Fabrication of AA7005/Tib2-b4C surface composite by friction stir processing: Evaluation of ballistic behaviour

The present work aims to enhance the ballistic resistance of AA7005 alloy by incorporating the Tib2 and b4C ceramic reinforcement particles. Surface composites with different weight fractions of Tib2 and b4C particles were processed by friction stir processing. Micro-hardness and depth of penetration tests were carried out to evaluate the ballistic properties of the surface composites. The surface hardness of the composite was found to be nearly 70 HV higher than base alloy. The depth of penetration of the steel projectile was 20e26mm in the composites as compared to 37mm in the base alloy. ballistic mass efficiency factor of the surface composite was found to be 1.6 times higher than base alloy. This is mainly attributed to the dispersion strengthening from the reinforcement particles.

In recent years, Jatropha curcas l. has gained popularity as a potential biodiesel plant. The varying oil content, reported between accessions belonging to different agroclimatic zones, has necessitated the assessment of the existing genetic variability to generate reliable molecular markers for selection of high oil yielding variety. EST derived SSR markers are more useful than genomic markers as they represent the transcriptome, thus, directly linked to functional genes. The present report describes the in silico mining of the microsatellites (SSRs) using J. curcas ESTs from various tissues viz. embryo, root, leaf and seed available in the public domain of NCbI. A total of 13,513 ESTs were downloaded. From these ESTs, 7552 unigenes were obtained and 395 SSRs were generated from 377 SSR-ESTs. These EST-SSRs can be used as potential microsatellite markers for diversity analysis, MAS etc. Since the Jatropha genes carrying SSRs have been identified in this study, thus, EST-SSRs directly linked to genes will be useful for developing trait linked markers.

The Design of Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna by Using Quasi-Newton Algorithm of ANN

The paper presents the Quasi Newton model of Artificial Neural Network for design of circular microstrip antenna (MSA). In this model, a closed form expression is used for accurate determination of the resonant frequency of circular microstrip patch antenna. The calculated resonant frequency results are in good agreement with the experimental results reported elsewhere. The results show better agreement with the trained and tested data of ANN models. The results are verified by the experimental results to produce accurate ANN models. This presents ANN model practically as an alternative method to the detailed electromagnetic design of circular microstrip antenna.

Experimental determination of density, ultrasonic velocity and viscosity of two pyrimidine bases thymine and cytosine along with their respective nucleosides, thymidine and cytidine has been carried out in aqueous urea solutions in the presence of different concentrations of three salts, viz. NaC1, KCl and CaCl2. The experimental data have been used for the computation of various thermodynamic parameters, viz. apparent molar volume, apparent molar compressibility, coefficients A and b of the Jones-Dole equation, internal pressure, acoustic impedance, etc. Structural studies of solutions under investigation have also been carried out by ultraviolet spectroscopy, and an at- tempt has been made to collaborate the findings of ultraviolet spectroscopy with results obtained thermodynami- cally.

Seroprevalence of HCV and its co-infection with HbV and HIV among liver disease patients of South Tamil Nadu

AIM:To determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis C virus(HCV) and its co-infection with hepatitis b virus(HbV),hepatitis delta agent(HDV) and human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) among liver disease patients of south Tamil Nadu. METHODS:A total of 1012 samples comprising 512 clinically diagnosed cases of liver disease patients and 500 apparently healthy age and sex matched individuals were screened for Hepatitis C virus(anti HCV and HCV RNA) ,Hepatitis b virus(HbsAg),Hepatitis delta agent(anti HDV) and Human immuno virus(antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2) using commercially available enzyme linked immunosorbent assay *** RNA wasdetected by *** function tests like AlT,AST,GGT,AlP,bilirubin and albumin were also studied. RESUlTS:The seroprevalence of HCV was found to be 5.6%among liver disease patients by ElISA.27/512,49/512 and 12/512 patients were positive for HIV,HbV &HDV ***-infection of HCV&HbV was found in 8 patients,with 6 for HCV&HIV and 4 for HCV,HbV&HIV ***-wise analysis showed that HIV,HCV&HbV and HCV&HIV co-infection was high among females whereas for HbV it was high in males. The mean AlT and AST in HCV positive cases were 42.1±8.3 and 49±*** people co-infected with HCV&HbV or HCV&HIV or HCV,HbV&HIV the mean AlT of 58.0±03.16,56.78±4.401 and 64.37±4.01 respectively. CONClUSION:We strongly recommend routine test of the blood for HCV in addition to HbV and *** also recommend individualized counseling to identify those at risk and testing for those who want *** surveillance and periodic epidemiological studies will have to be undertaken to monitor and prevent these blood-borne viruses.

A subtree-based approach to failure detection and protection for multicast in SDN

Software-defined networking(SDN) has received tremendous attention from both industry and *** centralized control plane in SDN has a global view of the network and can be used to provide more effective solutions for complex problems,such as traffic *** study is motivated by recent advancement in SDN and increasing popularity of multicasting *** propose a technique to increase the resiliency of multicasting in SDN based on the subtree protection *** is a group communication technology,which uses the network infrastructure efficiently by sending the data only once from one or multiple sources to a group of receivers that share a common *** applications,e.g.,live video streaming and video conferencing,become popular,but they are delay-sensitive *** in an ongoing multicast session can cause packet losses and delay,which can significantly affect quality of service(Qo S).In this study,we adapt a subtree-based technique to protect a multicast tree constructed for Open Flow switches in *** proposed algorithm can detect link or node failures from a multicast tree and then determines which part of the multicast tree requires changes in the flow table to recover from the *** a centralized controller in SDN,the backup paths can be created much more effectively in comparison to the signaling approach used in traditional multiprotocol label switching(MPlS) networks for backup paths,which makes the subtree-based protection mechanism *** also implement a prototype of the algorithm in the POX controller and measure its performance by emulating failures in different tree topologies in Mininet.

Flow turbulence presented by different vegetation spacing sizes within a submerged vegetation patch

This study presents results from a vegetation-induced flow experimental study which investigates 3-D turbulence structure profiles,including Reynolds stress,turbulence intensity and bursting analysis of open channel *** vegetation densities have been built between the adjacent vegetations,and the flow measurements are taken using acoustic Doppler velocimeter(ADV)at the locations within and downstream of the vegetation *** different tests are conducted,where the first test has compact vegetations,while the second and the third tests have open spaces created by one and two empty vegetation slots within the vegetated *** reveals that over 10%of eddies size is generated within the vegetated zone of compact vegetations as compared with the fewer *** turbulence structures variation is also observed at the points in the non-vegetated *** findings from burst-cycle analysis show that the sweep and outward interaction events are dominant,where they further increase away from the *** effect of vegetation on the turbulent burst cycle is mostly obvious up to approximately two-third of vegetation height where this phenomenon is also observed for most other turbulent structure.

The basic concept of phytosociology is crucial for the assessment of species composition and dynamic ecological succession of forests supporting ecological services,functions,disturbance,and resilience that lead to the development of integrated areas such as ecological niche modeling and contribute to identifying the valuable bio-indicators which can be used in framing conservation and management *** is one of the most dominant tree species of treeline ecotone in the Himalayan *** species is also considered as indicator species for monitoring the past and recent climate change *** current study was carried out in the natural populations of *** from the sub-alpine zone of North-western Indian *** birch dominated forest harbors a total of 305 plant species comprising Angiosperms(51 families,160 genera and 277 species),Gymnosperms(03 families,05 genera and 07 species)and Pteridophytes(07 families,11 genera and 21 species)with Asteraceae,Ranunculaceae and Rosaceae as dominant *** forests are found dominant in shady moist habitat and North West *** characteristics,anthropogenic and developmental activities affect the population structure of *** and associated ***,the species has fair regeneration status in the study *** acidic nature of soil pH and spatial variation in edaphic characteristics may be due to geographical differences,rooting patterns and litter accumulation of below and above-ground *** estimation of a representative population of *** from each site showed that TAGbD,TCD and TbD were found maximum in ST3(Hamta Pass II site).The CCA analysis determined that environmental variables such as altitude,organic matter,available phosphorous,organic carbon,available nitrogen,and electrical conductivity played a significant role in determining tree species composition and distribution in *** dominated forests.
