Natural products derived from bacterial sources have long been pivotal in the discovery of drug leads.However,the cultivation of only about 1%of bacteria in laboratory settings has left a significant portion of biosynthetic diversity hidden within the genomes of uncultured bacteria.Advances in sequencing technologies now enable the exploration of genetic material from these metagenomes through culture-independent methods.This approach involves extracting genetic sequences from environmental DNA and applying a hybrid methodology that combines functional screening,sequence tag-based homology screening,and bioinformatic-assisted chemical synthesis.Through this process,numerous valuable natural products have been identified and synthesized from previously uncharted metagenomic territories.This paper provides an overview of the recent advancements in the utilization of culture-independent techniques for the discovery of novel biosynthetic gene clusters and bioactive small molecules within metagenomic libraries.

An angular blinking jamming method based on electronically controlled corner reflectors

Passive jamming is believed to have very good potential in countermeasure community.In this paper,a passive angular blinking jamming method based on electronically controlled corner reflectors is proposed.The amplitude of the incident wave can be modulated by switching the corner reflector between the penetration state and the reflection state,and the ensemble of multiple corner reflectors with towing rope can result in complex angle decoying effects.Dependency of the decoying effect on corner reflectors’radar cross section and positions are analyzed and simulated.Results show that the angle measured by a monopulse radar can be significantly interfered by this method while the automatic tracking is employed.

Moisture-enabled electricity(ME)is a method of converting the potential energy of water in the external environment into electrical energy through the interaction of functional materials with water molecules and can be directly applied to energy harvesting and signal expression.However,ME can be unreliable in numerous applications due to its sluggish response to moisture,thus sacrificing the value of fast energy harvesting and highly accurate information representation.Here,by constructing a moisture-electric-moisture-sensitive(ME-MS)heterostructure,we develop an efficient ME generator with ultra-fast electric response to moisture achieved by triggering Grotthuss protons hopping in the sensitized ZnO,which modulates the heterostructure built-in interfacial potential,enables quick response(0.435 s),an unprecedented ultra-fast response rate of 972.4 mV s^(−1),and a durable electrical signal output for 8 h without any attenuation.Our research provides an efficient way to generate electricity and important insight for a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of moisture-generated carrier migration in ME generator,which has a more comprehensive working scene and can serve as a typical model for human health monitoring and smart medical electronics design.

This paper aims to analyze the weak approximation error of a fully discrete scheme for a class of semi-linear parabolic stochastic partial differential equations(SPDEs)driven by additive fractional Brownian motions with the Hurst parameter H∈(1/2,1).The spatial approximation is performed by a spectral Galerkin method and the temporal discretization by an exponential Euler method.As far as we know,the weak error analysis for approximations of fractional noise driven SPDEs is absent in the literature.A key difficulty in the analysis is caused by the lack of the associated Kolmogorov equations.In the present work,a novel and efficient approach is presented to carry out the weak error analysis for the approximations,which does not rely on the associated Kolmogorov equations but relies on the Malliavin calculus.To the best of our knowledge,the rates of weak convergence,shown to be higher than the strong convergence rates,are revealed in the fractional noise driven SPDE setting for the first time.Numerical examples corroborate the claimed weak orders of convergence.

Timing of brain computed tomography for predicting neurological prognosis in comatose cardiac arrest survivors: a retrospective observational study

BACKGROUND:To assess the association between relevant brain computed tomography(CT)parameters at different time and neurological prognosis in adult comatose survivors after cardiac arrest(CA).METHODS:A total of 94 CA patients who underwent early and late CT scans(within 24 h and 24 h to 7 d respectively after CA)between January 2018 and April 2020 were enrolled in this retrospective study.According to the Cerebral Performance Category(CPC)score at hospital discharge,the patients were divided into either a good outcome(CPC 1-2)group or a poor-outcome group(CPC 3-5).The grey-to-white matter ratio(GWR)and the proportion of cerebrospinal fluid volume(pCSFV)were measured.In predicting poor outcomes,the prognostic performance of relevant CT parameters was evaluated,and the comparison analysis(expressed as the ratio of parameters in late CT to those in the early CT)of diff erent CT time was conducted.RESULTS:Totally 26 patients were in the good-outcome group,while 68 patients were in the poor-outcome group.The putamen density,GWR,and pCSFV in late CT were significantly lower in the poor-outcome group(Pganglia24 h after CA may be a good choice as a neuroimaging approach to evaluating prognosis.To predict neurological prognosis,comparison analysis of diff erent CT time can be used as another promising tool in comatose CA survivors.

Dear editor,According to the World Health Organization,ischemic heart disease and stroke were the top 2leading causes of death in 2019.[1]In the past few years,intravenous recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator(rt-PA)has been a significantly effective treatment to increase survival and reduce mortality in acute ischemic stroke.[2,3]However,as the number of patients who receive alteplase is increasing,a rare but potentially life-threatening adverse complication of alteplase administration is becoming more common-orolingual angioedema(OA).[4-6]

Spin-engineering with electrocatalysts have been exploited to suppress the“shuttle effect”in Li–S batteries.Spin selec-tion,spin-dependent electron mobility and spin potentials in activation barriers can be optimized as quantum spin exchange interactions lead-ing to a significant reduction of the electronic repulsions in the orbitals of catalysts.Herein,we anchor the MgPc molecules on fluorinated carbon nanotubes(MgPc@FCNT),which exhibits the single active Mg sites with axial displacement.According to the density functional theory calculations,the electronic spin polarization in MgPc@FCNT not only increases the adsorption energy toward LiPSs intermediates but also facilitates the tunneling process of electron in Li–S batter-ies.As a result,the MgPc@FCNT provides an initial capacity of 6.1 mAh cm^(-2) even when the high sulfur loading is 4.5 mg cm^(-2),and still maintains 5.1 mAh cm^(-2) after 100 cycles.This work provides a new perspective to extend the main group single-atom catalysts enabling high-performance Li–S batteries.

Interfacial solar evaporation holds immense potential for brine desalination with low carbon footprints and high energy utilization.Hydrogels,as a tunable material platform from the molecular level to the macroscopic scale,have been considered the most promising candidate for solar evaporation.However,the simultaneous achievement of high evaporation efficiency and satisfactory tolerance to salt ions in brine remains a challenging scientific bottleneck,restricting the widespread application.Herein,we report ionization engineering,which endows polymer chains of hydrogels with electronegativity for impeding salt ions and activating water molecules,fundamentally overcoming the hydrogel salt-impeded challenge and dramatically expediting water evaporating in brine.The sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate-modified carbon black is chosen as the solar absorbers.The hydrogel reaches a ground-breaking evaporation rate of 2.9 kg m−2 h−1 in 20 wt%brine with 95.6%efficiency under one sun irradiation,surpassing most of the reported literature.More notably,such a hydrogel-based evaporator enables extracting clean water from oversaturated salt solutions and maintains durability under different high-strength deformation or a 15-day continuous operation.Meantime,on the basis of the cation selectivity induced by the electronegativity,we first propose an all-day system that evaporates during the day and generates salinity-gradient electricity using waste-evaporated brine at night,anticipating pioneer a new opportunity for all-day resource-generating systems in fields of freshwater and electricity.

In this paper,we consider the B?hmer–Vandersloot(BV)model of loop quantum black holes obtained from the improved dynamics approach.We adopt the Saini–Singh gauge,in which it was found analytically that the BV spacetime is geodesically complete.We show that black/white hole horizons do not exist in this geodesically complete spacetime.Instead,there exists only an infinite number of transition surfaces,which always separate trapped regions from anti-trapped ones.Comments on the improved dynamics approach adopted in other models of loop quantum black holes are also given.
