Growth and inhibition of zinc anode dendrites in Zn-air batteries:Model and experiment

Zinc(Zn)-air batteries are widely used in secondary battery research owing to their high theoretical energy density,good electrochemical reversibility,stable discharge performance,and low cost of the anode active material Zn.However,the Zn anode also leads to many challenges,including dendrite growth,deformation,and hydrogen precipitation self-corrosion.In this context,Zn dendrite growth has a greater impact on the cycle lives.In this dissertation,a dendrite growth model for a Zn-air battery was established based on electrochemical phase field theory,and the effects of the charging time,anisotropy strength,and electrolyte temperature on the morphology and growth height of Zn dendrites were studied.A series of experiments was designed with different gradient influencing factors in subsequent experiments to verify the theoretical simulations,including elevated electrolyte temperatures,flowing electrolytes,and pulsed charging.The simulation results show that the growth of Zn dendrites is controlled mainly by diffusion and mass transfer processes,whereas the electrolyte temperature,flow rate,and interfacial energy anisotropy intensity are the main factors.The experimental results show that an optimal electrolyte temperature of 343.15 K,an optimal electrolyte flow rate of 40 ml·min^(-1),and an effective pulse charging mode.

Carbon nanofibers(CNFs)with high specific surface area show great potential for sodium storage as a hard carbon material.Herein,CNFs anchored with Ni nanoparticles(CNFs/Ni)were prepared through chemical vapor deposition and impregnation reduction methods,in situ growing on the three-dimensional porous copper current collector(3DP-Cu).The coupling effect of high-spin state Ni nanopar-ticles leads to the increase of defect density and the expansion of lattice spacing of CNFs.Meanwhile,the 3DP-Cu ensures a high loading capacity of CNFs and short ion/electron transport channels.As an integral binder-free anode,the 3DP-Cu/CNFs/Ni exhibits excellent electrochemical performance,which demon-strates a high specific capacity with 298.5 mAh g^(-1)at 1000 mA g^(-1)after 1500 cycles,and a high power density with 200 mAh g^(-1)over 1000 cycles at 5000 mA g^(-1).Density functional theory calculation re-sults show that the high-spin state Ni regulates the electronic structure of CNFs,which significantly reduces the adsorption energy for Na^(+)(-2.7 Ev)and thus enables high-rate capability.The regulation of the electronic structure of carbon materials by high-spin state metal provides a new strategy for developing high-power carbonaceous anode materials for sodium-ion batteries.

Nowadays,the advancement of nonintrusive load monitoring(NILM)has been hastened by the ever-increasing requirements for the reasonable use of electricity by users and demand side management.Although existing researches have tried their best to extract a wide variety of load features based on transient or steady state of electrical appliances,it is still very difficult for their algorithm to model the load decomposition problem of different electrical appliance types in a targeted manner to jointly mine their proposed features.This paper presents a very effective event-driven NILM solution,which aims to separately model different appliance types to mine the unique characteristics of appliances from multi-dimensional features,so that all electrical appliances can achieve the best classification performance.First,we convert the multi-classification problem into a serial multiple binary classification problem through a pre-sort model to simplify the original problem.Then,ConTrastive Loss K-Nearest Neighbour(CTLKNN)model with trainable weights is proposed to targeted mine appliance load characteristics.The simulation results show the effectiveness and stability of the proposed algorithm.Compared with existing algorithms,the proposed algorithm has improved the identification performance of all electrical appliance types.

Shale hydration and swelling is the main obstacle to the development of shale gas utilizing water-based drilling fluids(WBDFs).In this work,the inhibition mechanism of alkylammonium inhibitor and alkylamine inhibitor adsorbed on sodium bentonite(Na+Bent)are investigated using infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),zeta potential,particle size distribution tests,and thermogravimetry analysis(TGA).The results suggest that HTB and HMD can be inserted into the interlamination of Na+Bent and minimize the basal spacing compared to hydrated Na+Bent.HTB and HMD are inserted between the Na+Bent layers in a single-layer tiled manner and replace the sodium ions that are firmly fixed between the layers.Eventually,water molecules are removed from the interlayer Na+Bent.The interaction between the quaternary ammonium group and Na+Bent is more significant than between the primary amine group and Na+Bent.The inhibition performance suggests that HTB inhibits Na+Bent hydration and swelling more substantially than other inhibitors,indicating that the inhibition performance of the two quaternary ammonium groups is greater than that of the two primary amine groups.Therefore,HTB can be used as intercalation inhibition in WBDFs and has tremendous application value.

Effects of a polyamine inhibitor on the microstructure and macromechanical properties of hydrated shale

China is rich in shale gas resources,however,wellbores in shale gas reservoirs are frequently unstable.This has a serious impact on the shale gas drilling cycle.Polyamine,a common additive in water-based shale drilling fluids,can effectively inhibit shale hydration.However,there is a lack of quantitative research on the effect of polyamine inhibitors on the microstructure and macromechanical properties of shale.Therefore,this study investigated those issues via a systematic hydration experiment carried out on shale from the Longmaxi Formation.The results show that microfractures are created and expand during shale hydration,that they also connect to form a complex microfracture network,and that 3%polyamine inhibitors(polyamine solution with volume fraction of 3%)can effectively inhibit their evolution.The ultrasonic velocities and UCS of the Longmaxi shale are significantly anisotropic;the former first increases and then decreases with the laminae angle,reaching its maximum when the laminae angle is 30°.The UCS of the shale is highest and lowest,respectively,when the laminae angles are 0°or 90°and 30°.In general,these UCS appear as a"U"pattern,high on two sides with a dip in the center.Polyamines can effectively inhibit both the expansion of shale and the reduction of P-wave and S-wave velocities,the UCS,and elastic modulus.The UCS of a shale sample was reduced by 28%e40%after immersion for 96 h in water,compared to 2%e20%after immersion in a 3%polyamine inhibitor for the same amount of time.The inhibiting effect of the polyamine was remarkable.

Accurate load forecasting is critical for electricity production,transmission,and maintenance.Deep learning(DL)model has replaced other classical models as the most popular prediction models.However,the deep prediction model requires users to provide a large amount of private electricity consumption data,which has potential privacy risks.Edge nodes can federally train a global model through aggregation using federated learning(FL).As a novel distributed machine learning(ML)technique,it only exchanges model parameters without sharing raw data.However,existing forecasting methods based on FL still face challenges from data heterogeneity and privacy disclosure.Accordingly,we propose a user-level load forecasting system based on personalized federated learning(PFL)to address these issues.The obtained personalized model outperforms the global model on local data.Further,we introduce a novel differential privacy(DP)algorithm in the proposed system to provide an additional privacy guarantee.Based on the principle of generative adversarial network(GAN),the algorithm achieves the balance between privacy and prediction accuracy throughout the game.We perform simulation experiments on the real-world dataset and the experimental results show that the proposed system can comply with the requirement for accuracy and privacy in real load forecasting scenarios.

BACKGROUND Primary pancreatic paraganglioma is exceedingly rare.Most patients with pancreatic paraganglioma lack a typical clinical presentation,and the tumor is difficult to accurately differentiate from other pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors,making the misdiagnosis rate extremely high.Surgical excision is the primary treatment modality but is considered high risk.Because of its rich vascularity,the tumor easily bleeds during surgery,especially malignant paragangliomas invading large blood vessels.Thus,a thorough preoperative evaluation of the tumor is necessary.Here,we report a primary malignant pancreatic paraganglioma,the second such case in a young patient that was successfully resected surgically.CASE SUMMARY A 26-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital with unexplained abdominal pain.Dual-layer spectral-detector computed tomography(DLCT)revealed a mixed density mass in the pancreatic body and tail.The patient was transferred to our hospital after previous failed surgical resection at other hospitals.The patient and her family strongly desired surgery.After a thorough preoperative evaluation and adequate preparation,a large mass with the greatest dimension of 8.0 cm was successfully resected.The final pathological diagnosis was malignant paraganglioma.The patient was discharged in good condition 2 wk postoperatively.CONCLUSION The rare malignant pancreatic paraganglioma reported here was difficult to diagnose preoperatively.Early filling of the draining vein may be a crucial diagnostic imaging feature.DLCT can provide more precise information for surgical resection through dual-energy imaging.

Impact of backwater on water surface profile in curved channels

Owing to extensive construction of dams, the impact of backwater on flow may lead to navigation or flood control issues in curved channels. To date, the impact of backwater on the water surface profile in curved channels remains unknown and requires investigation. In this study, experiments were conducted in a glass-walled recirculating flume with a length of 19.4 m, a width of 0.6 m, and a depth of 0.8 m, and the impact of backwater on the water surface profile in a 90° channel bend was investigated. The experimental results showed that the backwater degree had a significant impact on the transverse and longitudinal flow depth distributions in the bend. The transverse slope of the flow (Jr) increased linearly with an increase in the Froude number of the approach flow upstream of the bend. Jr increased with the longitudinal location parameter ξ when −0.2 < ξ < 0.5, and decreased with ξ when 0.5 < ξ < 1.2. Furthermore, the results showed that Jr asymptotically decreased to zero with an increase in the degree of backwater. An equation was formulated to estimate the transverse slope of the flow in a 90° bend in backwater zones.
