wom.n. We provide lessons learned from.the conduct of our study. Binational studies are an im.ortant step in understanding disease pat- terns and etiology for wom.n in both countries.

Alonso-Zarza et al.(2009)argued that the m.ocene sedim.ntary sequence near Qinan(QA-I)(Guo et al., 2002),north to Tianshui in Central China, represents m.dflat/distal fan and shallow lake *** we show that they(1)did not take into account extensive observational evidence supporting an eolian origin;(2)erroneously correlated deposits of different origins and sm.ll lateral extent occurring in different geom.rphic units;(3)inferred a com.on origin for distal fans in the Tianshui and Qinan regions despite contrasting tectonic and geom.rphic conditions;and(4)in som. cases m.sinterpreted features typical of eolian ***,their study is not a sufficient basis for challenging earlier interpretations of Asian paleoclim.tes.
