A novel relationship between elastic modulus and void ratio associated with principal stress for coral calcareous sand

Elastic moduli,*** modulus G and bulk modulus K,are important parameters of geotechnical materials,which are not only the indices for the evaluation of the deformation ability of soils but also the important basic parameters for the development of the constitutive models of geotechnical *** this study,a series of triaxial loading-unloading-reloading shear tests and isotropic loading-unloadingreloading tests are conducted to study several typical mechanical properties of coral calcareous sand(CCS),and the void ratio evolution during loading,unloading and *** test results show that the stress-strain curves during multiple unloading processes are almost parallel,and their slopes are much greater than the deformation modulus at the initial stage of *** relationship between the confining pressure and the volumetric strain can be defined approximately by a hyperbolic equation under the condition of monotonic loading of confining *** the condition of confining pressure unloading,the evolution of void ratio is linear in the e-lnp0 plane,and these lines are a series of almost parallel lines if there are multiple processes of *** on the experimental results,it is found that the modified Hardin formulae for the elastic modulus estimation have a significant deviation from the tested values for *** on the experimental results,it is proposed that the elastic modulus of soils should be determined by the intersection line of two spatial surfaces in the G/K-e-p’/pa space(pa:atmosphere pressure).“Ye formulation”is further proposed for the estimation of the elastic modulus of *** new estimation formulation for soil elastic modulus would provide a new method to accurately describe the mechanical behavior of granular soils.

Optimization study of spherical tuyere based on BP neural network and new evaluation index

The energy consumption of heating,ventilation,and air conditioning(HVAC)systems holds a significant position in building energy usage,accounting for about 65%of the total energy ***,with the advancement of building automation,the energy consumption of ventilation systems continues to *** study focuses on improving the performance of spherical tuyeres in HVAC *** primarily utilizes neural networks and multi-island genetic algorithms(MIGA)for multi-parameter *** employing methods such as structural parameterization,accurate and fast computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations,a minimized sample space,and a rational optimization strategy,the time cycle of the optimization process is ***,a new comprehensive evaluation index is proposed in this research to describe the performance of spherical tuyeres,which can be used to more accurately assess spherical tuyeres with different *** results show that by establishing a neural network prediction model and combining it with the multi-island genetic algorithm,a novel spherical tuyere design was successfully *** optimized novel spherical tuyeres achieved a 2..05%reduction in the spherical tuyeres effective index(STEI)compared to the traditional spherical ***,the resistance decreased by 15.68%,and the jet length increased by 7.57%.The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed optimization method exhibits high accuracy,good generalization capability,and excellent agreement at different Reynolds numbers.

Energy flexibility and resilience analysis of demand-side energy efficiency measures within existing residential houses during cold wave event

Using the behind-meter data,this study applied a comparison and optimization-based framework to evaluate the energy flexibility and resilience of distributed energy resources within existing houses during cold wave *** analysis demonstrates the effectiveness of high envelope insulation level in improving energy resilience,identifies impacts of distributed energy resources on variations of household electricity ***,a 14.6%reduction in the median value of the normalized load of building group with low U-values,implementations of cogeneration system effectively suppressed variations of electricity *** energy performances of on-site generators are evaluated based on high resolution data,energy flexibility of domestic hot water and thermostatically controlled loads were investigated through built demand response *** reveal that electrifying hot water demand offers additional power flexibility,the integration of fuel cell cogeneration system has proven to be an efficient energy resource,enabling on-site generation of both electricity and hot water,substantially reducing grid *** extreme cold event resulted in significant spikes in space heating power *** optimization results demonstrate that reducing the indoor setpoint temperature effectively decreases daily power consumption by approximately 5.0%per degree *** findings help acquire better understanding of interconnections between energy efficiency and resilience of residential energy-efficient measures.

In this study,90 surface water samples were collected from Shandong Province(SDP)in the dry and wet seasons and analyzed using statistical analysis,hydrochemical methods and water quality index(WQI).The content of main ions showed seasonal variations,with a higher average value in the dry season than in the wet *** points exhibiting high contents of the main chemical components were mainly distributed in areas southwest of SDP,north of Weifang,and around *** saturation index of carbonate minerals was greater than zero,while that of evaporite minerals was less than *** hydrochemical characteristics of surface water are mainly dominated by rock weathering as well as cation *** addition,surface water in SDP has significantly been affected by anthropogenic *** of the surface water could be classified as weakly alkaline soft-fresh water,with the hydrochemical types of SO_(4)·Cl-Ca·Mg and SO_(4)·*** terms of WQI,47.88% and 37.88% of the water samples in SDP were classified as poor water in the dry and wet seasons,*** the whole,the water quality is higher in the wet season than in the dry season,and surface water in SDP is generally suitable for agricultural irrigation.

Semantic-aware entity alignment for low resource language knowledge graph

Entity alignment(EA)is an important technique aiming to find the same real entity between two different source knowledge graphs(KGs).Current methods typically learn the embedding of entities for EA from the structure of KGs for *** EA models are designed for rich-resource languages,requiring sufficient resources such as a parallel corpus and pre-trained language ***,low-resource language KGs have received less attention,and current models demonstrate poor performance on those low-resource ***,researchers have fused relation information and attributes for entity representations to enhance the entity alignment performance,but the relation semantics are often *** address these issues,we propose a novel Semantic-aware Graph Neural Network(SGNN)for entity ***,we generate pseudo sentences according to the relation triples and produce representations using pre-trained ***,our approach explores semantic information from the connected relations by a graph neural *** model captures expanded feature information from *** results using three low-resource languages demonstrate that our proposed SGNN approach out performs better than state-of-the-art alignment methods on three proposed datasets and three public datasets.

Unveiling the size effect of nitrogen-doped carbon-supported copper-based catalysts on nitrate-to-ammonia electroreduction

The electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction(NitRR)represents a promising approach toward achieving economically and environmentally sustainable ***,it remains a challenge to regulate the size effect of electrocatalysts to optimize the catalytic activity and ammonia ***,the Cu-based catalysts were tailored at the atomic level to exhibit a size gradient ranging from single-atom catalysts(SACs,0.15–0.35 nm)to single-cluster catalysts(SCCs,1.0–2.8 nm)and nanoparticles(NPs,2.–30 nm),with the aim of studying the size effect for the NO_(3)^(-)-to-NH_(3) reduction ***,the Cu SCCs exhibit enhanced metal–substrate and metal–metal interactions by taking advantageous features of Cu SACs and Cu ***,Cu SCCs achieve exceptional electrocatalytic performance for the NitRR with a maximum Faradaic efficiency of ca.96%NH_(3)and the largest yield rate of ca.1.99 mg·h^(-1)·cm^(-2. at-0.5 V *** hydrogen electrode(RHE).The theoretical calculation further reveals the size effect and coordination environment on the high catalytic activity and selectivity for the *** work provides a promising various size-controlled design strategy for aerogel-based catalysts effectively applied in various electrocatalytic reactions.

The micaceous weathered granitic soil(WGS)is frequently encountered in civil engineering worldwide,unfortunately little information is available regarding how mica affects the physico-mechanical behaviors of *** study prepares reconstituted WGS with different mica contents by removing natural mica in theWGS,and then mixes it with commercial mica *** geotechnical behavior as well as the microstructures of the mixtures are *** addition of mica enables the physical indices of WGS to be specific combinations of coarser gradation and high permeability but high Atterberg ***,high mica content in WGS was found to be associated with undesirable mechanical properties,including increased compressibility,disintegration,and swelling potential,as well as poor compactability and low effective frictional *** analysis indicates that the influence of mica on the responses of mixtures originates from the intrinsic nature of mica as well as the particle packing being formed *** exists in the mixture as stacks of plates that form a spongy structure with high compressibility and swelling *** among the plates give the soil high water retention and high Atterberg *** pores are also generated by soil particles with bridging packing,which enhances the permeability and water-soil interactions upon *** study provides a microlevel understanding of how mica dominates the behavior of WGS and provides new insights into the effective stabilization and improvement of micaceous soils.

Assessing clogging potential and optimizing driving parameter of slurry shield tunneling in clay stratum assisted with CFD-DEM modeling

This paper proposed a two-way coupled computational fluid dynamics(CFD)and discrete element method(DEM)approach to analyze the evolution of clogging in slurry shield tunneling *** interactions between clay particles and slurry were considered by exchanging three interaction forces,including buoyancy force,pressure gradient force,and drag *** CFD-DEM coupling approach was first benchmarked by comparing cutterhead torque and total thrust with field monitored data of a practical slurry shield tunnel *** evolution process of the particle phase and the fluid phase over time was *** results indicated that fewer than 70%of the particles can be washed away in time by the circulating *** 9%of the particles adhered to the submerged wall,resulting in increased cutterhead torque and *** parametric analysis,the influence of the shield driving parameters on the clay clogging behavior is further *** time history of cutterhead torque or thrust can be used as a criterion for judging whether clogging has ***,a new assessment method of clogging risk and an optimization strategy of driving parameters were proposed,which were intended to provide some guidance for similar projects.

Structural insights into the Oryza sativa cation transporters HKTs in salt tolerance
